Six-term entrenched incumbent Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, is attacking his conservative challenger, Dan Liljenquist, over his alleged support for tax hikes in Washington. My sides ache.
Liljenquist has never voted for federal tax hikes or massive entitlement spending or multi-billion-dollar bailouts or serial debt-limit increases in Washington because he has never served in Washington. Never. Hatch, by contrast, has spent the last 36 years racking up a Big Government record that cannot be whitewashed away.
Outside the Beltway/Hatch fog machine, Liljenquist’s integrity and commitment to reining in runaway spending are unassailable. In state legislative policy circles, he’s known as the “Paul Ryan of Utah” — after the courageous and wonky Wisconsin Republican congressman who’s forcing kick-the-can politicians in both parties to reckon with welfare-state profligacy.

Possibly but Liljenquist has openly said (withtin the last week) that he would settle for $3 of spending cuts for every $1 dollar of tax increases. The dims have already proven that they will tax and spend their way right through that iffer with NO spending cuts. Sorry on this one Orrin has the right message.... No New Taxes PERIOD
I'll never get over watching Hatch at various Senate confirmations during Clinton's time, he'd pass on everyone using the excuse, "President Clinton received the votes of the American people so he should get the judges, appointees (Janet Reno) he chooses!"
If for no other reasons than that, Hatch needs to be gone!

IF Michelle is on the money here there was an article earlier in the week that must have been disinformation on Liljenquist, because it really tore him down as a BIG tax, and spender. I don’t have a link.
I wonder why Sarah Palin is behind Hatch. I believe she said something about being impressed with his history on budgets, but I can’t swear to that.
Personally I think Hatch is one of many a RINO that absolutely has to go.

Malkin dares to dent the Palin effort to build an early DC machine styled after the Romney effort to capture the GOPE cabal, which began after the ‘08 debacle. Hatch was/is her ticket to sharpen her skills at playing the insider game, by funding select and pivotal campaigns, lending support to some monied and influential Establishment types and keeping up appearances in all the proper places.
The Utah Tea Party group supporting the challenger to Hatch must be shocked and disappointed to see the 4/Palin group smear Liljenquist as a ruthless taxation carnivore. LOL!
We should hope Hatch is knocked out because our message has not yet been delivered that we are deadly serious about ousting Establishment.
The reason we know this is because they fielded us Romney, right in our face and boldly. The first obvious socialist ever to head the Republican ticket.

I disagree completely. There hasn't been a politician or party cut Government in my lifetime. Taxes have gone up and down. Gov't has only gone up! Taxes are easy.
Cutting Gov't is hard. The problem is the excess spending. We have put the debt burden on future generations by not spending only what we have. We have financed our economy with bubbles, cheap credit and debt. Enough is enough, we are broke.

Amen to that. I saw him at a Tea Party once, after we tossed Bennett to the curb. I've never seen anyone look more stiff and uncomfortable. He looked like somebody had rammed a half inch dowel up his backside; no smile, hands clasped tightly in front of him, not mingling around and talking to people, just kind of standing on the sidelines, looking somewhat desperate. And that was before the official festivities started, when everything was at its most informal.
Lately, he has even been acting like he has discovered the brass balls he once had. Maybe it is even true. But he will have to convince a majority of Utah voters by the time he faces a primary election at the end of this month.
Even if he loses, I don't think you are going to see him act like a spoiled entitled brat and refuse to endorse his opponent like Bob Bennett did in 2010. One of my daughter's close friends is on his staff and says that he is genuinely and sincerely nice.
That doesn't mean he hasn't been in DC too long. It just means that he's genuinely nice.
Yes cutting is the key. The deal of 3 for 1 is what Reagan feel for in his first term and he regretted it ever after. No New Taxes. Government has spent everything you sent and more so why give them even more??? Hatch whether you like him or not has listened to the Tea Party. He has for many years been a solid conservative on the judiciary committee. He was a stalwart when Bork needed him and he advocated hardly for Thomas. He was instrumental in getting Roberts and Alito onto the court. Those are big deals
Yeah, folks even say that about Obama. I look at what the man does in Congress - that IS NOT excusable.

At least with Hatch it took a few decades.

One percent is right as I doubt Ted Kennedy had more than one friend. Orrin claimed that Ted Kennedy was his very best friend, so that should prove he is not qualified to be there.
