Skip to comments. The Catholic Church has declared war on Obamacare. This could spell the end of Obama

On Monday, 43 Catholic institutions filed lawsuits against the White House in protest at its contraception mandate. The culture war just got hotter, and we just moved a few steps closer to Obamas eventual defeat.
The election experts will continue to insist that mandating Catholic employers to provide contraception in their workers insurance plans is an overall win for the Prez. After all, even Roman Catholics repeatedly tell pollsters that they see nothing wrong with contraception. The world has moved on from the 1950s when most peoples idea of contraception was a cold shower and a rosary, and the conservative Catholic opposition to the mandate is hopelessly marginal. Even a few nuns have reconciled themselves to it.
But life is more complicated than a snapshot poll can ever show. The pollsters make three mistakes. First, they presume that people are telling the truth. The fact that voters regularly say that they back gay marriage yet always vote it down in popular referenda, proves that many dont like owning up to their own prejudices over the telephone. Second, while the headline figures in these polls show majority support for the equal availability of contraception, other findings within the same reports sometimes articulate unease about compelling Catholic organisations to provide it (in this poll, Catholics voice support for exemptions for religious institutions). Theres an obvious difference between personally thinking contraception is okay but not wanting to see others forced to share your view. No one would mandate a kosher kitchen to serve up pork, no matter how good it might taste.

THE END IS NEAR. . . . . .
I see clouds are forming in the sky above Obama
I see clouds are forming in the sky above Obama
Is it a prejudice or a principle?
I get real tired of people trying to shame me in to accepting their flawed arguments.
Sounds to me like the beginnings of a possible Christian Militia?
The Obamacare Crusades?
Obamacare must fall like the Berlin Wall, if allowed to be built it will split America.
Obama is simply “one and done”.
In other words, start with cleaning out one own’s home FIRST.
I recall this sentence from our Bishop’s message read to us on the first Sunday after the mandate came down: “We will not comply.”
The RCC apparently has grown soft since those days.
Every Christian should personally “declare war” on Obamacare and every other manifestation of Satanic evil. We are at risk of having Christianity and orthodox Judaism virtually outlawed and driven underground in the US and western Europe.
Except for instances such as the subject of this thread. My diocese, my church, is taking Obamacare on in court. Is yours?
I’d like to see liberals pull their BS on Muslims “You must give away free condoms in your Mosques and allow gay marriage” They know they would have their heads cut off before they could open their yaps a seond time.
“Theres an obvious difference between personally thinking contraception is okay but not wanting to see others forced to share your view.”
That’s the key point. We’re past having children, but we used contraception. I’m not so sure, now, that that was the right decision, but personal beliefs about contraception are largely irrelevant to the more important issue. That is, do I have the right to force other people to violate their religious objections to contraceptive use?
Unfortunately, some people used religious arguments during the civil rights era to support discrimination. As a result, the government, rightly or wrongly, was given the power to violate religious beliefs under certain circumstances. For example, you cannot refuse to rent to a black person even if your religion says black people aren’t supposed to mix with whites. In other words, religious liberty is not absolute.
Nevertheless, I think the president has went too far here. This isn’t about denying contraception to those who want to purchase it. This is about telling religious organizations they must indirectly provide free contraceptives against their beliefs.
It’s also about private property rights, because the government is telling insurance companies they must give away property in order to conduct business. That’s a far cry more authoritarian than mandating that contraception is covered, i.e. regulating commerce.
And my state is willing to do EVERYTHING in it's power to stop Obamacare.
“Its also about private property rights, because the government is telling insurance companies they must give away property in order to conduct business.”
What the Supreme Court seems to have a problem with is that the government is telling every citizen that they need to give up private property (money) to buy something from the government that they may not want or need.
Lets hope the Court follows the law and we won’t have to worry about Obama Care.
“how about the RCC showing some REAL spiritual conviction and start EXCOMMUNICATING Obamas Catholic pro-abortion supporters!!!”
ObamaCare wouldn’t have passed, and Obama wouldn’t have been elected, without the complicity of the Catholic hierarchy in the US. Catholics should reduce their donations by whatever additional costs they’ve incurred because of the Kenyan Pirate. While it is nice to see the Church go to war over ObamaCare, bear in mind that when it was just going to be US paying for it (including non-religious-themed businesses owned by Catholics) there wasn’t much noise from our bishops; if anything, they made it sound like a nice Christian ideal.
If they can make enough noise about the issue, Obama will suffer some. That is good. I object to paying for somebody else to fool around with sex. If they want to, let them pay for it. Do not make me pay for it.
Obamacare must fall like the Berlin Wall, if allowed to be built it will split America. If Romney wins the election, I see Sarah Palin making a speech in which she challenges him to action, saying: "Mr. Romney, tear down that wall!"
Brain dead supporters cannot/will not see what he has done to this country.
Blacks and Hispanics would continue to support him if he lined some up on the White House lawn every day and shot them.
Never before in history has there been such blind adoration.
The MSM continues to lie for him and cover up for him.
There will be massive voter fraud and illegal contributions in this election just as there was in 2008.
If anyone thinks they will give up the commie coup they pulled off without an epic battle, they are sadly mistaken.
This will be the dirtiest, hardest fought election in history.
But I do sense people are starting to wake up, as many, many, talkradio show hosts are pointing out.
Obama is still “one and done”.
The liberal and fascist candy demons are about to pilfer and eat everything on their paths, like hungry jungle ants and crawling night cockroaches, all in the name of love and against “hate crime”, only progressist because they think they have a modern program to make it sustainable and humanly possible... the horror.
They remind me of the pacific island cannibals described by Jack London in his books about Jerry of Islands, the fox terrier’s life amongst them.
“If anyone thinks they will give up the commie coup they pulled off without an epic battle, they are sadly mistaken.”
Not to mention the hardcore fourty per-cent in the electorate who will be cheering for Obama to win in a landslide.
He is the best excuse for party time, and these emotional groups think this is the be all end all of all things in life.
Like I said in my earlier post, when a hurricane would go through an island in the Pacific in Jack London’s time, everyone would cheer because all the dead people and animals where going to be used for a feast and be eaten.
Party party party... they do not care what it comes from, only that it tastes good.
Please remove the one (1) paragraph from your 2,000 page health care bill that requires us to provide contraception coverage in our schools, hospitals, and other Catholic organizations.
Once this is done, we can get back on board with you in supporting unlimited immigration, wealth redistribution, and socialist economics.
the Catholic Church
In a nostalgic mood, I watched some Youtube videos of Election Night in 1980 last night, remembering the greatness of this nation as it arose once again to toss aside a disastrous administration and begin the process of rebuilding itself.
It was sad to think we`re not that country anymore.
-—The world has moved on from the 1950s when most peoples idea of contraception was a cold shower and a rosary,-—
I prefer to think of the pre-Pill era as a time when parents were less concerned about saving $100k to send junior to binge drinking U, and more saw children as blessings.
But, I guess since someone decided that everything new is better than everything old, we must be better off.
Have confidence, liberalism is in the dying process.
-—In other words, start with cleaning out one owns home FIRST.-—
Is your house in order?
My point is that this isn’t an either/or, but a both/and. The Church should be doing both. There’s no point in Church organizations discontinuing these lawsuits while waiting for individual bishops to do their duty in excommunicating obstinate, public heretics.
Remember that individual bishops are responsible for exercising the discipline of excommunication. And bishops aren’t perfect. But there is a chain of command.
Different Catholic groups are launching these lawsuits.
“prejudice” against evil
I remember being shocked by the (Jan. 2010) letter of SUPPORT for Obamacare, sent by the USCCB’s. Their desire to have “undocumented persons” provided easy, affordable access to healthcare seemed to overshadow everything else about the bill.
As a Catholic business owner I note that you are quite correct.
“A nation that kills its own children is a nation without hope.”
Blessed John Paul II
This is the crux of the matter. For years racists added to the Torah by attributing to G-d a law mandating Black inferiority and segregation. Adding to the Torah is always a bad idea (and expressly forbidden), and we see in this case the result: G-d portrayed as a big racist meanie and human "morality" and "ethics" being superior to, and overruling, G-d's morality and ethics. (According to a midrash, Eve added to G-d's command when she told the Serpent that G-d had forbidden touching the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil under pain of death. The Serpent pushed Eve into the tree and when she didn't die, argued that just as touching the tree was not fatal, neither would eating its fruit be.)
Ever since the civil rights movement's clash with Ku-Klux preachers the government has believed it has the duty to liberate people from the Big Meanie in the Sky. This issue needs to be addressed in order for people to learn to accept G-d as the source of all authority, all ethics, and all morality.
Well, you’re right. The battle for private property and religious rights was fought and lost to government during the civil rights era. Me? I’d say let someone refuse to do business with me because of my race. I’d just take my business elsewhere, but that’s not how most people would react. They want government to step in and force people to treat everyone equally without regard to race, gender, religion, and, coming soon, sexual orientation.
Everyone SHOULD behave that way, of course, but in a truly free country even bigots should be free to do what they want with their own property. Where in the world does the government get off thinking it has the right to force Catholics to violate their religious beliefs on their own, not public, property? Again, already fought and lost...
“I remember being shocked by the (Jan. 2010) letter of SUPPORT for Obamacare, sent by the USCCBs.”
That’s right; they were very willing with OUR money, but apparently not with their own.
“As a Catholic business owner I note that you are quite correct.”
For your sake I hope the whole thing is tossed; your shepherd doesn’t seem concerned about Catholics in your position.
Wrong... Obama declared war on the Catholic Church and they are fighting back (unlike Republicans)!
I'm not quite sure how you know the thoughts of my Bishop. I do however. I have spoken to him.
“I have spoken to him.”
Had he spoken for you during the birth of ObamaCare?
Oh yeah, he is a conservative caught up in a temporary minority.
