How Romney Pushed State Health Bill
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 5, 2012 | MARK MAREMONT

Posted on 06/05/2012 6:30:09 AM PDT by bobsunshine

When Mitt Romney left office as Massachusetts governor, his aides removed all emails from a server computer in the governor's office, and purchased and carted off hard drives from 17 state-owned personal computers, according to a current state official.

But a small cache of emails survived, including some that have never publicly surfaced surrounding Mr. Romney's efforts to pass his now-controversial health-care law. The emails show the Republican governor was closely engaged in negotiating details of the bill, working with top Democratic state leaders and drafting early copies of opinion articles backing it.

Mr. Romney once trumpeted the overhaul as his signature achievement as governor, but he has since played it down amid GOP attacks on the 2010 federal health-care bill signed by President Barack Obama, which bears similarities to the Massachusetts plan. Both contain individual mandates that require residents to buy health insurance.

Mr. Romney today defends the Massachusetts plan as a state initiative, while attacking what he calls "ObamaCare" as an unjustified federal takeover of the health-care system. Many Republicans oppose the individual mandate as unconstitutional, and the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule this month on that issue.

Is there anything wrong with presenting the good(cough), the bad and the ugly of the presumptuous nominee? Before Breitbart died, he said that not only should people vet Obama but Romney as well and vetting doesn’t stop once the primary is virtually over. No one should be blind guides

Ya know, the vetting process is something that was not completely done with Obama. No one wanted to talk about his years in college, he years with Rev. Wright. We didn't want to upset anyone. People didn't fully understand Obama and the media covered for him.

Ok......and?

Just more beating of that long dead horse.

Here's a good article about RomneyCare

99.1% of all children covered with insurance in MA.

I don't like the idea of any kind of mandate though. Insurance is supposed to be a "benefit" for working for a company, not an entitlement.

Obamacare has the individual mandate which is literally satanic IMO. You can't escape it. In Romneycare the mandate is partially on businesses and not on the individual.

I know people from MA that say that Romneycare is a really good thing and they like it. And I believe the intentions Romney had were honorable.

But.... I'm not comfortable with the door Romneycare opens up for every nitwit liberal to shove entitlements on us. Saddling us with debt that are perpetual and can never be paid off, they only continue to grow. That's the blue print for economic collapse.

I think Obamacare is something that needs to be eliminated, if not completely, at least the individual mandate. We keep hearing that we need to provide for the uninsured. So why do we all have to suffer? Congress should have passed a bill only for them.

Remember, Obamacare is Insurance - not better healthcare. People (the uninformed) keep thinking (driven by the media) that this will help our health. No it will not. It provides payments (insurance) for preventive care, etc.

What Romney and the Democrats did in MA might be good for MA and some of the results you mention seem to prove that. But Obamacare is for everyone and as we all know, you can never ever make something fit for everyone.

Did you see the article on what the EPA is doing with the drones to spy on ranchers? Or the one about the EPA killing the coal industry?

“The Massachusetts plan might not have achieved universal coverage, but it has cost taxpayers a great deal of money. Originally, the plan was projected to cost $1.8 billion this year. Now it is expected to exceed those estimates by $150 million. Over the next 10 years, projections suggest that Romney- Care will cost about $2 billion more than was budgeted. And the cost to Massachusetts taxpayers could be even higher because new federal rules could deprive the state of $100 million per year in Medicaid money that the state planned to use to help finance the program.”

Intentions mean squat.
Yea, I can see how MA is benefiting from this massive government intrusion.

Another quote:
The subsidies may have increased the number of Massachusetts citizens with insurance, but as many as 400,000 Massachusetts residents by some estimates have failed to buy the required insurance. That includes the overwhelming majority of those with incomes too high to qualify for state subsidies. Fewer than 30,000 unsubsidized residents have signed up as a result of the mandate. And that is on top of the 60,000 of the state’s uninsured who were exempted from the mandate because buying insurance would be too much of a financial burden.

I don't really have an opinion on Romneycare. It's up to the people in MA. Self determination and all that... if they want it, good for them. If they decide to repeal it, good for them. People have a way out, they can leave MA is all else fails. People have the ultimate way to opt out. I'm good with that.

Obamacare scares the **** out of me! There's no escape.

Yeah right.

Were his intentions honorable when he also did the following?

1. Implemented an "Assault" Weapons Ban AFTER the federal AWB had been allowed to expire.
2. Implemented Socialized Medicine WITH a $50 Abortion
3. Wholeheartedly supported Abortion.
4. Nominated 27 out of 36 extreme, left-wing, Progressive Democrats to judgeships
5. Supported the Brady Bill
6. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens, i.e. McCain-Kennedy
7. Supported Global Warming
8. Worked for the creation of a Carbon Cap-and-Trade system at the state level in Massachusetts
9. Implemented Gay Marriage
10. Supported Gay Adoption and forced it at the state level in Massachusetts.
11. Raised taxes and fees to the tune of $700 million.
12. Stated that he was not interested in going back to the policies of Ronald Reagan.
13. Came out against the Bush tax cuts.

Whenever somebody brings out the hate card, it is a sure sign they have lost the argument.

It is not a two man race, it is a two liberal race, one a little less liberal than the other.

There are other options on the table for the serious and committed conservative, namely, Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party and writing in Sarah Palin.

And for any serious conservatives your attitude about ignoring Romney's record makes them PUKE.

Why can't you just roll over, suppress all your principles and values and do what I have commanded you to do? Romney is a man of honor and does not hate the USA. BHO wants us to be Cuba, don't you know that? I don't care about Romney's record, he was a governor of liberal state, so can't judge him. Romney is not the father of obamaCare, that's a democrat line, are you really a democrat? Your sources are not relevant. You have taken your sources out of context. You've mixed some facts in with argumentative subjective opinion.

June 2011, at a town meeting:

"I don't speak for the scientific community, of course. But I believe the world is getting warmer. I can't prove that, but I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. And number two, I believe that humans contribute to that. I don’t know how much our contribution is to that, because I know there have been periods of greater heat and warmth in the past, but I believe that we contribute to that. So I think it's important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and the global warming that you're seeing."

Yep, Romney believes in MAN MADE global warming.

>>it is a two liberal race, one a little less liberal than the other. <<

Nope. It’s a liberal against someone unlike people we know.

1. Do you know anyone who has the understanding and gained their understanding of Jesus Christ and defend it, and they got that understanding from someone like Jeremiah Wright? Do you know anyone who is a good Christian that believes there is no salvation unless there’s collective salvation?

2. Do you know somebody who is raised and/or mentored by communists?

3. Do you have friends or acquaintances that are Marxists, Communists, or have been actively engaged in the overthrow of the United States government?

4. Have you ever been at a party celebrating someone who has been accused of domestic terrorism?

5. Do you know anyone or have you ever been to a party and gave a toast to someone who is accused of being a Muslim terrorist?

6. Do you or any of your friends have the belief that terrorism doesn’t really exist? And that by definition jihad is only a holy struggle?

7. How many of you or how many of your friends have hired members of the Muslim Brotherhood to provide security for your business or their business? Or would hire members of the Muslim Brotherhood to go through and put together your security for your town?

8. Do you have any friends that believe the Muslim Brotherhood is largely secular and good?

9. Do you know anybody that thinks NASA’s foremost goal should be Muslim outreach, so you can help them and NASA can help them feel good?

10. Do you know anybody who believes that Occupy Wall Street features the best people in our country right now?

11. Is it even conceivable that anyone you know or associate with would think that killing Osama Bin Laden was a tough decision? With that, you have a single friend who in that case would make sure that we have a “blame someone else” memo ready just in case it went wrong?

12. Do you have anybody in your circle of friends or your circle of influence that believes America and Israel is the biggest obstacle to peace and stability in the world. Do you know anyone who believes the United States constitution needs to be a photo negative to be right with the world today?

13. Would you or anyone you know take a gift given to the United States after 9/11, a bust of Winston Churchill, and try to give it back to the prime minister on your first meeting? And when he says, “No, no, that’s a gift, you can keep it,” would you or anyone in your circle of influence then take that bust, box it up, ship it back yourself and say “We don’t need it anymore”?

14. Do you know anyone, a single person, who has a wife or a husband that has never been proud of the United States of America until something good happened in their life?

15. Do you know anybody who would actively defend allowing a baby to die without treatment in a hospital if an abortion failed? That the baby would be born outside, the doctors would have it, and they would be allowed to put it in a closet and just let it die?

16. Would someone in your life withhold needed money from poor countries or suggest that needed money from poor countries was withheld unless they change the Constitution to be pro-abortion?

17. Do you know anybody who believes the only way out of debt is to spend $5 trillion in three and a half years? Or believes Solyndra and other green businesses were a good bet, and that the people’s hard earned money is something you should gamble with and you think that it should continue?

18. How many people do you know personally that would give a shout out to someone to say, “Hey, I just want to say hi to Bob over there and thank Bob – It’s been a great day, Bob,” before you had to announce to the country that 13 soldiers were murdered by an Islamic extremist on our own soil?

19. Do you know anybody who claims to be a huge Israeli supporter? Do you know anybody who says, “I’m the biggest fan of Israel, they’re our biggest and strongest ally, and I’m a huge supporter. I’m the best thing that has happened.” And that when the prime minister of that country flew from the other side of the globe to have a scheduled dinner with you, you would humiliate him and blow off for dinner? Let him eat alone while you had a quiet dinner someplace else with friends? Do you know anybody who says, “I am the biggest supporter of Israel,” and then visited all of the Muslim countries around Israel but couldn’t find the time to go to Israel? And that as Israel’s biggest, most loyal supporter, believes they should go back to the indefensible ’67 borders? I understand it if you’re not a fan of Israel, but if you’re a fan of Israel, do you know a soul that is a true fan of Israel that says, “Yes, go back to the ’67 borders”?

20. Do you know any committed capitalist who believes in redistribution of wealth?

Romney is not Obama. Obama is a Marxist, Israeli hating, Muslim Brotherhood Jihadi loving, narcissist looking to destroy us.

I personally don't believe in the junk science surrounding man made global warming. But it's easy to see why people do to some degree or another.

We DO need to move to non-carbon based fuel. That's just a fact.

If you google any state in the country for safe fish or fish warnings you'll find a link to the state environmental reports. This includes where you can and can not eat fish from lakes and rivers in the state.

Take Missouri for instance, there's even a warning on fish from private ponds. It's all due to pollutants coming out of the air. Primarily mercury poisoning which gets passed up the food chain.

You may not care, but we(humans) ARE poisoning pretty much everything on the planet. That's a fact.

Clean air and water are still worth pursuing.

None of your points against Obama can change the fact that Mitt was the architect of Obamacare and is proud of it. There is NO WAY that he will repeal all or part of it in the unlikely event that he should defeat Obama.

Read the article at the top of this thread.

The GOP-E believed all the evidence was destroyed when Mitt left office. They forced him on the conservatives and AIDED Mitt in destroying all the other candidates. Now the truth is coming out, and on the WSJ to boot!

I have personally had mormon "masters" and refuse to aid in installing one over the whole country.

No, Romney did not implement gay marriage. He has never supported it at all.

No, you appear to be ignorant of the facts.

I never said he supported it verbally, I said he implemented it.

1. The Supreme Court of MA tried to implement an illegal and unconstitutional policy of Gay Marriage through judicial fiat using a deadline.
2. The Constitution of MA states explicitly that all laws concerning Marriage are to be created by the legislature of MA.
3. Romney was warned by a minimum of 44 conservatives and jurists, many who had practiced MA state law, that what the Supreme Court was attempting to do was both illegal and unconsitutional.
4. Romney was also pressured by conservatives to call for the impeachment of the justices who had ordered Gay Marriage implemented.
5. Gay Marriage could not be implemented without Romney forcing the issue.
6. Even after being warned by legal experts that what the Supreme Court was trying to do was both illegal and unconstitutional, Romney went ahead and implemented it.

As usual, Romney's actions, when it is most important, are the exact opposite of his words.
