On behalf of my Church and my position as a Catechist I sincerely apologize that you were so badly catechized and formed. I only ask that you do not give up on God because of the failings of men.
Peace be with you
1 Corinthians 14:27-28 (ESV)
27 If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret. 28 But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God.
It means you have no logic or brilliance to baffle us with so you resort to some foreign words.
BB,
At least you admit that this scripture passage is foreign to you - and in so doing you highlight your handicap to understanding God’s Word.
I fixed it for you. There's nothing quite like the feeling of superiority , is there? You do know what the Bible says about pride don't you?
Your misuse of ‘Peace be with you’ is getting rather obvious, but you negelected to use your smarm with your nasty little post to BipolarBob. I guess even you recognize when you’ve gone too far in your self-righteousness.
The words words, logic and brilliance are not mine by the Lord's. They are Matthew 6:11 in the original Koine Greek. I am truly sorry that they are foreign to you.
Peace be to you.
The words words, logic and brilliance are not mine but the Lord's. They are Matthew 6:11 in the original Koine Greek. I am truely sorry that they are foreign to you.
Peace be to you.
The punctuation is not in the ‘Koine Greek’. Do you feel the Holy Spirit cannot unfold to a none Greek reader the meaning He offers even in an Emglish translation, with punctuation added? ... And when you toss little digs into your posts then close with ‘Peace be to you’ it is telling of the sort of smug mind we are exchanging with.
Wrong again, NL. Matthew 6:11 is not foreign to me. You might back up a few verses though to verse 7. I've actually been to a Catholic service m(or two). Much of it is orchestrated. And that part about vain repetitions, you might want to do three Hail Marys over that one.) But let's get to the crux of the matter, shall we? I don't read Koine Greek and you do.( So let's skip right on down to Matthew Ch.7 vs3,4,5. I have multiple translations, commentaries and other devices to "help" me decipher meanings.
Peace be to you.
“Et cum spirito tuo”
Do you know what the means?
BB,
So, you admit that you can’t possibly understand the original Greek. A good start.
Lets walk this back.
That means that others have interpreted what this portion of God’s word (which was written in Greek) means.
Very interesting.
Amazing.
It sort of puts a big dent in the axe you are trying to grind.
I do not accept that Scripture is sufficiently self-interpreting to prevent error or heresy.
I presented the Koine Greek to show that the "daily bread" is not a supplication or petition for mere food or food that will perish, it is a request for the "superSUBSTANTIAL" bread of the Eucharist. Epiousios ( επιούσιος ) is a unique Greek word a hapax legomenon (a Greek phrase meaning 'a word used only once'). It has been synonymous with the Eucharist from the earliest records of the Catholic Liturgy in the second century and has been discussed extensively by Early Church Fathers including Origen. St. Cyprian and St. John Chrysostom.
My blessing is not a "subtle dig, but a sincere wish for you to continue to receive the peace of Christ.
Pax Vobis.
I have not used that phrase here.
Perhaps you will retract?
Father Breaux used to tell me to never use Pax vobiscum unless my heart was in it with humility rather than zeal.
Tell me, friend, does doctrine save or faith? Does reading in Greek save or belief in the Lord Jesus Christ? Does the Church illuminate Scripture or the Holy Spirit? Saul of Tarsus was in error. Did superior doctrine turn him to God or the Holy Spirit?
Peace be to you.
I'm curious, what do you suppose Jesus wrote ont he ground when the crowd of hypocrites came to stone the woamn taken in adultery?
And I will apologize that I misread your screen name when I meant to address natural law for misusing the phrase/blessing. So now, I apologize for my mistake, on that point.
I'm a poor person. I'm without an axe. Axeless. You sidestepped all of the points I made. I'm seeing the trend on this thread that when it gets "hard", we just ignore it. Three "Hail Marys" for you too.) As penance, go read what the Bible says about pride. Read it in Greek if you wish.)
Neither, we are saved by unmerited Grace. Faith is essential, but it is an act of the will. All are called to Salvation, there is a plan for Salvation unique to each of us, and there is sufficient Grace for all to be saved. Faith is our response to the call to Salvation.
"Does reading in Greek save or belief in the Lord Jesus Christ."
God calls all persons to seek Him, to know Him, to love Him and to serve Him in this life and the next. He has commanded us to;
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age." - Mt 28:19-20
All Christ's faithful are called to hand it on from generation to generation, by professing the faith, by living it in fraternal sharing, and by celebrating it in liturgy and prayer (Acts 2:42). For me to better accomplish this requires a more perfect knowledge of Jesus and His Gospel than I can gain from studying only errant English translations.
Peace be with you
