Wife and I visited the Iowa's sister ship, the Missouri at Pearl Harbor two years ago. The big BB had just come out of dry dock and looked like a million bucks. Even the officer's dining area was set.
I hope I can see the Iowa after she is trimmed and painted.

Based on Fluke’s expenses she would need 39 of those a day.

I built a 1/350 scale model of the USS New Jersey BB-62, the same class vessel and upgraded like the USS Iowa under regan in the 1980s with 32 Tomahawk missiles, 16 Harpoon missiles, four CIWS and the sensors and fire control to operate them. Tremendous vessels, dating their service back to world War II...then involved militarily through The 1st Gulf War.

They are worthy of being held in museum status...and, as I understand it, according to legislation, some form of readinees status too should they ever need to be called upon again to serve.

Something about those 2000 lb 16" projectiles that strikes fear into any enemey to this day.

If you haven't seen it, I would highly recommend seeig the movie, . GREAT US Navy movie, great action, special effects, acting...you leave being proud to be an American.

Here's a link to my model build:

We toured the Midway at San Diego in March of this year.
It would be hard to top what the Midway offers in the way of history, airplanes, exhibits, etc.
If you go, it’s a full day tour.

So does Connie Miller. As an Iowa junior, we played under the guns in 1954.

The battleship is obsolete. The only thing battleships are good for today is naval fire support. That can be done by guided missiles destroyers which are much less expensive to operate.
