Jeb Bush: Willingness to compromise in DC is gone
Boston Globe/AP ^ | June 12, 2012 | Brendan Farrington

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says he believes that the willingness to compromise that allowed Presidents George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan to succeed no longer exists in Washington. He faults both parties for the problem.

"My father and President Reagan were successful because they were willing to put policy solutions above political wins. They recognized the president has a significant influence and ability to drive the agenda and used that to find common ground," Bush said in an email to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

"Washington today is hyper-partisan with people speaking off political talking points rather than working together to find common ground to address the issues our country faces," Bush said.

Bush's comments came a day after several news organizations reported that his father and Reagan would have a hard time winning the presidential nomination in today's Republican Party. Earlier Tuesday, Bush used Twitter to say his remarks were taken out of context. He told the AP that he was talking about partisanship in Congress as a whole.

"Both parties are at fault. Rep. Paul Ryan is one of the few who has shown courage. He proposed a well thought-out budget as a starting place for real discussions," Bush told the AP.

"What was he met with -- incredible criticism from both parties. But, I hold Democrats more accountable because they control two of the three offices -- president & Senate. Over the last four years, they have had multiple opportunities and have opted to take the politically expedient route over working together to find a policy solution."

Bush reiterated his view that the tone of the Republican Party often concerns him.

"I don't believe it's a party that doesn't allow for disagreement among members -- but that is often what it sounds like,"

Mr. “Above the Fray” Just like the ever useless Johnnie Boy from Arizona.

Hey Jeb, your daddy “compromised” on taxes and the Democrats then crucified him with it.

Your brother was repeatedly called “Hitler” and everything else under the sun during his presidency. What did that “new tone” get him?

People like these pols have battered wife syndrome and need to wake up.

Translation - Our DINO executive, who RINO McCain said would make a good President, is no longer functional. Therefore, we need to replace him with a RINO executive.

Good luck with that. Wont be a RINO or DINO House. And the Senate may be up for grabs.

Hey Jeb, please read this (see below) and know that this core concept still lives at the DNA level of what it means to be an American. Winning, Victory, right over wrong, good over evil. THIS IS AMERICA, JEB. . SO CUT THE CRAP WILL YA!?

"Men, all this stuff you've heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. Americans, traditionally, love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle.

When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big league ball players, the toughest boxers. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. Now, I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans."

Compromise itself is necessary and can be good, but it’s not an end in itself. You compromise where you must to work toward your ultimate goals. You set priorities, things you can sacrifice and other things you hold dear. Jeb Bush and many other moderates seem to think compromise itself is the goal.

I often write how I’m a true moderate. I’m willing to compromise. The government is spending $1.5 trillion per year it doesn’t have, so we have to cut that much. I propose the immediate elimination of the Dept. of Education and Dept. of Energy, all green energy and farm subsidies, all corporate and private welfare programs, etc. However, I’m ready and willing to settle for substantial reductions, over time, in all of the above. See? That’s compromise!

Jeb Bush is still willing to “compromise” about anything with anyone. Surprise! /sarcasm.

Terri Schiavo is still dead via court ordered forcible starvation and dehydration
And yes, the government has now set up plans to ration health care, based strictly on one’s perceived usefulness by government, regardless of ability to pay, even for mere food and water.
It's not murder if a doctor or judge says you need to die right now, as opposed to later...as long as you are not convicted of a crime.

But hey thanks, Jeb!
I will give your considered opinion the weight it deserves!

Wasn’t Jeb the Florida Governor who could have, or was obligated to, stop the intentional killing of Terri Schiavo but gave some lame excuse why he would not intervene?

Anyway, JB appears to be gaining popularity these days - wonder if a Romney Veep position is in the cards.

Norm Lenhart: “I respect the Dems for their refusal to compromise. I don’t agree with anything they stand for, but at least they have the sense to stand behind their insanity. We send people to DC to further our beliefs, not to ‘compromise’ them.”

I see it the same way. As much as I detest Nancy Pelosi’s ideology, I respect her for always fighting tooth and nail for her team. Like her or not, she managed to corral her team into passing politically unpopular legislation even at the cost of some of their political careers.

Anyone who thinks most Republican leaders want smaller government ignores the evidence. We had a Republican Congress and president. When they had the chance, they did what secretly always wanted (and want) to do...expand government and intervene all over the world. Where, oh where, are the GOP’s warriors? Our guys can't wait to surrender, because honestly, a lot of them oppose rank and file Republicans on many issues. The Bushes, for example, want an immigration amnesty...badly, but the base adamantly opposes one. Compromise is a means for the Bushes to covertly achieve their goals without pissing off the base. “Oh, we have to compromise,” they say. Yeah, right.

How do you compromise with a party that literally wants to enslave you, a party that thinks it has the moral right to take whatever it wants from whoever it wants and redistribute it however it wants, who sees government as some sort of fairness arbiter over all the citizens? How in the world are you suppose to compromise with that?

That said, I’m actually willing to compromise so long as we’re moving to the right for a change. I might want a constitutional marriage amendment, but I’d settle for each state being free to make its own decisions (and no state being forced to accept homosexual “marriages” from another state, i.e. DOMA). You see. That’s real compromise.

Well...of course....because that is how YOU (and a normal person) define Compromise....Democrats/socialists et al....define it as “our way or the highway”....

Dear Jeb:

Charles Krauthammer just put your comment to bed. Let me paraphrase: your father is a good man, and he was a good president. Not great, but good. Reagan was great, and moved the discussion to his side.

As for Compromise, READ MY LIPS, NO NEW TAXES.

Now please go do what it was you were doing.

Can’t compromise with evil. Never.

Homosexual “marriage” is insane—silly, illogical and unnatural. Law has to be reasonable and use logic—otherwise, they are unjust (and unconstitutional).

In a state-—you don’t get to vote inalienable rights away—and that includes the natural right of children to be raised by their biological parents. A system based on the Rule of Law HAS to be based on Natural Rights from God (not made up phony “rights” from Barney Frank—to sodomy—there is no right to nihilistic, evil, destructive behaviors even if you rename it and the majority vote for it).

Unjust Law passed by the majority is tyrannical. To force unnatural acts—forcing the elimination of Christian Ethics—the foundation of Ethics in our Constitution—eliminates God from our Natural Rights and installs Barney Frank as “god”. Can’t do it in a country based on Natural Rights from God.

Apparently, the willingness to compromise with commies who want to destroy America is alive and well in the Bush family.

Jeb’s way is exactly why the country is on the edge of bankruptcy and why we see society hitting new moral and ethical lows daily.

Compromise means you give up what you believe in.
Liberals are always pushing, pushing, pushing.
When republicans and democrats compromise it means republicans back down and democrats take a little more.

It is time to take a firm stand.
How do you compromise core principles?

How do you compromise on the US Constitution?

How do you compromise on killing babies?
Do you say “Okay, just do every third one”?
