GOP Sen. Rubio says deportation leniency is 'welcome news'
The Hill ^ | 06/15/12 01:07 PM ET | Mike Lillis

A GOP senator on the short list to be Mitt Romney's running mate is applauding President Obama's move to forgo deportations for some illegal immigrants.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said the more lenient policy is "welcome news" for those immigrants who will benefit, though he was quick to knock the administration for acting unilaterally.

“Today’s announcement will be welcome news for many of these kids desperate for an answer, but it is a short term answer to a long term problem," the Cuban-American Rubio said in a statement. "And by once again ignoring the Constitution and going around Congress, this short term policy will make it harder to find a balanced and responsible long term one.”

Rubio's comments are a stark contrast to those coming from other Republicans, who are blasting the new rules as a threat to U.S. jobs and possibly illegal.

Rubio's remarks also further complicate the position of GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who took a hard conservative stance against illegal immigrants amid the heat of the GOP primary but is now searching for ways to soften that stance in order to appeal to Hispanic voters, who will be vital in a number of swing states.

What a waste, to see a well-spoken talented young candidate turn to shit like this.

To me, this is just the verbalized platform of the good Bishop (Rubio just let the cat out of the bag too early)

...And to believe the some are trying to convince me with false narratives as to why I should vote for Williard.

...same highway as Zero, but at different speeds.

I can only hope that Zero is doing this now because he knows that SCOTUS is going to rule in favor of AZ 1070.

That was one of my first thoughts when I saw this news today. I definitely believe that either or both of the shills Obama put on the Supreme Court are filling him in on insider court knowledge.

Insider trading of another sort.

This is the long and short of it...and even the first part of his statement is accurate--the people brought here as babies or born here to illegals will welcome this action.

But it is ALSO clearly against the rule of law, and will ultimately hurt these people.

Obamugabe is a sleaze.

I understand exactly what Rubio stated. Rubio is 100% for every illegal eventually getting citizenship.

Rubio is trying to be nuanced. He will fool those who want to believe that Rubio is somehow conservative.

Oh, I understand exactly where Rubio stands and I didn't need this quote to help me. For the past month he has been putting together the "Republican" Dream act with his FL buddy Rivera. Just do a search on here or anywhere for that matter and you will know exactly where he stands - which is for amnesty.

I just called and chewed on someone in Rubio’s office about his support for any of Obama’s announcement. They tried to assurement the media is twisting his point of view.

I told them they needed then to put out a stronger statement and position against this directive, and I asked when Congress was going to grow a backbone and start supporting the Constitution.

It’s simple to understand.

“short-term answer” and “short-term policy” do not equate to a the true definition of violation of the oath of office and violation of the Constitution.

Rubio is toast now.

Wishful thinking I fear.

FOX has been nearly as wild about Rubio as they were about Mittens.

Quite a few freepers were/are on that band wagon as well.

Castro is passed on through his family tree. Even though they left Cuba, Castro rubs off on some families. I have a former friend whose parents are from Cuba. She's like the secret police and thinks everyone is stabbing her in the back and will ALWAYS choose hispanics over other ethnicities. Rubio's office was supposed to be helping me. They have not helped me at all. I guess I need to sound hispanic next time I call them and see if they look at my file again.

Viva Castro! Viva Jeb and Viva Rubio!

Well, he’s just eliminated himself from the veep-stakes, that’s for sure.

Romney won’t be caught in the same room with him now. And to tell the truth, I’m fine with that because he was never on my short list.

Still... I’ve been watching politics a long time and you seldom see anyone blow their own foot off that gracefully — or that completely.

Welcome news, no and yes. Gingrich and Rubio’s thinking on immigration in my view is much more in reality and workable. If Obama had gone to congress and present them with policy on young immigrants who came with their parents under the age of 10, not fault of their own and after 8 years are just as much an American at 18 years old have a window from 18 to 26 years old to establish their contribution to the US productivity and not poverty yes they should be able to work when unemployment is under 6.5%. I could support something like that
