Police in Dorchester County, S.C., used a Taser on a nude 80-year-old woman after she allegedly attempted to attack police with her walking stick. WCSC reports that when police answered a complaint of someone making loud noises in the area, they were met by an elderly woman wearing no clothes on her porch, reportedly hitting the steps of her porch with her cane.
According to police, the woman, who spoke confusingly, began to swing her cane at the officers when police tried to take it away from the nude woman. As police continued to talk the woman out of swinging her cane at them, another officer used his Taser on the womans back. The woman was immediately transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
When police investigated the area, they discovered that the woman, a former tenant, had broken three windows at the property after the owner attempted to give the deposit back to the woman.
WCSC reports that no charges were filed against the woman despite the $250 worth of property damage.
Let her swing, then move in and grab hold of the cane. You can take it from her in short order.
God we sure have a bunch of pussy cops these days.
What self-respecting 20-40 year old cop can’t take a cane from a frail 80 year old woman?
Why not just hit the woman with a hammer? Geez!
Boy she must be a tough 80 yr old woman. what an imbecile
Naked and 80 ? Nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
Police officers are not allowed to treat an 80-year old woman who is menacing them with a cane any differently than they treat a 19-year-old gang member who’s menacing them with a baseball bat.
If they treat the 80-year-old woman differently than the 19-year-old gang member, they risk being accused of racism.
Police are not allowed to use their judgement, lest they be accused of being “judgemental.”
Sorry, but that’s the way it is. We’re being forced to accept the lowest common denominator, and the lowest common denominator is getting lower and lower.
Oughta work just fine with a little old lady with a cane - don't think I'd use the third method though 'cause I wouldn't want to touch her. Yuck!
If she put some clothes on, she wouldn’t have to beat them off with her stick.
and beat the wife (or gay lover) when he got home...
As a former (ret.) police officer, I find this disgusting. If I couldn’t take a cane away from an 80 old without using a Taser, I would have turned in my badge.
Got that right. When I was in corrections (all 145 strapping pounds of me) I routinely restrained larger, heavier inmates without clubbing or any such action.
Sometimes I think modern cops have a taser quota.
Sort of like like attempting to kill a flea with a sledgehammer. Just think of the centuries men have existed without tasers!
Maybe these cops should go down to the local "Rent-a-Pair" for a fitting.
Hmmmm... An 80 year old nude swinger. I wonder where we can get a list of her meds?
sc ping
didn't we all learn from Littleton??....
we need to go back to having a sheriff and a volunteer posse....
I’m with the cops. Now way am I going to grapple with a naked 80-year-old woman. I’m not Laz.
Did you forget the ‘/s’ on that post?
I’ll have to admit if I was the cop I wouldn’t want to “wrestle” with her either.
There was no excuse or necessity for using a taser on this woman.
At her age in her obvious ill health, it could be very dangerous.
If multiple officers cannot subdue an 80 year old woman, clothed or not, they’re pretty pitiful.
Hold on, move over, I'll take care of it after all, I've been practicing on lots of people's little pooches:"

It’s much more fun to watch her shake on the ground. Too bad she did not have a dog to shoot.
But they didn’t HAVE a hammer.
The good news is she has a tryout next week with the Chicago Cubs...
Help out a sheltered suburban housewife: for what part of the body is "porch" the latest slang?
Trust me, ma’am. You don’t want to know.
The woman might have Alzheimers. My aunt was a very genteel southern lady but when she got Alzheimers, she would often leave the house in the middle of the night stark naked. If anybody tried to bring her home, she would fight them and use language that would make a truck driver blush.
Uh-huh. I’ll just leave it at that, then.
Poor old bat, I hope she’ll be okay.
The part that sticks out in front is called a front porch, the part that sticks out in back is called a back porch.
So, “no clothes on her wraparound verandas”? Unless she’s very skinny, of course. Dementia sufferers often don’t eat much.
Yes those are good methods, and new to me. I appreciate the link.
At certain times you may run into someone where the third technique might be advisable, since it can immobilize them and you remain in control until they calm down.
I couldn’t agree more, but I have not been a police officer.
I just think the Taser is far over the top for an older person like that.
It may be a great tool for someone younger who is observably going to be a hard person to handle. For a person that is elderly, you’re probably going to risk hurting them far more than you need to.
It’s just a real shame to handle an older woman like that.
Exactly. Makes you wonder what type of training these officers had, if any at all.
IMO, there are officers out there that think their badge is a license to do whatever they want.
Once again, this seems to be an area where common sense isn’t very common.
Thanks for your comments.
I don’t know... you have to have something to attach them to. ;^)
Thanks for the laugh.
DAMN !!!! Did they shoot her dog too ??!!??
Whatever type agency you have, you have to train your officers to handle things like this. I mean you can have a volunteer force, but if the guys aren’t trained correctly, you’ll still have problems.
Thanks for the reply. In the 80’s I hung out with some old school cops. Their approach was you lost points if it had to go to force. But if it was necessary they would not hesitate.
Just strikes me as a young, inexperienced officer just dying to use his Taser and not wanting to get his uniform dirty.
The Taser was just getting a start in most police forces about the time I retired ... all the classes that included the Taser gave specific instructions that the unit should only be used within a certain age group (18-45) unless the officers thought they were in danger short of the need for deadly force.
I don’t know. If she had a dog they may have Tazered it, and shot the old woman. Gotta change things up once in a while. ;^)
Kidding, sort of...
Oh... hadn’t thought of that. ;^)
And that is as it should be. I have no problem with reasoned force if someone goes out of their way to ask for it.
If the woman had a knife, I might even have agreed that the Taser might have been the best idea here. A cane? Nah!
Thanks for the additional comments. Take care...
Almost sounds that way (the cops) doesn’t it.
I think that 18 to 45 might be expanded in some circumstances, but it strikes me that it’s use might prove fatal in an older person. 80? Come on... I’d sure hate to kill an old lady because she had a cane and I didn’t want her to have it.
Thanks for your comments.
I don't think so.
And I'm not a cop, either.
And you, as well.
LOL!
But I love it for kids especially, because you can't do anything until somebody comes at you. The whole point is to deflect, rotate, transfer their energy into dumping them on the ground or into a joint lock. And there's a lot of tradition including respect for the teacher & other students.
(When my husband would say, "Here! Grab my arm!" all our friends would back away slowly, shaking their heads.)
She was not “nude.” Nude is someone wearing no clothes that is alluring and exciting.
Nekkid means they’re wearing no clothes and “up to no good.” Therefore, she was most likely “nekkid.”
driftdiver...”imbecile” — to whom are you referring?
The cop who tasered an 80 yr old woman. thought that was pretty self evident.
