Once upon a time, kids used to grow out of these things—pass through a tomboy phase and then eventually through preteen girlhood and into womanhood.
What changed?
For some reason the tomboy is more socially acceptable than the male counterpart, the little fellow who likes to play with household items and cooking etc. (even I’d draw the line at makeup and girls’ dresses, however).
People started obsessing over things instead of just letting a phase run its course or nipping it in the bud.
There was a time when the parents ruled the roost, not the children.
