Vanity question: What happens if Holder is held in contempt of Congress?

Posted on 06/20/2012 9:05:54 AM PDT by Maceman

Any Freeper experts out there who can answer this question?

What actually are the resulting scenarios if Holder is held in contempt?

Does he have to step down?

Can he actually be arrested and jailed? I'm not aware that Congress has such an enforcement power.

So as a practical matter, will a contempt finding make any difference at all, other than in the election jockeying by both sides?

They will threaten to take away his birthday, no desert for a week, and they will think ill of him for 3-4 hours; then they will be called racists and will drop everything, appologize and promote him to Executive Secret Senior Attorney General.

Once he’s voted in contempt you won’t see him testifying on behalf of the DOJ anymore.

What happens is that Revs Al and Jesse will call out the mob and demand that anyone in Congress who voted to hold Holder in contempt be impeached and flayed alive for being racist.

I think this actually opens him to criminal prosecution, but I am not sure. (To all: I think Mace should get a serious answer, and we all could use a refresher on the implications.)

Not a darn thing. O’bie will grant him some sort of immunity from everything including malaria and shingles. Sick and sad. Can they hold uncle o’bie in contempt? Probably not. Everything’s “sealed”.

Reading the letter from Holder to Obama, asking for "Executive Privilege".

(In Brief)"I say that you can grant "Executive Privilege" because of ..blah blah blah..." So you should grant me Executive Privilege"...

Does this make ANY sense???? Is the fox guarding the henhouse or what???

Folks, Holder is a lying crook.

Reid is a senile ugly lying crook.

Pelosi is a bitchy ignorant ugly lying crook.

Does anyone even imagine that anything will come of this?

Congress will find Holder in contempt and go on vacation next week.

They will not return to DC until October just before the elections and they will focus on matters that “take precedence at this time”

” I think Mace should get a serious answer”

You are absolutely correct, so I will try.
Nothing will happen. Holder is a high placed government official. Plus, he is black. Only the little people are prosecuted for things like Lying to Congress, Contempt of Congress. Think Roger Clements. Even though we had a little fun with it,
I honestly think the first answer from Hodar is correct.

If Eric Holder is held in Contempt of Congress, the issue goes the US Attorney for DC for prosecution.

Unfortunately, his boss is, well, Eric Holder.

In the unlikely event Holder is convicted of contempt of Congress the punishment is up to $1000 fine and up to 12 months in prison.

Bingo.

But thing have changed a bit now that Obama has given Executive Privilege to the documents.

It is an open admission that the evidence involved goes right to the White House.

Now what the scrotumless republicans will do about that is uncertain, but my guess is they will bark a lot and bite damned little.

Or, if it happens without Holder directing it to happen, then Holder can direct Machen to do nothing.

Then we find out if anyone in the Justice Department has any honor. If there are such people. Holder won't be able to enforce his orders. If not, they'll all hang together (to avoid hanging separately).

That's just my humble, uninformed opinion.

Considering the late date, it is likely that any citation referred by the full House to the U.S. Attorney would not be disposed of before the election. If the election goes right, it would be handled under a new administration and possibly a new U.S. Attorney.

They can send him to jail until he agrees to satisfy their demands, just like a contempt of court. Worked for the “Hollywood 10”, why would Holder be any different?

According to the NY Post:

“Then what? Technically, the citation goes to the US attorney for DC to present to a grand jury. Usually, lawyers for the White House and Congress huddle and work out some accommodation — but relations may be too poisonous for that now.

Holder also has the option to simply not prosecute himself — which would surely set off a firestorm, as would any attempt by him or the president to assert executive privilege at this late date.”

IOW, nothing happens, and the media won’t let America know it is happening.

They can send him to jail until he agrees to satisfy their demands, just like a contempt of court.

The House of Commons had that power, when the Constitution was adopted, but the House of Representatives has not been that high handed. It asks the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia to bring a contempt proceeding in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Of course the US Attorney works for... Attorney General Eric Holder.
