Updates here from the Co Springs Gazette: http://www.gazette.com/articles/fire-140851-highway-waldo.html

Fire map here: http://inciweb.org/incident/2929/

The main fire dropped embers quite a ways to the west and started spot fires in neighborhoods. Very dry conditions have made those spread into houses - now it seems to be self-sustaining.

Prayers for all.

I sure hope that neighborhood doesn’t burn. All I can think about is years of investment and work burning..and the family pictures..horrible. Glad you are safe.

Note that you list a bunch of “ologies” in your causes.

Note that an “ology” is a human field of study.

this reminds me of the history channel (?) “it could happen next” or something like that about a wild fire that takes out austin texas.

they just evacuated garden of the gods areas (the park had already been closed). this is surreal.

The issues of causes will not stay ignored, but the fire fight must be the focus now. The wind from reports is still southeast and houses and structures along with large specimen trees standing exposed in neighborhoods are going to throw large embers higher than ground brush would.

The fight will go all night long. A wind shift or reduction is my hope and prayer. You guys in the Springs are going to have a bad morning I’m afraid.

That picture, as horrible as it is, does not do proper justice to what is happening there right now.

If any of you saw the disaster epic, “2012” with John Cusack, you will remember a scene where, as they are approaching Hawaii to refuel, all they see is Hawaii on fire.

That is pretty much how north suburban Colorado Springs looks tonight.

I'm not all that far from Flagstaff, so we're keeping an eye on that one. Looks like, right now, it's heading towards Boulder.

Sister-in-law had a small place in Green Mountain Falls before she died. It is a wonderful area.

And a bit odd to single out one of the most religious cities in the country, suggesting poor aim.

Buddygirl's comments aside, and what may or may not be a judgment from God aside...

1 Peter 4.17

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

We’d usually pull into Green Mountain Falls to get a Coke or Iced Tea before getting into the Springs.

Your sister-in-law lived in a great place.

How awful.

Living in California, we see this all the time. It's the worse experience you can imagine with a fire storm heading your way. I spent some time fighting wild-fires in my youth. Personally, I'd rather face erratic tornadoes than a wild fire. At least they go away after their devastation and skip over homes and if prepared, you can duck into a ground shelter. Wild fires keep going and going, and once in their line, all homes go up.

BTW, where is Obama on this disaster? Oh right, campaigning for dollars. I remember Bush declaring one of the CA wild fires as a national emergency and sending out FEMA. It was just brush, but burning down lots of homes as is this CO fire.

Thanks for the insight as to that area. Prayers for you and yours and all in the region.
Disasters like this were slow to be know in prior ages. The biggest and worst fire in Minnesota was largely unreported because it occurred the same day as the Chicago Fire. In the video-electronic-Internet age we have live feeds to Tanning Booth inpropriaties.

I worked in Woodland Park, have family near there, and this is horrible news! My daughter lives in Castle Rock, and she just told me the smoke is unbelievable!

(BTW - you live near Flagstaff? Did you know there is now a fire in Cottonwood?)
