Robert Kennedy Jr insists he is not responsible for wife Mary’s suicide
Telegraph (UK) ^ | 6:26PM BST 20 May 2012 | By Rosa Prince, New York

Delivering a eulogy to his estranged wife Mary, Mr Kennedy, the son of the assassinated attorney-general Robert F Kennedy and nephew of President John F Kennedy, spoke of her troubled life and admitted that she resented him for asking her to give up her career to have children.

Mary Richardson Kennedy’s family went to court on Friday to try to stop her being interred in a Kennedy family plot in Centerville, Massachusetts.

But the burial went ahead following a funeral service at St Patrick’s Church in Bedford, New York, attended by stars including the actors Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Glenn Close, Susan Sarandon and Larry David, and the tennis champion John McEnroe.

Representatives from the Kennedy clan included Ethel Kennedy, Mr Kennedy’s mother and RFK’s widow, Caroline Kennedy, President Kennedy’s daughter, and Maria Shriver, another cousin, who is married but separated from Arnold Schwarzenegger, the actor turned California governor.

In his tearful eulogy, twice-married Mr Kennedy told mourners how his troubled wife had telephoned him the day before she was found hanging from a barn in the home they once shared in upstate New York.

He said: “The day before she died, she called me and said, 'You know me better than anyone in the world’. She said, 'I was such a good girl’. I said, 'I know you are and you still are’. She really fought so hard. She had these demons, and she didn’t deserve it. I know I did everything I could to help her.”

Mrs Kennedy’s friends have suggested that she was distraught at the separation from her husband, who filed for divorce in 2010 and is now in a relationship with Cheryl Hines, the star of the television show Curb Your Enthusiasm, but had not completed the process.

exactly what I’m thinking.

Just because you “can” do something, doesn’t mean you should.

If Mary really threatened suicide as often as reports say - she should’ve had her affairs in order to avoid this spectacle.

If he had any sense, he would shown up and blended into the background without saying a word during the service.
Her family should have been the ones to honor her.

Unbelievable.

Don’t know anything about fees or tribunals. I’m telling you what happened. My dad gave the monsignor the $$ and he the annulment flis through the approval process. Don’t know what the monsignor did with it but if my dad doesn’t give him the $$, he wouldn’t of gotten the annulment at St. Monica’s then he would have tried something else.

Not a story. Not my opinion. It’s fact.

Jack was the pick of the litter, such as he was. A horrifying family, and one to keep one’s daughters away from.

Scott Brown has been a great disappointment to many, but I do appreciate his putting “the Kennedy seat” in the junk heap of failed concepts.

Oh really? And just what does make a marriage valid in the eyes of the Catholic Church?

Both were Catholics.

Married by a priest in the presence of family, friends, and God.

Children baptised and raised as Catholics, regular church attendants, tithing weekly.

Faithful to each other - ah, wait. There’s the hitch... The one who paid for the annullment was the one who cheated and left the family, and wanted to marry the new “love” (who, BTW, was also the cheat and left the spouse) in the Church.

The wedding can’t happen until the annullment is granted.

The annullment doesn’t happen until the Church gets the money. From each one.

Her family would lose in court every single time. The day she married this POS her famly basically lost the role of next of kin, and with it the right to make life/death decisions on her behalf. Remember Terry Schiavo? Since the divorce was never finalized, it is the legal spouse and s/he alone who makes those decisions.

Let this be a lesson to everyone, especially those going thru a divorce: make a will and be very specific about who decides about your end of life decisions and disposition of your remains after your death.

It MAY be that after Robert Jr. passes, one of his/Mary’s children could seek to have his/her mother’s body exhumed and reburied in her own family’s plot.

Either I have a more active imagination than you or I'm much nastier than you.I,her parent/sibling,can think of more than enough things to bring up inside..and outside...a courtroom that could make this family of murderers, heroin addicts, rapist and child molesters so fed up with the whole thing that they'd personally drop her casket on the front lawn of one of her relatives.

Na, I think you’re just less cynical. You’re talking about a PR campaign? Against the Kennedys? As if they don’t OWN the MSM? There are dozens of highly placed people in the MSM who either are Kennedy worshipers or were on one of their payrolls. Even the wealthiest of families know better than to take them on.

The Richardson family took Jr. to court but legally really didn’t have a leg to stand on. And, you are forgetting, Jr. has full and total custody now of their minor children. He can refuse visitation rights to any and all members of Mary’s family if he chooses.

Mary’s family is going to have to sit tight for a few years, let the dust settle, and HOPE that one of her now-minor children will want to see their mother buried in her own family’s plot after their father passes and is buried with his third/fourth/fifth wife. Her parents might not live to see that day.

Less cynical? I'm a Massachusetts conservative.Such creatures cannot survive without cynicism literally running through their veins!

You’re talking about a PR campaign?

PR *and* legal...legal as in "sworn depositions" (on film)

Against the Kennedys? As if they don’t OWN the MSM?

Oh,they own some of the media but not *all* of it.Not even close to all of it,in fact.

You don’t get annulments at parishes.

Proper form and consent.

“Both were Catholics.”

Irrelevant.

“Married by a priest in the presence of family, friends, and God.”

May effect form, may not.

“Children baptised and raised as Catholics, regular church attendants, tithing weekly.”

COMPLETELY irrelevant.

“Faithful to each other - ah, wait. There’s the hitch... The one who paid for the annullment was the one who cheated and left the family, and wanted to marry the new “love” (who, BTW, was also the cheat and left the spouse) in the Church.”

COMPLETELY irrelevant unless it effected form or consent.

“The wedding can’t happen until the annullment is granted.”

COMPLETELY irrelevant unless it effected form or consent.

“The annullment doesn’t happen until the Church gets the money. From each one.”

False.

Don’t need one. I do know people who got them for free. I worked down the hall from a Tribunal, and I have referred people to Tribunals who could not possibly pay a dime. Not having a cent, does nothing to impede the process.

Go ahead and tell your brother. If your brother is intelligent and honest, and that apparently is not a family wide virtue in your case, he’ll tell you he paid $1000 in fees. If he was poverty stricken, he wouldn’t have to pay a dime. I know a woman with 8 children who will not have to pay a single penny for her entire annulment process because she doesn’t have any money to speak of. Another friend of mine, who had six kids, and was destitute, also paid NOTHING, NOT A DIME. I know tribunal members in both cases. I know that is the normal process for those who have no money.

So you say. I have no reason to believe you.

” and my brother is not penniless.”

Then he should pay the fees.

“I don’t give a crap who you know that got a freebie, I am telling you that annulments are not cheap.”

Most annulment fees are. Most diocese only charge a processing fee of a few hundred dollars. Some diocese list these costs on their websites by the way. That’s cheap considering every diocese in the world losses money in terms of costs with annulments.

“Does the Church give charity cases a breakl? According to you they do. I wouldn’t know since I and my brother work for a living.”

So do some people who are dirt poor. And yes, the Church charges them nothing.

Diocese of Arlington website:

“The processing of a formal case generally generates costs of approximately $1200. It is expected that the person seeking an annulment will assist the Tribunal in partially meeting its administrative costs through a fee of $750. The fee is usually paid in installments during the process, but other arrangements can be made. One’s inability to pay, however, does not affect the acceptance or final decision; the fee can be waived or reduced as need be.”

Diocese of LaCrosse, Wisconsin:

“The standard fee for processing a formal marriage case is $400, which is less than half of what it costs the Diocese of La Crosse to process a case. The fee is partial reimbursement for the cost of paying salaries and operating the office. The average case requires 24 to 40 hours of our time. We ask that one fourth of the fee be paid at the time of your interview and that the fee be paid in full before the case if finalized. (If you are experiencing financial difficulties, the fee can be reduced and/or arrangements can be made to pay it in small monthly payments as necessary. No one is ever denied the right to petition for a possible declaration of nullity based on an inability to pay.)”
