Obama unveils new Africa strategy

US President Barack Obama released a sweeping new Africa strategy Thursday, declaring a continent torn by poverty, corruption and discord could be the world's next big economic success story.

The new US blueprint seeks to boost trade, strengthen peace, security and good governance and bolster democratic institutions, and is designed to help Africa's increasingly youthful population lead its development.

"As we look toward the future, it is clear that Africa is more important than ever to the security and prosperity of the international community, and to the United States in particular," Obama said.

The plan was unveiled nearly three years after Obama, whose father was Kenyan, laid out his priorities for the often crisis-scarred continent in Ghana, on the sole trip of his presidency so far to sub-Saharan Africa.

It comes as Washington, tooling a foreign policy towards trade and development, also views Africa's intractable conflicts with concern, including in areas ripe for extremists to exploit, including in Somalia and even Mali.

***The new US blueprint seeks to boost trade, strengthen peace, security and good governance***

Yep - I knew ‘good governance’ had to be in there somewhere...can’t have peace and prosperity without it!

Umm...Africa?
Our country is going off a cliff because of zero and the dems (sprinkle in a bunch of RINO's as well) and Africa is of concern?

His "black vote" must truly be in the crapper if he's advocating for the homeland.

All the radical Muslims and Communists in Africa can’t raise the place from the dead, not even, or especially not with, Obama as their plastic messiah. Maybe Russia and China can move in, and try their hands at recolonizing it. First they would have to get rid of all the Obamaesque despots.

It's not a new strategy. It is the same old "do anything BUT help the US economy".

Africa is light years away from being civil as the modern world knows it. Heaps of aid has been thrown at parts of that Nation without much sign of improvement in living conditions...they are a nation under dictators or welfare...few have had the opportunity to raise them selves up nor do they seem to want to. As in Afghanistan etc. these are lands ruled for eons by tribes, a culture that only understand rule by Kings or dictators...a thankless battle to improve themselves has gone unanswered...a few rise but the main stay satisfied where they are. A culture as solid as granite....leave Africa to Africans.

I’d like to believe this but Africa is stuck in Fuedalism and clans.

Not happening in my lifetime.

Stoopit too.

Africa is older than well, just about anywhere and they should be as advanced as the rest of the world but they are stuck way, way, way in the past and show no signs of organizing into anything important or relevant to modernity.

How much is this going to cost us so that Obama can use it to get the black vote?

” a desperate obama grasps at anything to help him get re-elected.”

In other news, in hopes of consolidating support from the Big Foot interest groups and clubs, Obama promises to establish Big Foot Forest Reserves in all 57 states...
