(AP) — The Reno City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved tax breaks to coax Apple Inc. to open two facilities in northern Nevada as part of a $1 billion investment over 10 years.

The City Council agreed to the city's portion of a deal that includes $89 million in county, city and state tax abatements. Analysts say that's a 79 percent reduction in Apple's tax burden.

The Cupertino, Calif., company said it will build a 350-acre data center east of Sparks to house servers for its cloud computing service, and a business and purchasing center in Reno's Tessera District, a blighted area on the northeastern side of downtown.

Stop making the machines in China.

And I’ll be impressed.

Stop making the machines in China.

Apple isn't alone, most manufacturers are having their components built in China. It's a overtaxed and over-regulation problem. Kudos to Apple for at least building some infrastructure here in the states, like North Carolina, Texas, Nevada and Oregon. As well as in California where they're building a huge new campus, only because that's where they have roots.

I just flew back from Austin, Texas where they build the A5 CPU for their IOS devices.

Looks like Apple wised up and is moving this center out
of Bankrupt CA to NV.

I believe it's a new additional facility, not anything replacing a California center. Indeed, they're building a huge facility in their hometown of Cupertino, California to replace the older campus.

Here’s a link to pictures of the new California campus they’re building:

At least one U.S. company is building and hiring in the U.S.A., despite all the overregulation and taxes.

Whoops, I meant to say in addition to their older campus. The new facility will not replace theIr older headquarters.

I think that Sparks, Nevada was designed to be a tax-free warehouse haven. That was back in the 70’s.

Tell that to the component manufacturers - they are made in China. Apple doesn’t make hard drives, circuit boards, capacitors, memory, etc. Component makers do - if they were made here, then it would make a lot more sense to assemble Apple computers here in the USA.

But with unions, taxes, Obamanomics, etc. - a machine that currently costs $1199 would cost $6,999! (in other words - the component costs would be more than the current retail price).
