Distraught over dog's shooting by Fort Worth police officers

Twenty-four hours after a police officer shot Lily, a 5-year-old Border Collie-English Setter mix, its owners still don't understand why the police officer was on their property and why he used lethal force.

... had just returned from a shopping trip and their two dogs had slipped into their truck, then into the garage, before re-emerging when an officer walked up the driveway...

Asked by the officer to control his two dogs, Mark Boling urged him not to advance, but he did. "My dogs don't bite, They're not going to hurt you," Boling, 52, an electronics technician with a defense contractor, recalled saying. "They're just going to run up to you."

A statement issued by police spokesman Sgt. Pedro Criado said the officer waited by the driveway when two barking dogs charged him in an aggressive manner while he repeatedly asked a male at the house to call the animals back. Then the unnamed officer jumped onto the porch pillar.

"As the dogs were getting closer to attack/bite the officer, the officer fired his service weapon, striking the dog closest to him," the spokesman said.

Boling said he had gained control of one of the dogs by the time the officer raised his gun, "Then I hear my wife yelling, 'Don't shoot my baby, please don't hurt my baby!"

From above the dog, the officer fired once, striking the 5-year-old mixed breed on the back. It dashed to the back yard where it bled to death within three minutes.

"You'd better check on your dog," she quoted the officer as responding.

But the policeman still had the gun raised and pointed toward her husband and surviving dog, she asserted.

"Why are you on my property — I didn't call you," Boling recalls asking.

The Border Collie was more intelligent than the cop....just not faster than a bullet.

I keep wondering how many more incidents of cretins with a badge shoot a family pet, before a pet owner finally feels threatened and unloads an 870 into the cop.

Sooner or later, the day will come. Book it.

I just don’t understand this. I thought cops loved dogs. I also don’t understand why so many of them are going to the wrong addresses.

Oh, no. Pit Border Collies may become the latest target of the ban breeders. I’ve seen kennel owners and hotels and dog trainers and property managers, et al prohibiting crossbred Pit Bull type dogs to include Pit/Chow mixes; Pit/GSD mixes; PB/Akita mixes; PB/Dobbie mixes; PB/Rotty mixes; PB/Boxer mixes; PB/Husky mixes...and more. PB/Border Collie mutts are not beyond the pale of banishment. Have you seen the brutality they can inflict upon frisbees, their own tail and the common housefly? SHHHHH before the word gets out.

This has become an increasingly serious problem.

We NEED civilian review boards. And they NEED to have the power to REMOVE cops like the pigs who shot this dog or break into the WRONG apartment or house in a drug raid FROM OFFICE with NO BENEFITS remaining to them. Cops are no longer “professionals” . They are just another brand of civil service union thug - the most dangerous kind - the kind with a gun and the willingness to employ it with arrogance and contempt.

Look, a Democracy only works if the people MAKE it work. Modern day Americans have become increasingly more and more willing to allow bureaucrats, law enforcement GESTAPO types, crooked power mad politicians and arrogant judges dictate the kind of society they live in.

ITS NOT THEIR COUNTRY!!!!! ITS NOT THEIR GOVERNMENT!!!!

ITS OURS AND WE NEED TO TAKE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

While I don’t have this attitude yet, if cops expect us to “give a damn”, then they better stop acting like little hitlers and killing our dogs and family members while bustin in on the wrong addresses.

Get mad, if you want but some of us are getting mad right back.

Re: wrong address phenomenon- Maybe coursing adrenaline and poor performance under pressure clouding already suspect judgment. Also, simple matter of poor officer material to begin with per chance. Sorry FWPD but if the shoe fits...

Cops go to the wrong adrdress so many times a day now, that you are asking for pictures of most police in America.

I see an article almost every day about cops busting in the wrong address and nothing is ever done about it.

'The Pennsylvania State Police obtained a search warrant. They found a bullet-proof vest, several marijuana plants, bags of loose marijuana, a cigar tube full of marijuana seeds, other containers with seeds a spiked club, a knotted tree branch, three rifles, a 12-gauge shotgun with three live shells, a Marlin 30-30 rifle, a Ruger M77 bolt-action rifle, a Winchester M94 lever-action rifle, a Rossi .38-caliber revolver, various bullets and shotgun shells, smoking pipes, a bong, a dufflebag filled with ammunition, a club, keys, a metal tube with white residue, a grinder, a scale and two safes.

My bad - I should have been more specific. I meant someone of the same species.

Uh, the cop's boss said "Shoot 'em" not knowing that the cop only had his taser out.

Most law is made based on cases at the margin.

It's apparently an endemic problem.

Hitcho is less of a dirtbag than 0bama. Bo should not be shot, even if Zer0 can’t control him.

What would THEY (the Hains) think if they could see what WE have allowed these bureaucratic technocrats and Gestapo types to do with the liberty they so dearly bought? They DIED for it and we can’t even SPEAK OUT for it??

Somebody should come up with a sarcastic type of medal for these cops who shoot dogs.

This is a local issue that you all could handle as good citizens on the local level.

You should keep in mind that illegal alien human traffickers are training attack dogs and keeping them ready to attack cops.

On the national level, you could take a stand against open borders.
