Obama blames GOP Congress for slowing economy, Romney fires back

Facing a slew of economic bad news, President Obama said Friday the private sector is doing just fine but blamed Republicans for not helping out-of-work teachers and other public-sector employees – an analysis pounced on by GOP leaders.

“The private sector is doing fine,” the president said during a White House press conference. “Where we're seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government. … If Republicans want to be helpful, if they really want to move forward and put people back to work, what they should be thinking about is how do we help state and local governments.”

GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney responded within minutes from a campaign stop in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

“He said the private sector is doing fine,” Romney said. “Is he really that out of touch? I think he’s defining what it means to be detached and out of touch with the American people. Has there ever been an American president who is so far from reality as to believe in an America where 23 million Americans are out of work.”

His reasoning is bizarre. What he’s really saying is that he sees an excuse to make big government even bigger. He’d love to ship money off to the big-spending, big-government states—with strings—who coincidentally are all Dem strongholds.

Good response from the Romster.

Maybe he should have added, "With all due respect to the office of the Presidency, I have to wonder if this dude has started doing blow again."

....helping out-of-work teachers and other public-sector employees

ironic that Obama wants to help these people...just after blowing them off in Wisconsin

“Where we’re seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government. …

...I’ve never, ever heard an economist say the above. You have to be a moron to say this. The best quote I could find that would fit this quote was from Jack Nicholson........Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City “Sailor wanna hump-hump” bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we’re all stocked up here

Harry Reid said the same thing months ago.

Democrats learned everything they know about economics from watching Montgomery Burns on The Simpsons.

Anyone remember the days when people like this were given toys to play with, supervision, 3 meals a day and encouraged to not drool in public?

Anyone?

He's a direct mouthpiece for Gov't workers who see people on TV who are having a good time so conclude that the private sector is OK.

He is their bot now...his spinning from left-wing fundraiser to left-wing fundraiser shows that.

I ain’t that wild about Romney, but at least he’s not bending over to praise and excuse 0bama every chance he gets like McCain. I voted for McCain to get Sarah close to the Big Chair. I will vote Romney to get 0bama out of it.

re: “GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney responded within minutes from a campaign stop in Council Bluffs, Iowa.”

Excellent! This is exactly what we have needed the Republican candidate to do for as long as I can remember. Instead of ignoring the attacks by the Democrats and possibly addressing them a couple weeks later or more likely not at all, the candidate should always respond immediately! Clinton was a master of it. He always got the final word. Most Republican candidates show up for battle without a weapon. Immediately responding to the shear lies and propaganda spewed out by Obama on a daily basis is essential to staying in the fight.

The sad part is.. even though the weak economic reports keep piling up... nearly half of American voters believe Obama’s words.

I came to the conclusion long ago the McCain was simply to impressed and enthralled with Obama to mount a serious challenge to him. And that must've frustrated Sarah Palin to no end.

I was wondering, maybe, if McCain’s mind was broken, and he lacked the will to stand up to anyone,

then I remembered how hard he fights against conservatives when they challenge him.

It's all about the all-powerful media. I have to laugh at the fools that post the "Media Deathwatch" stories here. They are more powerful than ever. I mean it.

In the past, they at least had the appearance of being unbiased (even though they were)... Now with FOX and Talk Radio, they have cover to veer hard left, under the guise of neutralizing the conservative voices

They are more shrill, brazen and disgusting than ever.

Yep.. the "media" gave up the facade of balance a generation ago. They are merely propaganda organs for the democrats.

I don't think so.

In the old days, Uncle Walter (the most trusted man in America) could spew his socialist garbage for years and years and there was no one to challenge him.

Today, the leftist media is not getting away with nearly as much thanks to new media on the right. For example, this is a major reason they lost in WI. That loss wouldn't happened in the Dino era.

In the old days, you had CBS/NBC/ABC/PBS. You didn't have all of the cable channels. Or all of the lib web-site... Or all of the newspapers giving up any pretext of fairness

Back in the day, you never had a "news" channel that was openly supporting the Dem candidate. OPENLY doing so. Disgraceful.

Folks talk about FOX, and how they lead in # of viewers... They get about 3 million (on the high end) per night... If you factor the lib channels, ABC/NBC/ABC each night, the number of people that get their news from lefty organizations dwarfs our side. Not even close
