Sketching impressive contributions to society in intensely personal terms, President Barack Obama presented the Medal of Freedom to more than a dozen political and cultural greats Tuesday, including rocker Bob Dylan, astronaut John Glenn and novelist Toni Morrison.
In awarding the nation's highest civilian honor to 13 recipients, living and dead, the president took note of the overflow crowd in the East Room and said it was "a testament to how cool this group is. Everybody wanted to check 'em out."
Obama then spoke of his personal connection to a number of this year's recipients, calling them "my heroes individually."

IBTDCS crowd shows up to bore us all.
Is this medal often given to people posthumously? A lot of dead recipients here, some of which I might question as legitimate nominees. I would’ve thought the Congressional Medal of Honor was the only medal that was worthy of being rewarded in such a fashion, but, then again....
rock on Bob Dylan!
Is this an award for who smoked the most Choom?
Is it just me, or does it look like Obama is biting his nails? His fingertips look strange.
What's your point?

That look is all the rage in Kenya.
Probably the song “Everybody Must Get Stoned”.
What? St. Trayvon’s parents aren’t on the list?
I always get slightly amused when they honor popular musicians. Not that they shouldn’t be honored, but I picture them as young people, playing in some smoky club, with no inkling that they would become so meaningful to our culture that they would be honored for it.
re the shades - how do we know that Dylan doesn’t have eye issues? Having gone through a few medical issues myself in the past few years, I’ve realized people have to do all kinds of things to cope with infirmaries. Maybe he needs the shades. He is hardly an idiot.
Unfiltered Camels?

Obama presents a medal to Zimmerman.
Someone ought to drop that into the trayvon tweet-o-sphere.
Gotta love Dylan’s classic, “Positively 4th Street” — an “Eff Off!” anthem to the leftist dirtbags who used to be his friends in the East Village of New York City back in the day.
Excuse me, but that’s a picture of Vincent Price.
Nasty comments at the source.
Figured Che would have been among those receiving the award. How about Ayers and his female companion?
What an utterly ridiculous thing to say.
I watched coverage of Pat Summitt on our local news and he said hardly anything about her. It was mostly about him and his daughters. He is such a puke.
How very perceptive of him! He must be reaching out.
If she and John Glenn had an ounce of self respect, they would never have appeared with some of those other ding dongs, like Robert Zimmerman.
Some of the recipients make as much sense as giving Obama the Nobel Peace Medal for being a Black Socialist instead of a Caucasion Republican.
Pandering and Political Correctness are destroying any hopes of restoring sanity to American life.
Glenn? Yet another reward for the traitor for his service to the Democrats? Whatever Democrats touch, they disparage, adulterate, or otherwise destroy.
Personally I think Dylan is one of the greatest modern poets, but Medal of Freedom?
The dirty dozen are all left-wingers. Go figure!
The twerp-in-chief, in his perpetual quest for the starring role, also had this to say [caps mine, for emphasis]:
“This is the highest civilian honor this country can bestow, which is ironic, because nobody sets out to win it. No one ever picks up a guitar, or fights a disease, or starts a movement, thinking, ‘You know what, if I keep this up, in 2012, I could get a medal in the White House FROM A GUY NAMED BARACK OBAMA.’”
As always, without exception - no matter what the event or the topic - it HAS to be about himself. He must always be honored and revered.
BREATHTAKING narcissism!
Whatever their accomplishments, big or small or not even worthy, they at least had some accomplishment to mention for getting the award, whereas, Obama had no accomplishments at all when he got an even bigger award.
Wow, good example—sociopathic narcissism on display!
He really thinks that he is the only one in the room whodeserves the medal!
They deserve medals for having to be in the same room as Obama.
laughable
Spoken like a true pot-head.
The devil is becoming more visible through pictures of Obama.
“Obama presents a medal to Zimmerman.
Someone ought to drop that into the trayvon tweet-o-sphere.”
That has to be the funniest thing I’ve read around here in a long, long time. Very clever !!
I’m asking a question, do you have the answer?
Choom, yes.
But if we're going to get technical, that song was titled "Rainy Day Women #12 and 35."
Any song that begins "You got a lotta nerve, to say you are my friend . . ." isn't going to end up pretty, is it? Thanks for the memory.
