MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A Minneapolis man says he was beaten by police as he left a downtown nightclub.
Zachary King says he was walking to his car when police noticed his gun in his waist band. He claims he told police he had a permit to carry, but they still attacked him.
King suffered a concussion after five officers beat him on Fathers Day night. King says video of the assault was taken by a bystander. He says it all started when police noticed a bulge near his waist band.
I have my conceal and carry, and its my gun. And soon as I said that he grabbed me by my neck, slammed me against the wall, snatched my gun out the holster, started waving it in the air saying gun, gun, gun, said King.
King says he made no sudden moves, nor said anything disrespectful.
Then four other officers just came and slammed me on my face, one of the officers had me by my head just banging it on the sidewalk, he said.
King says officers eventually went for his back pocket and his wallet to get his weapons permit.
And he goes like this to show them that I have my card and they stopped beating me, said King.
King was then taken to the hospital before his last stop, jail.
Kings attorney, Mike Patton, says his client was arrested, jailed and not charged for recording police back in April that allegedly showed abuse of power.
He has zero criminal record, zero, said Mike Patton.
He was also acquitted of manslaughter in 2008 after his pit bull mauled to death his 7-year-old son.
It takes a lot of courage to come forward in this type of situation. He doesnt want to see this happen to other people, said Patton.
Patton says police had no probable cause to do anything to his client.
He says he is working with internal affairs and hopes that street video from Minneapolis Police cameras will back up his clients claim.
We reached out to Minneapolis Police for comment on Kings accusations. Police say because there is an open civilian review authority investigation, and they cannot comment.
Does the TX law also require those establishments to allow firearms to be checked in somewhere? Indiana does.
If you go to a casino (boats) in Indiana, you are required to “check-in” your weapon at no charge. You go to a window, unload and present your firearm and are given a receipt. Upon pick-up of the firearm, you are required to show your license.
Reading the headline, I thought the police wanted his gun and were trying to steal it!......................
They must have been gay cops.................
There are three sides to every story: Your side, my side, and the truth. Before coming to a conclusion I want to hear the police side.
I also really have to question the judgment of someone that as I said takes a firearm into a night club and has it visible in any way.

Are you kidding me? Cops shot a white guy in cold blood in front of a Wal-Mart because he was carrying a legal firearm, so the fact that this black guy survived his encounter with the police is kind of amazing. There’s nothing else unusual or surprising about this story, cops have been harassing and assaulting law-abiding CCW holders for decades.
That is not the law in Minnesota. The restriction is on the alcohol in the system, not mere presence at a bar.
The same Minneapolis police have virtually ignored recent attacks by gangs of Black youth on a whites near downtown Minneapolis.
Why is it a ticket to get slammed? Shouldn’t the officers need to be called to the establishment? Let alone just give the guy a ticket and he can go to court to fight it. But why should anyone get slammed to the ground because they are CCW?
I agree, I dont buy this story
The guy is black. Since it doesn’t point out that the cops are white I can only assume the cops are black so it’s not racist. That means it’s nothing but police retribution for video taping them.
It is frightening that law enforcement is getting more and more aggressive with citizens.
Raiding wrong homes and pointing weapons at the heads of innocent occupants/kids.
Taped beatings of suspects in handcuffs, police shooting innocent civilians with concealed carry.
Little worse than official oppression by those entrusted to protect and serve.
I don't see what you find hard to believe about it. A YouTube search will show you hundreds of videos of cops assaulting people for no reason, sometimes for something as simple as holding a video camera.
And experience has demonstrated that many cops hate CCW, even in places that have had a licensing system in place for decades, so how much more would they hate it after being handed a defeat with a new CCW licensing system that they fought against? How angry do you think they'd be that a black man - the very reason why carry and gun licensing systems and bans were originally created in the first place - could legally carry a gun? Especially a black man who had previously filmed them breaking the law?
So what do you find hard to believe?
I cant believe you all missed this. His last name is King! If you are black and your last name is King -well it is just your Karma that you are going to be beat up by the police!
I’m not saying it’s right.
i do now.
Texas does not account for checking in firearms. Generally, it's "leave it in your car" or "leave it at home if you plan on drinking."
