Posted on 06/11/2012 3:18:02 PM PDT by Nachum
In response to reports that the Environmental Protection Agency is using unmanned aerial drones to monitor Midwest farms, Rep. Tom Latham (R., Iowa) sent a letter to an EPA administrator Sunday demanding more information on the surveillance program.
Few developments in the news in recent weeks have disturbed me more than what were learning about the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) using unmanned drone aircraft to monitor Iowa farms, Latham said in a statement Sunday. In some cases, were learning that the EPA has used the aircraft to gather information on agricultural operations. The simple truth is that no government agency should be able to treat Iowa farmers like the Taliban.
Farmers take great care to comply with clean water and clean air regulations, Latham continued. So a federal agency spending tax dollars to fly aircraft over farms to gather information on regulatory compliance is far beyond whats necessary to enforce environmental regulations.
Any reports of EPA using unmanned aircraft, or drones, are wrong, the agency said in a statement to the Washington Free Beacon. The EPA insists that it uses only manned aircraft to verify compliance with environmental laws, a practice that has been in place for nearly a decade. The agency says the over-flights are a cost-effective tool that reduces the need to do on-site inspections, but enforcement actions are never made on the air patrols alone.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Wow. He sent a letter. That oughta leave a mark. /s
Drones looking for weed growers..
The way to deal with this is to get the names and home addresses of the EPA officials in charge of this operation and then perform surveillance on them and see how they like it.
” Dont treat Iowa farmers like the Taliban “
They don’t — there are Rules of Engagement involved with tht Taliban that don’t apply to Iowa farmers...
Yep, the UN’s *Agenda 21* it is. I’m surprised that they haven’t been shot down, yet. Maybe this one was?
What’s the daily bag limit on drones?
And what’s the best rifle to take them down?
One more reason to eliminate the EPA.
The monstrosity that is the EPA puts the apparatchiks of the old Soviet Union to shame.
Pretty ironic that we fought proxy wars against foreign communists only to let them set up local operations in DC.
Thanks for the ping. I vacillate between red hot anger and just weeping for our nation.
Don’t shoot’em, they shot back. It’s getting to the point that everytime we leave the house just give the finger to the sky, SOMEONE is bound to see it.
Paint a big F U on your roof and see how long it takes the govt to do something.

Another reason to hate the “war” on drugs, the erosion of personal liberty.
See my tag line
No, its time to shoot them. Rifles, modified model rockets, model airplanes/helicopters with nets, strings, weights, or even fireworks. Go nuts.
Yeah, he should have stormed the Bastille.
There's no firearm which could do it. One possibility...
this is a pr issue. they need to make the drones friendly. air shows and stuff. maybe even sell advertising on them.
Texas has been doing this for years. In the late 1980’s I few with a pilot and his wife in their Piper 180. He was the pilot and she was the photographer. He would fly a grid and she would lay in the back taking photos of the farm lands through a window in the bottom of the plane. They said the purpose was so that the Tx Dept. of Ag could tell what was planted and if a farmer was planting on land that was supposed to lay fallow. Farmers were paid not to plant.
No High Tech photo equipment just a regular Nikon with a wide angle lens.

A .50 BMG will git’er dun! Stingers would just be delightful.
First the drones fly over, and then the militarized SWAT teams show up, and they are too stupid to get the right address, even if a UPS driver points it out to them.
Maybe, as long as they share the footage.
Surveillance. Yeah, that's what it's called ;)
He sent a letter? ooooooOOOOooOOO!
How about drafting legislation, get a few hundred co-sponsors and have a House vote on domestic spying?
Or cut the EPA’s purse strings
Sounds like the congressman’s biggest concern is the taxpayer dollars that are being spent.
This could hurt Obama in a swing state like Iowa. Congressman Latham was wise to draw some attention to it. Hopefully it will get some legs.
The collapse will be when the SS and welfare checks stop coming.
The franchise must be limited and determined by the states.
Incorporate term limits and rotate the Capital amongst the States.
"Democracies have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death." James Madison
Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. John Adams: letter to John Taylor, April 15, 1814
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.:Thomas Jefferson
the epa is just looking for any water standing in the fields after a rainstorm so that they can declare the field a “navigatible waterway” and seize the land from the farmer.
And we’re upset why?
Haven’t defeated the Third World Taliban or Al Qaeda with drones yet.
Haven’t made a dent in the WOD with drones yet.
Haven’t stopped uneducated peasants crossing the border with drones yet.
Haven’t stopped gang violence in the cities with drones yet.
All our technology, and we haven’t won a single war since WWII, no matter how small and rag tag the army of the hellholes we’ve fought in.
This is rediculous, why drones when you can simply chemically test the farmer’s soil with a few scoops and basic chemistry equipment?
Because that would leave out the all-important “intimidation factor.” It’s the new black.
Geez, what happened to the Iowa I grew up in as a boy?
Perhaps part of the mission is damage assessment - to see how well the chemtrails are doing at decimating US agriculture.
It will be interesting to see if they are packing “heat” (Hellfires etc.) on their under wing racks or not.
It will be hard to tell, and harder to shoot them down as some suggest, since they normally operate around 80,000 ft. altitude. They are extremely difficult to detect, much less engage. If you could spot one you could try a laser, but even if you got lucky all you might manage to do is mess up their camera... and not get caught!
Miss and a hellfire might be coming right back down that laser beam at you. Those things can really mess up your whole day!
“Whats the daily bag limit on drones?”
Why just drones? :)
“...small and rag tag the army...”
One of these days ‘We the People’ may become that small rag tag army, and they won’t defeat us either...quite the contrary.
Yes - my point exactly. Well said.
What line item in the budget authorized this expenditure?
What committee in Congress examined the deal?
