Chinese Pet Treats Linked to 900 Dog Deaths, Illnesses
ABC The Blotter ^ | May 23, 2012 | CINDY GALLI

Just six months after issuing its latest warning about chicken jerky dog treats made in China, the Food and Drug Administration confirms it has logged more than 900 complaints from pet owners who say their dogs either were sickened or died after eating the treats.

The number of complaints has nearly doubled since the story was first reported by ABC News in March. The FDA says its investigation is ongoing and that it continues to test samples of the popular treats, which dog owners across the country say have caused kidney failure in their pets, resulting in severe illness or death.

Consumers have largely blamed two brands for the reported illnesses. Waggin' Train and Canyon Creek Ranch, both produced by Nestle Purina and made in China

You should see pictures of the stuff that’s wound up in food over there. Nuts (metal kind) screws, bolts, pieces of metal plus dead insect and animal parts. Why anyone would buy any foodstuffs from China is beyond me.

It’s difficult to find stuff that isn’t made in China. And often labels only say who the US distributor is. You have to search for the manufacturer.

I put a good portion of the blame on Nestle Purina. How could they be buying stuff from China, where known problems have arisen many times previous, and not be regularly testing that product? China has virtually no quality controls in place, but Purina surely does! It’s a huge company, with it’s own labs. No excuse! Yeah, made in China, but sold worldwide by Purina.
I’m gonna go read my catz petfood bag right now! It’s Purina.

Two years ago I was feeding my cats dry Purina Cat Chow. I opened a new bag and gave it to all the cats, outdoors too. My 3 indoor cats vomited immediately. A woodchuck ate the bowl outside and we found it dead the next day. I don’t buy it anymore.

It is time to start uncovering all of the Chinese crap coming into the country!
Substandard to no standard electronics and even bolts (which I have experience with).
Bought some *grade 8* bolts from the local hardware store, would twist off and snap well before the minimum torque, very dangerous on heavy equipment.
Found out that they were made in China.
There electronic capacitors (Chinese) that you can buy locally are pure crap.

Where the hell is congress............I know, never mind.

We’ve been feeding our 2 cats Purina Friskies Sea Food Sensations since that flavor came out or we got the cats - can’t remember which came first. The oldest is 10 and they both seem to like it.

The dogs do also when they can grab a bit or two from the cats.

The dogs eat Kibbles & Bits.

I don’t feed my dog anything made in China. I feel only slightly more confident buying treats from Colombia, Brazil or Thailand.
