Climate change deniers not stupid, just trying to fit in, says study ( BARF ALERT!)

A recent Yale University study funded by the National Science Foundation found that those with opposing views on climate change don’t hold those views because of insufficient scientific understanding, but because of “opposing sets of cultural values.”

To be specific, people have a rather solid foundation in science and mathematics, but they use scientific evidence to fit their cultural group’s values. In other words, global warming deniers aren’t stupid, they just want to fit in.

“In effect, ordinary members of the public credit or dismiss scientific information on disputed issues based on whether the information strengthens or weakens their ties to others who share their values,” said Dan Kahan, Elizabeth K. Dollard Professor of Law and Professor of Psychology at Yale Law School. ”At least among ordinary members of the public, individuals with higher science comprehension are even better at fitting the evidence to their group commitments.”

“More information can help solve the climate change conflict,” Kahan said, “but that information has to do more than communicate the scientific evidence. It also has to create a climate of deliberations in which no group perceives that accepting any piece of evidence is akin to betrayal of their cultural group.”

So, the next time you find yourself in the company of a global warming denier or skeptic, just remember they’re under a lot of pressure, okay?

The Yale study was published yesterday in the journal Nature.

A recent Red Dog University study found that those with views believing in climate change don’t hold those views because of insufficient scientific understanding, but because of “opposing sets of cultural values.”

The cultural values in question largely result from being educated stupid and self absorbution.

Yup, the climate changes all the time. Like it did when the Vikings had to get the heck out of Greenland. Note the name Greenland.

I want them to answer this. The next ice age will come, what do they intend to do to stop it? All the hot air coming out of Al Gores ass wouldnt stop it.

The enviro-whacko’s premise their entire argument on the premise “the climate’s changing so it must be our fault”. But if you listen closely, they aren’t really blaming humans as much as they’re blaming capitalism-that’s their real agenda.

It only takes four edits to change the article completely.

Some cultures rely on superstition and others rely on verifiable evidence.

Not really. It’s true for many controversial issues; the Yale researchers were just unable to step outside their cultural values to see the big picture. The cultural values embraced by the opposing sides are more important than the data. In the global warming debate, believers embrace “right feeling” and deniers embrace scientific rigor.

The money line. Dollars to donuts they set out trying to show skeptics were uninformed or poorly educated. Their data must have shown that skeptics are skeptical for a reason - they are well informed and know how weak the evidence for AGW is.

The lawyer has to spin his way out of it to keep the grant money coming. Nice try, chump!
