Romney tells Latinos he will seek 'long-term solution' to immigration

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Mitt Romney offered a family-friendly approach to the nation's immigration troubles in his first general-election outreach to Latino voters, but the modest steps that he sketched underscored the political pull-and-tug the issue has become for the presumed Republican presidential nominee.

His more moderate tone Thursday on a number of side issues contrasted with the tougher stance he took during the GOP primaries. Yet in outlining the path he would take as president, he declined to take on the larger and thornier problem of the 11 million men, women and children already in the country illegally.

Speaking to the same audience of Latino officials that President Obama will address Friday, Romney said he wouldn't "settle for stopgap measures" like the policy Obama announced last week to prevent the deportation of hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants. Instead, he said he would work with lawmakers of both parties to "build a long-term solution."

"I will prioritize measures that strengthen legal immigration and make it more transparent and easier. And I will address the problem of illegal immigration in a civil and resolute manner," he told the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials. "We may not always agree, but when I make a promise to you, I will keep it."

So instead of bashing Obama for not securing the borders and pandering to hispanics...Rino Romney wants to help out illegals and is bashing Obama for not doing enough for them. Yikes! Not passing immigration reform was the best thing Obama did in his first term Romney.

Romney is one of those schlubs who refused to acknowledge the difference between legal and extra-legal immigration.

Mitt might want to ask his friend Juan McCain just how much pandering to the ethnic greviance lobby translated into votes in 2008.

There is a simple and long-term solution to immigration:

GO HOME!.............................

“Long-term solution” means “Wait until I get elected, and then I’ll give you all the amnesty you want.”

So..again we have the GOP trading in 30% of the Hispanic vote for many more conservative and Reagan Democrats who will stay home instead of voting for a Pro-Illegal Liberal GOPer...

Americans want the border sealed, and the Illegals deported. No Amnesty

Why doesn’t he say “THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO FIX IMMIGRATION, WHAT THE PRESIDENT HAS DONE IS ILLEGAL (according to...and it is!)”. He should be NAILING Obama on ILLEGALLY helping the ILLEGALS ... this is amazing how the Romney campaign is missing this opportunity. (Should we get used to it?)\

DoughtyOne laments there is no short term fix to Romney.

I wish like hell the GOP convention would refuse to seat Romney. Sadly, it’s a GOPe convention.

“Family-friendly”? It’s “MEXICAN family-friendly” NOT “American family-friendly.”

Reagan already tried a "long term solution to the immigration problem" back in 1986.

He also got talked into trying a "long term solution to deficit spending." Same year, as a matter of fact.

Both turned out in exactly the same way. You see the results - today - all around you.

I’m for a long term solution to immigration. Repeal the 14th; build a really good, solid wall and guard it; jail any employer who hires illegals; make it illegal for illegals to rent, buy a house, get utilities, have a bank account, receive government aid, attend school, receive medical attention, drive a car. You won’t have to deport them. Make it hot enough and take away the feeding trough, they’ll deport themselves.

We have a lot of States right now doing all they can to attract illegals, so the 14th is not the big stick it once was, unless the people clean up their legislatures.

My primer for for ANY republican running for office when asked about immigration.

Just look them directly in the eye and say the following: “LEGAL immigration GOOD! ILL-LEGAL immigration BAD BAD BAD!!!! “

That is ALL we should ever have to say on that matter.

If the press doesn’t like it they can go pound sand.
