The First Amendment protects your right to speak your mind, but does that include the right to ask strangers for money? A group of panhandlers in Chicago say that it does.
Eight panhandlers filed a federal suit seeking class action status against the City of Chicago, alleging that police routinely make them move from a high-end section of Michigan Avenue.

It is reasonable for police to move, arrest, block and punish them with court orders.
I thought the Chicago Panhandlers were an MLS soccer team...
I’m so very sick of dealing with scamhandlers.
Actually they are the Chicago Cubs who have been swindling patrons out of money for over 100 years promising that if they came they would see professional baseball. "Wait 'til next year". Go Go Sox!
Can’t remember the movie, but probably an Eastwood western, where a panhandler was asking for handouts. No legs and scooted himself around on a wheeled board.
Someone like that, I would probably give money to. I have been asked by some to give them money for food and I offered to take them down to the local diner and they got PO’d, so I knew it wasn’t about food.
I stopped one time for a man that said he would work for food. Had a big sign! I picked him up (he was outside the only big mall in town). When I had work for him he was flabbergasted! The sign meant nothing. He just wanted a handout, probably a drink.
A little discernment is necessary. As long as they are not bothering me, I really don’t care. If you are not man or woman enough to discern between the truth and fiction, you will probably be scammed by a bigger fraud than a panhandler.
Really don’t see the necessity of the police being involved in such trivial manners. Too many real criminals out there committing real crimes.
What? Do you think that the Hollywood types need to be protected against panhandlers when idiots like Baldwin spew their hypocrisy and slime? Let these idiots defend themselves. Panhandlers should line up in their neighborhoods to get a dime off these moral crusaders for economic justice.
That would be a hoot!
