An influential alderman warned Metras executive director on Thursday that people are going to get hurt if the commuter rail agency fails to bolster minority participation on a $133-million South Side railroad bridge known as the Englewood Flyover.
Ald. Anthony Beale (9th), chairman of the City Councils Transportation Committee, did not explain who he believed would get hurt or who the perpetrators might be. But, he was clearly referring to civil disobedience or maybe even violence at the construction site.
Im trying to help you help yourself. When I say that, problems could arise. When you look at a community like Englewood [that] is challenged and you have over $1 billion of work coming through and theres no people of color working on that project, Im afraid people are going to get hurt, Beale told Clifford during Thursdays committee hearing.
When you look at the make-up of the communitywhen you look at the unemployment rate in that particular community, its probably 35, almost 40 percent. To have a contract come like this in the African-American community with less than one percent minority participation is an insult.
Clifford said he respects and appreciates Beales point. But, he also stood his ground, arguing that Metra has not done anything wrong and followed federal statutes to the letter.
As required by federal law, Metra established a 25 percent benchmark for disadvantaged business enterprises, a category that includes any business with an annual net worth that does not exceed $1.32 million, Clifford said. That means small businesses as well as those owned by minorities and women.

Hmmmm.....blackmail?
Anybody working in that part of town is at risk; black employees less than whites, but it’s still dangerous. The criminals aren’t going to not target people because of a few hires; they’ll keep on doing what they do regardless of whether the workforce “looks like America”, i.e., has a lot of affirmative action hires.
Local crooked pol joining forces with Black Panther Bobby Rush on this absurd matter. They don’t care about any infrastructure getting built any more than Michael Moore (and his fantasy about “getting all the unemployed” to suddenly become skilled workers and “build high speed rail” all over the contiguous 48 states) cares.
Ald. Anthony Beale has erased the line between Idiocracy and Thugocracy. Nice job.
Who is John Galt?
Seems to me that the beautiful Mrs. Conyers made similar threats about hiring the “wrong kind of people” for projects in Detroit before she went to prison.
Since whites cannot effectively mount any resistence to any black demand; I suggest the project be immediately turned over to a black construction firm that “discourages” whites applying for available jobs.
Hmm, kind of like the muzzies threatening to get MAD any time Mo’ is mocked. How do We the People usually respond to a ‘request’ for danegeld? let me think a minute ...
From the Halls of Montezuma ...
to the Shores of Tripoli ...

Amazing amount of entitled threatening.
I didn’t used to be a racist, but the actions of the black “leadership” in this country is making me one. Who the he11 do these idiots think they are threatening violence if they don’t get their way. Maybe there were no qualified minority contractors — but hey that is ok, safety of the public is secondary to minority demands. These “leaders” give blacks a bad name
Might be your people homie.
Some folks are getting sick of this crap.
You bet! It’s shakedown city!
Do you want to go over a bridge built by affirmative action contractors? I don’t!
