Wolves maul a woman to death at a zoo in Sweden

A WOMAN zookeeper was mauled to death by a pack of wolves as she fed them in their enclosure.

Eight of the wolves are thought to have surrounded and attacked the woman, who was in her 30s.

Her body was found by a colleague — but the snarling pack would not let anyone near her. Eventually brave zoo workers formed a human chain and rushed the wolves, forcing them back.

Jan Tengeborg, who organised the attempt to recover the body, said: “We couldn’t get into the enclosure because the wolves clearly did not want us in there. You can’t just walk right into a wolf pack.”

No one witnessed the attack so it is not yet clear exactly what triggered it. The dead woman has not been named.

The same pack attacked TV naturalist Arne Weise when Kolmarden Wildlife Park opened in Braviken Bay, Sweden, in 2007.

He said yesterday: “We have to stop interacting so closely with wolves. It is wrong, the risk is too great. We must recognise they are dangerous animals.”

Armed police were called to the zoo but did not open fire. Mats Höggren, director at Kolmarden — where earlier this year a girl of 15 was bitten on the leg by a wolf — said: “This is is terrible.

“She was alone in the wolves’ yard but had contact with a colleague via two-way radio.

“The colleague thought she had been gone longer than usual, so investigated and found her body.” He said the animals would not be put down.

They’re eating the rabbit infestation. Also apparently the “endangered” birds that nest on the beach, which is why the department was trying to hunt them, but they have no idea how to hunt coyotes. Especially coyotes that live in the area and are extremely well-fed, even if they aren’t crossbreeds of some type.

I hunted out of Reserve, drop camp set up East of Snow Lake. The rest on foot or horseback.

Sadly enough, roughly 300,000 acres either burned or burning near and around Whitewater Baldy right now.

Always rifle for me. Drew a permit 11 years running. Nothing the last 18.

Learned to keep the rifle within arm's reach, the .45 on my hip-along with a big knife.

There are numerous large creatures out there capable of killing and eating you; especially along the Middle Fork of the Gila. I had fun for the most part. Hope you did, as well. Only brought 2 big elk out of there in all those years. That is a LOT of work.

They gave up. One day it was raining so of course they didn’t hunt, and then they were supposed to hunt all weekend but they closed up and left on Thursday.
Not that they knew what they were doing anyway.

We have too many wolves here along the Upper Yukon in Ak. I took a ride down the road outta our rural community and saw 2 then another one about 5 miles away from the first two. Couldn't get a shot at any of them. The second one was walkin up the road when it saw the truck, was like a blur, off road in the woods outta sight in like half a second. We do get some come fall when the caribou come through as the wolves and grizz tend to follow the migrating caribou. ONe spot we have gotten a few, a pull off along the road. I throw some bait out along the road maybe 100 yards from where I'm parked. Then I sit on a box in trk bed leaning over the cab. Wolves stroll down the road every night about 8 pm, they stay in area cause the caribou cross there. WE have gotten a few right there, as they stop when they smell the rotten fish & meat and we get a shot off. You can run them down with snowmachines in deep new snow in the right places like on an open lake and cut them off if they try and get to cover. They actually tire out quick and will slow down and when you hit them, they will actually try grabbing front cowling of snowmachine. Most times they are stunned when you dust them and then we shoot them with AR's. Everybody around here is trying to get the wolf numbers down as they are wiping the moose and young caribou calves out. Most effective and practical way is with heli-control, but even then they wise up quick and stay in the trees. Palin was the only governor I;ve seen up here with enough guts to challenge the wolf luvers and kill some wolves with arial control.

My neighbor had to run out in his driveway and shoot a wolf that had his springer spaniel by the neck. wolf wouldn't let go even when my neigbor was 5 foot from wolf, neighbor sprayed blood all over the snow. We have had wolves get into our garbage cans early winter at 3 am. Also every couple years have young pups walk up our lane after they've been kicked out by their mum. Those young wolves are scared, hungry, and don't know what to do but eventually, they pack up or die. Those young wolves aactually hang around people picking off all the cats & dogs and local rabbits they can. My son would call them in early september at school bus stop with mouth squealer. Wolf would stay in woods on other side of road and look the kids over, scared to try anything.

We like having wolves around, just not too many of them and if they stay across the river.

I don’t know much about the subject but my youngest brother is an expert deer hunter with decades of experience and a total kill count that has to be in the hundreds by now. He has described to me the experience of sitting on a deer stand and listening to a pack of Coyotes take down and kill an adult deer. He could not actually see them because of brush but he could hear clearly, he says they are hunting in packs like wolves, this is on federal game management land in South Carolina. Coyotes that he has killed in the area look like pure Coyotes, not hybrids but he did say that he has seen some that look very large so who knows, maybe a hybrid coydog or coywolf could lead a pack, I don’t know.

We used to listen to a pack of coyotes at night while fishing in the Texas panhandle in the late 60’s. They would run up and down on the other side of a dune just a few yards from us, yapping for hours.

A lady on Padre Island had her chihuahua pulled through her fence last summer by a coyote. They are very brazen in the Corpus Christi Padre Island area from what I hear.

The local Police shot and killed a coyote on the courthouse lawn early on a Sunday morning in my city about 23 years ago. They brought me the carcass and it appeared to be a pure coyote weighing around 80-90 pounds. It had been eating well on the local housecat and small dog population. We live in NE Mississippi and now have nutria living along the creeks that go through the city.

Here in western Mass we've seen packs of 20-30+ hunting deer nearly every winter since we've been in this house (tens-of-thousands of pristine acres abutting the completely undeveloped Quabbin Reservoir watershed).

The trills, shrieks and ululations as they close on the usually hamstrung victim sound both hysterical and primal. Goosebump central.

I did have one dog injured by a rattlesnake, but it was 5 dead from grand-dad's .38 (snakes that is) to one injured dog.

And she got into a porcupine... Not a real bright dog.

But one culls.
