Romney tells vets dangerous world demands powerful military (Promises to maintain military power)

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney chose Memorial Day to proclaim to the American people his conviction that the world is a dangerous place, and the United States must remain its most formidable military power.

"The world is not safe," Romney told veterans on Memorial Day. He was joined by Senator John McCain, in a speech to honor the veterans of America's wars.

The United States now has two paths forward, Romney said. He called one "the pathway to Europe," suggesting Europe had acquiesced to geopolitical threats. "To shrink our military smaller and smaller to pay for our social needs."

The other path, Romney said, is "to commit to preserve America as the strongest military in the world, second to none, with no comparable power anywhere in the world."

Romney, expected to face off against President Barack Obama in November, joined the 2008 Republican presidential nominee in thanking the nation's veterans.

Romney, who has focused his campaign on the struggling U.S. economy, changed his focus on Monday in his warning about the dangers of the world outside America's borders, indirectly criticizing Obama's foreign policies.

"I wish I could tell you that the world is a safe place. It's not," Romney said.

During 2008 Willard was asked why none of his FIVE eligible boys had served in the US military...

He answered that they were...

They were serving just like the soldiers in Iraq by working in his campaign ...

I thought I had the actual quote saved but I cant find it...

someone else might have it...

It was shocking and such a slap in the face to the real soldiers...the men and women who are serving our country...

Willard has his head elsewhere...hes out of touch...

Im a veteran and I for one dont want him for CinC...

Never mind the averages on who has more veterans supporting them...

Many veterans supported the draft dodger Bill Clinton also...

What an insult to veterans to have Willard the TWO Time draft dodger talk about them and to them...

Hi, Nana.

I'm a veteran. I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from speaking for me.

Thanks.

Russia is still our number one enemy in the world, and Obama has promised the Russians a mega-surrender deal “after the election”.

I’m very disappointed Romney doesn’t bring this up every time the subject is US military in a dangerous world.

Someone remind me again how Romney is exactly like Obama? Because, as far as this active duty E6 can tell, the only commitment Obama has made to the military has been to shrink it.

Romney has a family full of military service - his dad served, Romney proudly served and didn't avoid the draft and flee to France, all 5 of his sons proudly served.

Oh wait, Romney, his dad, and his sons all had about as much desire to serve their country in uniform as obama did.

Islam. Radical Islamics did more damage to this nation and our freedoms on 9/11 than the Russians and Soviets before them have done since 1945. If anything, Russia (and China) share our biggest threat as well, it's just that they are more brutal in dealing with it.

Tennessee Nana can speak for me - I feel the same way about Willard and his family's lack of military service.

Radical Islam is a brain-damaged crack addict. Russia is a mob hit-man backing up the crack addict to get leverage against law and order.

I have every intention of voting for Romney. If he keeps making intelligent, articulate comments like he did in this article that demonstrate he actually has a clue, I may not even have to hold my nose.

I’m going to follow the soldiers voice. I’m voting for Romney too.

Do your feelings extend to the resounding lack of military service among the top conservatives as ranked by the National Journal? The very organization the Tea Party recommends to gauge who you should support?

The "Tea Party" does not have a leader, a spokesman, nor a website. I think you are confused.

Romney sucks -that is the truth.

Hi, DBeers.

I take it you're yet another person authorized to speak for af_vet_rr. As his spokesman, would you be so kind as to share how he feels about how Randy Neugebauer (who went to college instead of Vietnam) had the nerve to speak at a Memorial Day service?

After all, he said that he gets insulted when draft dodgers talk about and to him.

I speak for myself. If I was speaking for or of another I would have included them in the "To:"...

Lack of military service aside, Romney is a RINO progressive -plain and simple, he sucks. He MAY be better than Obama in some ways; HOWEVER, he is far from a conservative -FAR from it...

Since Mitt’s line immigrated to America in 1842, to personally serve Joseph Smith, after having converted in England, there is not a shred of evidence that any of his line have been “patriotic”, not a one has ever served our nation in uniform, or displayed “patriotism”.

For 170 years, no draft, no war, no need, no patriotism, no anything has managed to snag one of his line, even when they run for president during war time, the sons don’t enlist, or join the Guard.

The Mormon church could issue it’s own draft deferments to white elites of power and privilege, as it did to Mitt Romney, son of a wealthy Governor, who was running for president, BUT NOT ONE SINGLE BLACK MORMON RECEIVED A MORMON DRAFT DEFERMENT.

How many black Mormons were drafted and died in Vietnam, while white Mormons like Mitt, were protected?
