Skip to comments.Reid: Bet on filibuster changes if Obama, Dems win in November

A frustrated Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he and other Democrats would likely push for changes to Senate filibuster rules if the Democrats hold the Senate in November, and blamed Republican obstructionism for forcing these changes.
"I'll just bet you if we maintain a majority, and I feel quite confident that we can do that, and the president is reelected, there is going to be some changes," Reid said on the Senate floor Thursday morning. "We can no longer go through this, every bill, filibusters on bills that they agree with. It's just a waste of time to prevent us from getting things done."
Reid was frustrated over Thursday's planned 10:30 a.m. procedural vote on the farm bill specifically, a vote to end debate on the motion to proceed to that bill. Reid implied that Republicans have not consented to proceeding to the bill, which forced his hand to try ending debate through a vote.
"We're going to have a cloture vote on the ability for us to proceed to the bill, the ability of us to start legislating," Reid said. "I don't need to give a lecture
about how vexatious this is that we have to do this every time."

I wonder what dirty harry will say when the pubbies change the filibuster rules when they win the Senate in Nov?
You mean like passing a budget?
Another reason to get rid of these creeps come November!
You got your precious Stimulus Bill and Social Medicine. I think I speak for most Americans when I say, “shut the hell up you sniveling weasel.”
I think you have done enough damage in those two bills for a Century of Congressmen.
Wasn’t Harry azz Reid the architect of the original bill for the flibuster rule?
Failing to do so, at the state level, speaks volumes about how involved those states really are.
Might have been little Tommy Dashole
Harry is fine with teh rules when they bolster Dim obstructionism, but when it forces their agenda to take a nap he gets angry?
Last I checked, Dems have to defend 23 of 33 seats. Repubs defend 10 of 33. Notwithstanding any wave/tsunami/anti-lib wave or any existing leanings, chance says Repubs gain 7 [23/2 + 10/2 - the 10 they currently hold.]
Rs take the Senate. Rs hold the House. RINO takes the White House.
My first thought also, though I included all the DemoRats.
Just think, pubbies implementing stated Rat policy, LOL.
Harry may have a recall fight of his own to deal with. We are coming!
1) You assume that the GOP-E will be so impolite as to annoy the Dems.
2) He would squeal like a pig, and the Senate Dems would behave like the Wisconsin Dems did when they didn't get things their way.
3) You notice, he hasn't said anything about changing the rules NOW, while it's uncertain who will control the Senate in 2013.
If the Dems win in November, be prepared for ugliness in 2013 that will dwarf how Pelosi/Reid shoved ObamaCare down our throats.
Dingy Harry had a very different view when he was part of the Senate Minority party. He was one of the leaders of the filibustering process in the 2002-2006 periods when the Democrats were in the minority. So now that Harry is wearing the shoe, only now does it pinch? Is there anything new under the sun?
