How Do You Feel About Women in Combat?
Spouse Buzz ^ | May 9, 2012 | Staff

The topic of women in combat has always been a touchy one. Many feel that while women should be allowed in the military, they do not belong in jobs that place them on the front line. Others believe that women are just as capable as men and should be given the opportunity to take on any role within the military.

I own one of the knives below, it was a common issue military knife.

There have been times when this discussion came up, where I described the components of the knife and how to use it, and then handed it to the female I was talking to, I asked them if they thought that a female really belongs in a hole in the ground where men are using that as a common tool for fighting to the death. It sometimes brings a thoughtful look to their face.

He was/is correct.

Not Hardly

I served nine years 7 month and 11 days and did three cruises to Tonkin Gulf. I was in more danger of getting rolled in Long Beach (happened) than I was in the combat zone.

No way are most women physically capable of dragging/hoisting a male when it is needed the most.

Sad truth is most men can't measure up either, but I have never seen a woman that could. Not that there are not some, just I have never been around any.

I'm glad she was around when we needed her.

Maybe you should look a little closer to war fighting condition in the Civil War compared to the fighting force today. Standing up across from an enemy and letting them take pot shots at you is a matter of luck not skill.

Perhaps you've never heard about Joan of Arc.

Joan never heard of these either.

I read a couple of Joan of Arc articles today, it seems that aside from her messianic charisma, that her almost savant like talent was the use of Artillery.

I know that Artillery and Armor are different, but in the context of Joan of Arc, it was an interesting mention.

Many are called, Few are chosen......

The reality isA modern Company of Infantry and an armored unit could have won the Civil War in a week. Joan could have done her job in a day with the M1-A1.

I love our Republic and remember my oath and will uphold it until my last breath, and I don't have many of them left. But God and Country are welcome to them. God Bless the United States of America (minus the rats

Actually I agree. Combat is not for role for females although my experience with the two in our unit was not negative.

It might not make a practical difference, but your argument loses effectiveness when you're 100 years off.

It’s not about feelings, it’s about surviving. My wife and I are Army vets. My neighbors son is an Army vet. David is about 5’4” and my wife is 5’7”. I love my wife and I like David a lot. Who would I want in my foxhole(wink, wink) if I had to be carried off the battlefield? No question about it, the neighbors son. Who would I want in my foxhole if the moon was out and we were somewhere out in North Fort Hood with nobody shooting at us? My wife. And there you have two reasons why 99% of women have noi business in combat arms.

OK bring Molly on and see how she stands up to a modern Marine. We are physically a bigger people than we were even 50 years ago. Maybe you should have put up a picture of J Lo she managed to whip a couple dozen guys in her last action flic Salt, and no one doubts that, that 96 pound girl could do that, after all we could see it as it happened.

You completely missed the point despite the fact I had added a caveat just to be clear. My point was, and is, that even though you were indeed technically correct, that your point became lost when you incorrectly ascribed a Revolutionary War heroine to the Civil (wrong) War.
