--a tree-hugger gets caught---
Brian Brademeyer is charged with painting over markings to trick Forest Service crews into cutting down trees.
Black Hills environmentalist Brian Brademeyer has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of illegally marking trees to be cut in a U.S. Forest Service timber sale.
Brademeyer agreed prior to a proceeding scheduled for Thursday in federal court to pay a $475 fine, plus a $25 processing fee. The maximum penalty for the charge, a federal petty offense, was $5,000 and six months in jail.
Contacted by email Friday, Brademeyer confirmed that he was paying the $500 but did not provide further comment.
Travis Lunders, a regional special agent for the U.S. Forest Service who investigated the case, said Friday that Brademeyers plea and the imposed fine were a satisfactory conclusion to the case.
A spokesman for the logging industry in the Black Hills didnt necessarily agree. Tom Troxel, director of the Black Hills Forest Resource Association in Rapid City, said a logging company would almost certainly face harsher penalties if it were caught illegally marking trees in a timber sale.

Why would a tree hugger illegally mark trees to be cut down?
A fine plus 3x the value of the tree for cutting, or causing to be cut, a tree you don't own. And the owner is offered much leeway in determining the value.
Got it, thanks. Diabolical bastards.
-timber project there. Critics said Brademeyers actions in marking the trees for cutting near his home were hypocritical, since he had challenged previous Forest Service timber projects elsewhere.

LOL That's priceless!
LOL That's priceless!
Uhm, the guy created multiple crimes and all he got was a slap on the wrist?
Doesn’t make much sense, they usually mark trees that are to be cut down, not the other way around.

“Doesn’t make much sense, they usually mark trees that are to be cut down, not the other way around.”
It depends on the type of cut you are doing. If the trees are thick and you are taking out a lot of them, it’s a lot easier to do a leave tree mark, i.e. cut everything except what’s marked.
After reading the article this appears to be a take tree cut. He was probably either, as someone posted above, trying to get the loggers in trouble, or trying to reduce the fire hazard near his house.
Absolutely. Only a liberal mind could justify doing what they advocate against. Too bad cutting off one’s nose to spite the face is only an expression; It’d be easier to spot libs from a distance.
Some people need to feel they have a ‘purpose’ in life.
Some more then others.
When a screw gets loose, all kinds of strange things happen.
I wonder what they use for shelter. Not wood, surely.
What do they wipe their butts with. Not toilet paper, surely.
Also to make Forrest Service personnel look incompetent or corrupt, making the Forrest Service vulnerable to Environazi suits, a favorite method of control.
I had no idea these people existed! Wow, a wasted mind is a terrible thing to watch!
