The world of video gaming has a problem with sexual harassment. The number of women gamers is growing fast - in the US they now make up 42% of the total - but it remains a macho environment, where women are often exposed to abusive language. (The language in this report reflects that reality.)
"Get back in the kitchen and take your goddamn hands off a video game controller."
The male voices are aggressive, even angry. Their put-downs are laced with strong swearing and sexual insults.
"Stupid bitch," says one. "Fat whore," adds another.
"I hope your boyfriend beats you. Nah, you can't get a boyfriend."
The tirade of abuse ends and Jenny Haniver laughs.
"Get back in the kitchen?" she says. "I'm not in the kitchen because I'm here kicking your ass on video games, that's what I'm good at."

The BBC, as usual, is making up politically correct lies, hoping the audience is too stupid to notice.
“My impression is that guys usually treat girls like princesses in these games.”
Mine as well. :)
it’s called “trash talk”. It is an art. The game of trash talking is almost as competitive as the video game itself.
You can’t fix stupid. Mix it with video games and it’s as bad as a DNC convention or a Obama cabinet meeting.
She needs to get back in the kitchen and learn to be good at cooking instead.
;-)
So they now want the government to monitor Vent and in-game chat rooms to keep their feelings from getting hurt?
Unfortunately, that’s just pretty much how young kids talk to each other anymore.
So I take it that means that you want a law passed to enforce “civility” in online games, enforceable by fines and prison time?
Where did I say I wanted a law passed?
You can command your children to do whatever you wish, as long as you aren't expecting other people to obey your commands also.
No, what I think is what I wrote.
If a person acts with courtesy online and shows respect to others, it reflects positively on him/her.
If a person acts rudely or crudely and chooses not to show respect to others, it reflects negatively on him/her.
What you choose to do is your choice—but actions have consequences, and one ought not complain about the consequence which naturally follows one’s behavior.
Let me preface this by saying I am a female gamer. The gaming community has been dominated by males for many, many years - and the immature behavior is just part of the community. Having females enter it and demand the community to change their ways is like females joining the military and demanding special treatment, and asking for boys to not act like boys. Males can be immature, it’s a fact of life. The funny thing is, the men playing these video games say even worse things to each other, but they just take it as the joke it is.
Video gaming is great because it’s one of the last few sanctuaries in the West where it’s okay to be completely politically incorrect.
Exactly - is nothing sacred anymore? :-)
