Carrie Underwood Supports Gay Marriage
US Magazine ^ | June 11, 2012 | Nicole Eggenberger

Posted on 06/11/2012 3:07:58 PM PDT by Pinkbell

It may come as a surprise to some of her fans, but Carrie Underwood has announced her support for gay marriage.

The devoutly Christian "Jesus, Take the Wheel" country singer spoke out to The Independent on why she believes marriage should be legal for all.

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," Underwood, 29, explained. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

The American Idol winner was raised in a Baptist church, but now attends a non-denominational church with her hockey player husband, Mike Fisher.

"Our church is gay friendly," she said. "Above all, God wanted us to love others. It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me'. No. We're all different. That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."

And the Christian star from Oklahoma doesn't agree with "people who use the Bible for hate."

"That's not how I would want myself as a Christian to be represented."

I’m pretty sick of this “Shut up and sing” thing. It is so unAmerican. Sounds like petty jealousy to me. If you want to be heard, speak louder.

I say the same thing; I work part time at Walmart (middle of southern Indiana) and in the year 2012, I have more in common with the African Bushman (who truely is a believer and follower of Jesus Christ) than I do some of the people that walk through the door to our “supercenter” and that I help with their purchases (of items that most don’t really even need). It doesn’t matter poor, rich, have you a changed heart by God through Jesus??

Unbelievable.

Just this Friday, I heard Whitney Allen say how it's great that France has lowered the retirement age to 60. She also pushes other liberal causes, like obama. I don't even know why she's on that show. Country ain't what it used to be.

I never understood the appeal of “non-denominational” Christianity. <<

Really? What denomination is Jesus?

You misunderstand "Shut up and sing". She has every right to say anything she likes.

But, if it hurts her bottom line, well...there you are.

And yes, I'm jealous that I can't make a living doing what she does. If I could, I would stay out of politics.

I forget who said "Republicans buy shoes, too"...I think it was Michael Jordan.

I did not realize FR opinions were valued by number of posts. I am a supporter of the Constitution. I see no mention of homosexual marriage in the Constitution.

What would happen if Carrie married Ron Wood (currently of the Rolling Stones)? Would she under some circumstances be Underwood under Wood?!

Above all, God wanted us to love others

Which is false statement. The second great commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. There's a commandment that comes immediately prior; to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind. Absent the first great commandment the love we have for ourselves is only a selfish narcissism - there's no imperative to apply that type of love to our neighbor.

Perhaps Yankee hasn't read JimRob's statement which reads in part ~

Regarding Post 119: I first heard Mr. Cairns on the Internet around 10 years ago. I can't even remember how I stumbled upon him (or Sermonaudio.com for that matter), but I am glad I was led there.

I wouldn't call Silicon Valley all bad ... at least some of the technology is useful, and like you said, it is a blessing to get access to all these wonderful preachers and teachers of God's Word.

She said, “Above all, God wanted us to love others.” That’s heresy. Above all, God wants us to love Him (Luke 10:27). How does someone express love for God? By keeping His commandments (John 14:15). Love for others is not “above all.”

I ask you, which is a better expression of love? Gently admonishing and encouraging others to repent, give up evil, and sin no more, or standing by while they die in their sins because you don’t want to hurt their feelings? You’re supposed to love your neighbor as yourself. Doesn’t someone who loves himself want to be saved? Yes.

Frankly, Satan and his acolytes simply adore misguided Christians like Carrie Underwood. Just think, a “devout Christian” has come out in favor of gay marriage! How edgy! How open minded and loving!

How corrupt.

I believe the Anti-Christ will use and twist scripture to deceive many, even Christians (Mark 13:22). Note that Satan actually quoted scripture when he tempted Christ (Luke 4:10-12). How did Christ refute Satan? By correctly interpreting and using scripture!

BTW, my mom’s parents were “Yanks”. If not for the “Yanks” there would be
no Republic. The South represents many great things, and I am proud of my father’s heritage. I thank God our country survived the Civil War, and we are all Americans now. “Yank and “Reb” are no better than any of the other over-used hyphenated names used today.

If Free Republic does not stand for Free Conservative Thought I guess I am wasting my time.

she either had these views all the time and waited till she got a fanbase and some money or she met many of those homo's and then fell for their B/S lies and them always telling people how they just want to love.

Either way it still stuns me how many fools are out there who say they now have no problem with homo's because they know a couple and they are nice

Ping to my post #136.

Mike, you are so right about Christians who pervert the word being the worst. When a “devout Christian” says they support gay marriage, it does far more damage to the truth than when an unbeliever sins. That’s why the press LOVES to write articles about supposedly good people who support sodomy.

How in the world can a homosexual be saved if he goes to a “devout Christian” church only to be told homosexuality is OK? I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt by saying Carrie Underwood is acting out of ignorance rather than malice, but she’s leading people astray!
