Zogby: Obama Facing 'Serious Crack' in His Youth Base

Respected pollster John Zogby tells Newsmax that the younger voters who massively supported Barack Obama in 2008 could now be a “serious crack” in his base going into the November election.

Zogby says his most recent polls show Obama essentially tied with Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Analyzing the presidential race among several demographic groups, he says in an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV:

Obama right now in his favor is doing very well among Latinos and is likely to do very well among Latino voters. They not only were critical to him in 2008, but we’re expecting two million more Latino voters in 2012. It’s not likely that Republicans are going to do well with Latino voters under any circumstances.

Number two, he had 95 percent of the African-American vote in 2008. He will get that again.

The creative class, 35 million strong who work in the world of ideas and who helped tilt a lot of formerly red states blue, they are turned off by issues like contraception and some of the elements of social conservatism that came out during the Republican debates.

The fly in the ointment for Barack Obama is young people, 18 to 29 years old. He won massively among that group. This is a completely different group this time around. [There has been] three and a half, almost four years of recession for this group, a lot of hopeless. Watch a battleground play out in the fall, not between Romney and Obama on college campuses but between Obama and Gary Johnson, the libertarian, who I think speaks to a lot of frustration of young people. …

Hmmm...I wonder how many of those Latinos have a legal right to vote.

Obama is on track for a defeat in November of epic proportions.

I sure hope you're right, but I hear the dead voters are enthusiastically looking forward to the November election, and Eric is working hard to ensure that they get to vote.

Does anyone try to track this on a DETAILED state by state basis? It is all well and good to make these assumptions, but if Obama loses 5% in CA..it doesn’t matter, same with NY.

If Romney loses a bit in Texas it wouldn’t matter.

What matters is the same handful of state that have been talked about for the last few elections. Latinos IN OHIO and IN FLORIDA and IN NEVADA. Young voters in WISC and VIRGINIA etc.

It doesn’t matter in states like Conn, Alabama, Georgia, New Jersey etc.

Earlier this year, January I think it was - I was down in Austin Texas and was in the area of Guadalupe Street aka "The Drag" and saw a huge poster in the window of some shop. Didn't get a photo unfortunately, but took a photo of pResident Twinklebritches off the internet and altered it to look as close as I could get to what I saw:

WAR IS PEACE

Ouch - looking like the Austin hippy vote isn't with him.

Why would there be two million more Latio voters? There’s something very wrong with that number.

While what you say may be true we are going to end up with a liberal anyway. Too bad we did not bring up and support a conservative for the race.

“Let’s face it Obama will turn us into a country of minorities, gays, welfare cases and malcontents. Working, middle class, whites, need not apply.”

We’re already there; remember when this was called the “he-cession”? This country criminalized white men under BJ Clinton, and it has only gotten more pronounced. Whatever his faults, George W. Bush spoke out against affirmative action and got TWO white guys onto a Supreme Court that is basically closed to white Christian men. As a father with young sons, I’ve made it clear to them how the world works; I hope they’re part of the solution.

I agree, but that ship has sailed. We need to focus on getting TEA Party candidates elected to every level of local, state and federal government. Eight years from now we will have a much deeper bench to select our candidates from.

I troll undercover on a forum where there are a lot of 20-somethings.

It’s interesting how the love for Baraq has evaporated in 4 years.

Nothing like some big honkin’ student loans and no job openings to adjust the attitude.

We have 182,000 illegal voters registered here in Florida and Holder wants them to stop the purge on them.

IF (and it’s a big IF) a Republican president can turn the economy around, Obama may have created as many conservatives as Jimmy Carter did. I remember what an embarassment Carter was, particularly in the area of national defense. The kids knew it as they watched the nightly news - “America held hostage - Day 357” night after night (after night). In a weird sort of way, Carter did more for our national defense than any other president. The same may be true for Obama in regards to the economy.
