US enlists Britain's help to stop ship 'carrying Russian attack helicopters' to Syria

The MV Alaed, a Russian-operated cargo vessel, is currently thought to be sailing through the North Sea after allegedly picking up a consignment of munitions and MI25 helicopters - known as "flying tanks" - from the Russian Baltic port of Kaliningrad.

Washington, which last week condemned Moscow for continuing to arm the Syrian regime, has asked British officials to help stop the Alaed delivering its alleged cargo by using sanctions legislation to force its London-based insurer to withdraw its cover.

Under the terms of the current European Union arms embargo against Syria, imposed in May last year, there is a ban on the "transfer or export" of arms and any related "brokering" services such as insurance. Withdrawal of a ship's insurance cover would make it difficult for it legally to dock elsewhere and could force it to return the cargo to port.

A blockade is an act of war, yes?

Really? Maybe they should make Obama publicly acknowledge that the Falklands belong to the UK first.

Evacuate all Christians and let the remaining muslims have at each other till there is one left standing.

Give him some hummus and tell him to go to Iraq.

THIS is amazing.

The British Navy is going to block a Putin military cargo vessel?

That’ll be the day.

Replay of the Cuban Missile Crisis...NOT!

re: “Really? I can surely see Putin worrying about his insurance policies...lol”

Exactly. This is Obama standing tall against Russian aggression?? Withdrawing insurance for the weapons??

What a joke we are to Putin. He’s already got Obama’s number and knows he could do anything he wants and our government will stand by and let him do it - except maybe Obama might send Putin a very stern letter.

On the other hand, if Obama actually sent some of our ships to block Putin’s what would Obama do if we found it?

Suppose this ship accidentally disappeared in the middle of the ocean due to a massive internal explosion? That would be a real shame.

I guess this is what Hillary called "smart power." Lots of luck with that Hil. I'm sure the Brits will want to act like your bitches just because you tell them to. Especially after three and a half years of obama's racist hateful insults. What squat we have for a gubbermint.

That would be a shame. In a rational world we would support Russia with Syria in return for Russia supporting us with Iran.

Not always. In the modern world, the UN is often the arbiter of when a blockade is an act of war or not.

The U.N. is not an arbiter of anything in my world.

Those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.

Hitler was selling tanks and planes (which he claimed he didn’t have) to one side of each neighboring country that was involved in civil wars. His goal was complete takeover.

The US and Britain were aware of it, yet didn’t want to get involved, and possibly start WWII.

You know the rest of the story.

OK.

But in the real world they have been given that power by many countries. This was the rationale for the Korean “police action” that was not a “war”.

I think the army should send in Obama and Hitlery to handle it. The Brits really don't need to draw Russia's rage upon themselves to please the boy king. Russia has already made noises of using nukes on any country that messes with them and Putin would do it. He's as vicious and sick as Obama. I think Obama is community organizing chaos and violence for all his enemies - which most of us would see as our allies.
