Democrats lost the veterans vote by big margins in the last two presidential elections, but Obama campaign officials said Thursday they intend to reverse that trend by arguing that Mitt Romney would cut veterans benefits.
It really seems like Romney just doesnt care about our veterans community, said Rob Diamond, the Obama campaigns outreach director for veterans and military families, in a conference call with reporters.
He said the presumptive Republican nominee cut veterans services as governor of Massachusetts and supports a House GOP budget that would slash veterans funding by $11 billion.
If Mitt Romney wins this election, those are the kinds of values we can expect, Mr. Diamond said.
Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg said the candidate has a demonstrated record of strongly supporting our veterans.
The Obama campaigns weak and misleading attacks are a desperate attempt to distract from President Obamas failure to keep faith with those who have defended our freedom, she said. He is quadrupling health care premiums for military retirees, has quadrupled the number of veterans who have to wait months on end to receive their benefits, and created a jobs environment that has put a staggering 20.2 percent of our young returning veterans out of work.
The campaign for the veteran vote is one that Democrats usually lose.

I consider any military member who does not spit when they hear the word “Obama” to be unfit for service.
I assume the Dems will still “misplace” or destroy the ballots from active military.
And the Democrooks will lose that block of votes THIS time as well. They never seem to understand that we vets do NOT like kool-aid!
In 2008, we had a young captain in our squadron (he had a chemical engineering degree). Both his parents had been teachers. He told me he voted for Obama because he studied both McCain's and Obama's websites and thought Obama's economic plan was better.
He could not understand what difference it made if the president was not a natural born citizen. The appointment of Holder as Atty General thrilled him.
I wanted to remind him of the oath he took at his commissioning.
Ought to look him up and see if he still thinks that way.
They said that recruiters were not authorized to make such promises to us over all those years. Yet from the president, to the stinking lying congress, Pentagon, THEY ALL KNEW what recruiters were doing, encouraged it, fired and ruined recruiters careers if they did not sign up enough people, AND WENT ALONG WITH THE “FRAUD” that the recruiters were doing that they said they were not authorized to do. EVERYONE inside the stinking beltway are part of the fraud on military retirees and veterans. The cuts just keep on coming. The costs of what we were suppose to get for our service keep piling up. So what if Romney cut something, Bush 1, Klinton, Bush 2 AND ESPECIALLY the piece of garbage up there now have done nothing but cut.
That is the name of the game. Cut on our backs, there is nothing we can do about it.
Does anyone else remember the trial balloon that the Administration floated about having wounded veterans buy health insurance their own care? I do.
Beyond contemptuous as this man is set to cut pay and benefits from people at war and wanted to do so earlier. There is no way in hell even by force of gun to my head would I vote for this vicious America hating man.
Fat-o chance-o President Oh-no.
They come out with this crap right after they just raised the cost of Tri- Care??
Are they really that stupid?/ Evidently they are.
How about the cut in eligibility for combat pay?
The pentagon has made more mistakes in the two wars than most people want to talk about - see Surge in IraQ PROMOTED by Bush and hated by Pentagon. Then there are the back shooters that are part of both Iraq and Afgan forces killing troops that are good honest kids, trying to make their country a little better...while they want to take them back to thwe 14th century. A vote to get out after losing a friend from friendlies may not be such a hard decision.
PS I served overseas 66- 67 I know what shi**y duty looks and feels like.
Well he already has the black military and queer military votes sewn up.
Funny how none of the Bush bots make mention of the burn pits those service members were exposed to over in Iraq. Or about the body armor debacle at the beginning of the Iraq War. Or Rummy’s refusal to purchase MRAPs which directly led to the idiotic use of humvees and thousands of US casualties. Or how Dubya fought against the 9-11 GI Bill tooth and nail only being shamed into signing it by a Rat controlled Congress. The Rats ain’t pretty when it comes to the military but the GOP isn’t pristine either.
Obama is cool with out the military vote. He will get Ed Rendell out of whatever swamp he is living in to just dis-allow the votes like he did for Clinton.
They wont get the ballots or they will get “lost” or just plain ignored.
AFter all, the people who joined the military are too stupid to get into college and got stuck in Iraq, Right Mr Swiftboat Kerry?
As do I - after 24 years of service, Clinton signed my retirement, which will never hang on my wall. The trouble is that far too many military haven't a clue and fall into the gimmee-gimmee-gimmee category. Not enough for a tipping point or the Left wouldn't try so hard to disenfranchise military folks who have to vote absentee, but still too many for comfort.
“and fall into the gimmee-gimmee-gimmee category.”
By all means please expand on that description with sources. Those service members who have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan on multi-year tours away from their loved ones fall under that definition?
No intention to detract from our hero warriors. I've either worn the uniform or worked as a DOD civilian among those in uniform since 1974 (38 years and proud of it). I was just observing that the military is speckled with left-wingers, just as society is, jusyt not to the ame extent. The powers that be have turned it into a big social experiment and have endorsed homosexual and religious tolerance so folks can feel free to out themselves as homos or members of Islam. The militrary probably has about 30% the ratio of lefties that the public-at-large does. The real patriot/warriors do spit at an Obama or Clinton as CinC, but I personally know a handfull who openly state their support for Obama and leftist policies in general.
“The real patriot/warriors do spit at an Obama or Clinton as CinC”
And Dubya is exempt from said spit why exactly? Was he not the CoC when the Walter Reed scandal took place? What about the mishandling of the post Iraq reconstruction? There’s several other failings mentioned on a previous post - what gives? Or does the buck stop only with Rat Presidents?
Regardless of your fervent wishes, thankfully our military is a professional one and doesn’t debase itself or the uniform they wear by spitting on their commander in chief. If you’re a fan of partisan armies, try 1970’s Latin America. The rest of us will pass.
Might want to consider a name change if you can't figure out why Bush was not looked upon the same as a Clinton or Obama. It's also naive to believe that patriotic warriors will not have disdain for a pi$$-poor CinC - they're not unthinking zombies - they have to express due respect when in uniform, but that doesn't require them to drink the Kool-Aid that because one is CinC he deserves their actual respect. The military has known this for ages, hence the "respect the rank/judge the man adage I learned when I first enlisted. I see from your page that Bush is public enemy #1 one in your book and I hated his "compassionate conservatism" crap, but he was willing to go after our enemies and push for tax cuts and other things that actually had a positive impact. he did open the door for what we now have, and is responsible for a part of the blame, but he also put a bit of class back in the WH and expressed a true love and respect for our military. I remember the difference between when Carter hosed the hostage rescue and when Reagan dropped a few missives on Lybia. Bush fits somehwere in between the two. Despite the name, you are just as capable of being a tunnel-visioned hack as anyone else. One must wonder who "the rest of us" that you purport to speak for are...
Still waiting for an explanation for the Walter Reed scandal, the burn pits, the refusal to purchase MRAPs, the body armor debacle, the opposition to the 9-11 GI Bill, the mishandling of the Iraqi reconstruction ect ect. These are serious shortcoming that led to thousands of US casualties. And ALL were on Dubya’s watch.
They will disenfranchise our men and women again this election. Look for surprise troop movements and lost mail. Our guys need to start absentee voting as soon as it is possible, even if they are desk jockeys.
The gays are now in charge of the military. The brainwashing is in process.
One reason why he is determined to stuff the military full of faggots, lesbians and Affirmative Action types.
IMHO, veterans themselves are best qualified to comment.
Obama no doubt rationalizes that McCain got the military vote in 2008 because of his veteran status. I’ve heard that military officers are solidly Republican, while the rank-and-file are less so. But why would anyone in uniform support Obama now, given what we all know about him and given what his best-known military policy is?
Ping
The answer is obvious and I've already admitted to Bush's faults (much easier than to fessing up about one's own faults.
Tell me, if you're deep in the woods and a tree falls while you are cursing/blaming Bush, does that make you an Obama supporter?
“I’ve already admitted to Bush’s faults”
No you haven’t. All you’ve done is give a proverbial shrug of the shoulders along with some blather about him restoring “class” or some such nonsense. Let me get this straight, since he wore a tie in the Oval office we can excuse his administration’s failed polices on MRAPs? Thousands are soldiers are dead because of that faulty decision of his. That’s not a man of class or decency. Quite the opposite in fact.
“Tell me, if you’re deep in the woods and a tree falls while you are cursing/blaming Bush, does that make you an Obama supporter?”
That’s rich. It’s precisely because of Dubya’s big government for jesus policies (which many of us warned you bots about!) that Obama is in office.
He must not be very confident in his role as “Commander-in-Chief” if he feels the need to “woo” the military. You don’t win them over by turning them into the rainbow brigade and raising the gay pride flag in a war zone.
