The Obama Gaffe Machine Keeps Rolling
Townhall.com ^ | June 16, 2012 | John Ransom

If Obama blows his reelection bid, maybe he can apply for a gig with a late night talk show.

Sure, his jokes aren’t that funny, but I presume that most of what he saying now really is just a joke.

And perhaps between now and November the jokes will get much better.

They could get worse, but let’s hope for the sake of our country that they don’t get that much worse.

After months of Obama telling us “All is well, the recovery is finally beginning!” the country faces one of the most dramatic slowdowns in economic activity since 2008-2009.

And it wasn’t like we didn’t predict this- since even before Obama was elected.

Economists are generally sticking with GDP growth rates for the United States of around an anemic 2-2.5 percent now that the inflation gravy train has slowed to a standstill. But if the optimistic forecasts of the same guys who did the math to take the risk out the subprime mortgage market doesn’t make you nervous, let’s try out the dystopian views of our Comedian-in-Chief.

Certainly he’s a comedian.

A poor comedian, for sure, but a jokester none the less.

But that’s not the latest joke.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one:

OBAMA:

This notion that somehow we caused the deficit is just wrong. It's like somebody goes to a restaurant, orders a big steak dinner, martini, all that stuff, and then just as you're sitting down, they leave and accuse you of running up the tab.

Yeah. The rest of us ran up the tab. Sure.

Who’s writing this material? Steve Martin?

Because: Excuuuuuuse me.

At least there was a tab before Obama. Obama now just demands blank checks and then never pays the tab.

Even the room full of Democrats laughed at that one.

Or how about the one he told yesterday where he is now majestically, regally allowing illegal immigrants stay and take jobs from people who reside in the country legally? With unemployment tracking at the highest level since the Great Depression?

That sure was funny to the 14.8 percent- and rising!- of people who are officially counted on the Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment/underemployment rolls.

It was especially funny to Hispanics because Obama’s policy actually just encourages illegal immigrants to register for later deportation.

True fact: Obama used to brag that he deported more illegal immigrants than George W. Bush.

That’s Obama hypocrisy that we all can find quite hilarious.

It’s of the same type of hypocrisy that has Obama passing healthcare reform that does nothing to contain costs, banking reform that does nothing to contain systemic risks, a green jobs program that contains no jobs, a deficit reduction plan…oh yeah.

Biggest joke of all.

Remember last year when the budget deficit played for fifteen minutes of fame on D.C.’s Short Attention Span Theatre?

Obama couldn’t sit down at the table because he wasn’t even at the restaurant.

He was on vacation.

Ha!

Funny, right?

Yeah, Yeah, if it was funny I’d be laughing.

You know it’s funny, not Ha-ha Funny, but strange funny, I’ve watched and done my share of griping since the Jimmy Carter about how the Federal Government is too powerful and intrusive.

But you know Obama really does take the cake, and the knife and the forks and the plates... He’s shown us that the Presidency of the United States can very Easily become a Stalinist style dictatorship through his executive orders and the hundreds if not thousands of Departments, Bureaus and agencies that have been created since FDR.

And as I look at these I see that the framers of the constitution although wise beyond most other men left a few to many loop-holes in the Constitution. The biggest was and is the COMMERCE clause, it’s been primarily through that one avenue that the federal government has grown completely out of proportion. And the Commerce clause allows them to control the citizenry through manipulation of commerce and everything that it touches which is well...everything a citizen does while interacting with each other and all of the various levels of government.

We need to start looking at the Constitution very carefully and figuring out how to amend it so that these loop-holes are closed. A weak government is a good servant and like fire a strong government is a terrible master.

“The biggest was and is the COMMERCE clause, it’s been primarily through that one avenue that the federal government has grown completely out of proportion.”

Was it the commerce clause or self serving, dishonest interpretations of it that started us down the road? If the latter, no law, however wise is proof against Evil. I think the wisdom of the founding fathers can be measured in HOW LONG it took for the rats and cockroaches to nibble away at Freedom.

I agree. The Commerce Clause needs to be amended as does re-vamping the 14th Amendment, to remove the anchor baby bit.

Maybe I’m just grasping at straws....but I think Romney will grow in the job as President and pull a Reagan. He has an opportunity to save our country....and, I think he knows it.

You’re right it did take a long time. The commerce clause, if I remember correctly, was to help in regulating trade between the states so as to prevent tariffs and trade barriers from being erected against each other.

It’s been so twisted out of shape that it looks nothing like that anymore. And yes, it’s because greedy men, greedy for money, greedy for power over other men and women have done that twisting.

Obviously John doesn't shop at the grocery store.

I observed this past week that the 36 oz jar of Great Value mixed nuts at Wally had shrunk to a 26 oz jar with no decrease in price. That amounts to a 38% increase. Standstill inflation my ass!

While this post is off topic I think I will go ahead any way.

Let's take a look at the historical time line of the “Great Depression”.

The first major event was the stock market crash of 1929 when there was “a major correction” to the market. Millions were lost and the biggest losers were the small investors who had invested their life savings trying to break into the upper class.

The final major event happened in 1932 when there was a run on the banks and unemployment went through the roof.

Why this history lesson?

Well, lets take a look at the last 4 years.

Notice any similarities in the time line, sequence of events, and who got hurt the most?

The human animal has advanced exactly zero in the last 70 to 80 years. Our actions and reactions to the financial environmental changes aren't that different from our grandparents/great grandparents. The laws that were enacted to prevent a replay of the “Great Depression of 1932” have been ignored/by passed with much the same results.

My bottom line is the “Great Depression of 2012/2013”’s final act will begin in Europe (like 1932) and quickly spread through out the rest of the world (like 1932) and will take a long time to recover. Hopefully the “Great Depression of 2012/2013” will not recover like the “Great Depression of 1932” with the rise of extreme nationalism and a world wide war.

Having said that, remember we as a society and overall, aren't that different than our grandparents and great grandparents.

Talblack has it right, the founders did a fantastic job, I doubt that it will ever be equaled but no man can write a constitution that will stop corrupt men from finding an excuse to ignore it. We have a government now which is largely composed of people who have no problem swearing to uphold the constitution while they are plotting various ways to trample on it. The founders knew that this would probably happen one day and they told us what the remedy is, it is not their fault if we fail to use the remedy. Tinkering with the constitution now would be an exercise in futility, we don’t even pretend to follow it any longer so you could just write, “DO AS YOU DAMNED WELL PLEASE” and the result would be the same.

Actually we are different. In most ways that really matter we are less educated, more gullible and have a MUCH shorter attention span. I would say they were our betters in more ways than we are their betters.

Rush has alluded to this. Has said that Mitt told him in a face to face that even if he's a one term President he's going to gut the federal bureaucracy because he believes we are on the brink of total collapse. This includes massive entitlement reform. We'll see?

The Commerce clause is actually a very modest enumerated power, designed to insure that trade would not be hindered when crossing governmental boundaries: "To regulate commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian tribes." A natural function of a central government.

That's it. That's all it is. Clearly, the fault lies with the succession of mendacious justices who have used this tiny tail to wag the behemoth dog of national economic life, inflating and distorting the clause far beyond recognition.

Think of Obamacare: What does the coercion of individuals to buy insurance have to do with "foreign Nations, the several States, or Indian tribes?"
