Skip to comments.Former Israeli PM: Jerusalem must be partitioned

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday urged Israeli leaders to relinquish the idea of a unified Jerusalem if they truly want peace, contending in a pair of interviews that years of government neglect have kept the Jewish and Arab sectors irreparably divided.
The comments, made as Israel marked the 45th anniversary of capturing east Jerusalem, were nearly unprecedented for a mainstream Israeli leader and put Olmert at odds with his successor, Benjamin Netanyahu. Celebrating Israel's control of Jerusalem, Netanyahu declared his government was committed to keeping the entire city Israel's undivided capital.
"No Israeli government since 1967 has done even a smidgen of what was needed in order to unify the city in practical terms. That is a tragedy that is going to lead us, for want of another choice, to making inevitable political concessions," Olmert told the Maariv daily.
Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and immediately annexed the area, home to sensitive Jewish, Christian and Muslim holy sites as well as a large Arab population. The Palestinians hope to make east Jerusalem the capital of an independent state including the neighboring West Bank and Gaza Strip.

I agree with you about Joel Ch 3. Whats in view here is Israel and Judah being restored at the end of the age, “in those days and at that time’
Joel 3:1, he returns Judah and Jerusalem. This happened on June 7th, 1967.
God is using the Jubilee process to restore Israel and the world. This is not for the church, the church is spirit and waiting for the Bridegroom.
To complete the restoration he then needs three things to meet the conditions of Leviticus Ch 25 and Daniel Ch 9 to declare the Jubilee if he so chooses.
1. Jerusalem, and Judea restored, when they ‘come into the land that I shall give you’
2. He needs 17,640 days (49 x 360 days)
3. He needs a Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. And then if he so chooses can declare the Jubilee himself (see Jeremiah Ch 34:17). He knows how to count one, we don’t.
At some point after the restoration of Jerusalem, the nations cast lots for my people Joel 3:3 (like Purim, when the Persians voted to destroy Israel, they meant it for evil, God meant if for good) the nations will vote in some manner to part the land. Like they almost did last August in the UN. Then he will bring all nations to the valley of decision.
The rest of Joel Ch 3 reads like the book of Revelation.
When they divide the land, they are working to undue the punitive measures he has now resolved after the Babylonian captivity by 70 years and then another 2520 years to the very day in 1967.
“Old Merde” is a putz, and most in Israel know he is a putz.
Israel needs to reclaim ALL the land God has given him. Throw out the ferals in the West Bank and the Gaza strip.
The guy that said that a vote on him taking power because Sharon after his brain surgery in his coma was not really permanently incapacitated, but was “temporarily incapacitated in a permanent sort of way” so the laws on a vote did not apply.
The guy that voted against his party so much he quit the party and started his own, and handed out ministry posts like party favors to all that would bow to his illegal position. The guy that was going to prison for illegal land deals till he made deals with...
That guy, we should listen to him? Why? Because of his wisdom, his honor or his word?
The prey should be careful not to allow the clueless or cowards among them to make the rules for survival.
"Peace in our time" redux?
Israel cannot give away what God has granted to them. Further, any attempt to buy peace with land will only end in blood being shed on both sides.
Israel should never compromise when it comes to dealing with rabid dogs.
Yes. What a crazy old fool. Or worse, maybe he’s “channelling” Jimmy Carter? Gawd, can Israel afford its very own kosher Carter!? As if they don’t already have enough enemies to contend with?
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
Doubt anyone cares what Ohlmert thinks. It's not like Israel hasn't offered to partition Jerusalem. Like Barak, the paletinians spit that offer back into Ohlmert's face
Give the Palis the Holyland hotel. It has the best building permits money can buy.
