Detroit street lights may be going dark soon. At least half of them will no longer shine as the city shrinks. The city has 88,000 streetlights and about 40 percent of those are broken, and the city cannot afford to fix them.
Mayor Dave Bing developed a plan to repair and reduce the street lights in Detroit. Unfortunately, the city is facing reduced population, which has reduced its budget for services like street lights.
Under the new plan, the city would only have 46,000, and ultimately they would save $10 million a year once the changes were made. Of course, not everybody is happy about the changes because some areas will literally be left in the dark.
The sad thing is that things have to change. The city cannot afford to continue maintenance and street lights in areas where very few people live. It is hard, but perhaps they can help shrink the city to a more managable area. The big problem is that criminals can operate easier in the dark.

Oh nonsense - they couldn’t STOP the city from shrinking unless all of the Dems & other liberal trash were strung up on those 40,000 poles and hanged.
Detroit is a perfect example of what happens under 100% Democratic control for 42 years.
I agree.....have you ever seen they city council meetings on you tube? Oh my gosh..and these people are running the city....they’re completely whacked and no wonder nothing goes further than their own purses.

I listened in on a couple of their townhall meetings....what’s really pathetic is the people believe Quote: “The Governemnt has a resposibility to make sure every American has a job”.....and yet a couple news agency went to the local welfare office and asked them why they weren’t working...one guy said he didn’t want a job but if comeone would give him a career he ‘d consider that.
...Another said he was there to get whatever he could...several mentioned they were there for Obama “stuff”. What ever he wants to give them.
Awful that the people don’t get that it’s our money paying for them..not Obama. They even mention they’ll be voting for him......and you can be certain they will too!

I saw a youtube the other night of the last gal living on some block in Detroit (older white gal). She said she was waiting for a unit in some cheap housing to open up, she was wait-listed for 6 months. Bars on the inside and outside of her home. Across the street is the home where she grew up - all busted up and vacant. “And there is the tree that we had a rope swing...”
Even in the daylight with a new’s crew she was fearful pointing out the burnt-out, busted down homes from the garbage strewn suburban street. (And not another soul around).
But she did have a street lamp on, and near her house.
Actually Bobby the ones I saw interviewed were men not woman...there to get their ‘take’, and they even have a nickname for it, though I can’t remember it. Basically they see Obama as shoveling it out to them. One guy was asked why tax payers should pay for him when he’s more than fit to work....he said basically it’s what’s owed him for the generation of slaves who were brought here.
The bottom line is they just don’t want to work...and why should they, they’ve learned well how to game the system for anything they want.
But I will say...you cut out the welfare from these people and they will be in the streets...I have no doubt about that..and destructively so.

Well then those who need light should go to Home Depot and arange for outside lighting.....they know their city area is dangerous...otherwise time to move.
I make no apologies for saying they have got what they asked for....black or white or yellow makes no difference...they wanted a liberal/socialist caretaker city they got it.
It would not surprise me if her streetlight is on the list to be turned off.
America will choke on its own ignorance.
