Volusia County School officials stand by a Deltona High School nurse's decision to refuse a student his inhaler during an asthma attack, citing a lack of a parent's signature on a medical release form.

"It's like something out of a horror film. The person just sits there and watches you die," said Michael Rudi, 17. "She sat there, looked at me and she did nothing."

He said the school dean found his inhaler during a search of his locker last Friday. The inhaler was still in its original packaging -- complete with his name and directions for its use; however, the school took it away because his mother hadn't signed the proper form for him to have it.

Sounds like criminal charges need to be filed along with a civil suit to try and teach common sense to the school system and the nurse (probably impossible).

I was a high teacher for three years. One of my favorite students did not come to school one day. She die in her sleep form asthma. It was my hardest day at school. That nurse needs to be fired. Schools are very good at having many rules that never seem to get to the parents.

More examples of why America is going to Hell in a hand-basket.
My daughter was a childhood asthmatic (1980s)
Fortunately, she outgrew it.

This is one case where I would sue the H of of them.

The nurse, like the one shown above, is clearly a sadist and I should think the medical professions ought to eschew sadists.

But just wait until the Obamacare Death Panels are seated and the typical Leftist government bureaucrat, who are sadists by indoctrination, has the ultimate say on whether you live or die:

“We are sorry Ms Smith, but these forms are outdated so you will have to reapply for your heart medication.
“How long will that take?”
“ohhh, I would say six to eight months.”
“But I'm having a heart attack right now!”
“Then I suggest you fill out form 13253B and then mail it to the Emergency and Trauma Control Commission in order to receive your 911 access authorization...”
“Next!”

and yet... if this was a girl who wanted an abortion you can be sure that they would be speeding her to the nearest abortion provider without the parents consent.

Sick.

I came across a story just yesterday of a family losing their 5 YO daughter to an asthma attack.

I’m glad this young man is okay. Can’t imagine the grief of losing a child.

It may be the way the article is written, but it sounds like the nurse locked the student in her office when he had his asthma attack and just watched him through the window in the door. That almost sounds like depraved indifference or an attempt to murder him.

Stupid parents....couldn’t sign the dang form? That is one thing that my wife (especially) does is go through all backpacks to ensure all paperwork is looked at and all forms signed as required. Parents are so damn lazy.

This is Volusia County they’re talking about, one of the worst in Florida, this is where former Sheriff Bob Vogel pissed on the Constitution day in and day out, by setting up roadblocks on I-95 and seizing cash from motorists who couldn’t adequately explain where the cash came from and what they intended to do with it.

As for this so-called ‘nurse’?

That beeotch needs to be fired, but of course won’t be.

I believe that once again common sense is bereft at the schools. But in severe case of self-honesty I believe that the real culprit for that lack of common sense can be laid at the feet of the Trial-lawyers. Their willingness to sue on behalf of anyone regardless of the commonsensical nature of the case has lead us down this dark and dangerous path where thinking is bad and following the rules blindly is good.

There is something seriously sick in American society these days, and it's getting worse. We Americans are becoming like the Vogon bureaucrats in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. For those not familiar with the Vogons, they have meticulous laws for every situation and refuse to deviate from them. Even though the Vogons themselves are not evil, they are de facto a very evil society where a Vogon would stand by and let his mom die if the correct medical forms aren't filled out in advance...in triplicate.

One of the worst phrases in modern American culture: “There oughta be a law!”

If I were there, I'd advise the nurse to go down to the lunchroom and get a handful of lard ... then rub it all over the inhaler ... cause that would make things a lot easier for her when somebody shoves that thing up her a$$!
