Matthews Slimes: John Roberts Doesn't Want to be Like Slave Judge Behind Dred Scott
Newsbusters ^

Posted on 06/27/2012 6:07:03 PM PDT by chessplayer

According to liberal MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts being the fifth vote to strike down Obamacare would make him the "second Roger Taney," the Civil War-era high judge who delivered the majority opinion in the Dred Scott Case and upheld the Fugitive Slave Act.

Anything from two days ago and beyond might be blamed on that inscrutable comment from Rush about Roberts and what to expect from him.

That convinces me that one of the Lefty justices has leaked to the Bobo administration. And it's bad news for Bobo.

Taney was a Jacksonian Democrat

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Taney a Democrat? As weren't almost ALL of the anti-Negro politicians back then . . . and still today? Maybe Matthews should study a little history before flapping his gums.

How he could possibly equate anything with Roberts to Taney is beyond me.

I think it’s because they already know Roberts has upheld Obamacare (i.e., the death knell of the U.S. as we know it). They are going to boast that all the tough talk these past few days, from Dear Leader on down, is what cowed him into doing “the right thing”.

Mark my words, we’ll hear a bunch of talking heads over the weekend saying something to the effect of “clearly the court heeded the president’s words.”

How he connects the dots between this and slavery is beyond me. But then again, they are playing the skin color card on absolutely everything.

In the real world, he’d be about as employable as Obama.

Neither of them even knows what the real world is.

I heard that as well. But he immediately clammed up. Wonder if Justice Thomas (who officiated at one of Rush's weddings) passed some good info to him.

they need a fall guy when it gets overturned....hasn’t Roberts battled with obama in the past???

further:

“a friend of mine, who is a fellow Roman Catholic said, he does want to be the second Roger Taney. Roger Taney, of course, was a Roman Catholic who upheld the Fugitive Slave Law back before the Civil War and was villainized throughout history because of that.”

i guess Sissy’s friend isn’t a real good Catholic considering the Church is taking obamacare to court and outwardly protesting obamacare...

Lots of short term drama but within a year ObamaCare is simply replaced by some form of RomneyCare. Probably a slight improvement over ObamaCare therefore I will be grateful for any measley crum the DEM-RINOs decide to toss me.

Perhaps Roberts did make a deal to rule against SB1070 in exchange for his vote against the individual mandate, Kagan blabbed, the libs took the AZ ruling and now they're trying at the last minute to get the whole enchilada.

Wouldn't be the first time they welched on a deal.

Its fun to speculate but tomorrow will be a nailbiter, for sure.

He was quite coy about the source and in his comments. But it was along the lines of don’t be shocked about what you see from Roberts.

“He switched sides to vote with the libs on the AZ Immigration Law”

There was an explanation given as to why he did that - wish I had saved the post.

If I’m understanding (the best I can remember), it was due to the court actually being divided 4 to 4, and if Roberts hadn’t switched sides, Arizona would have lost completely for some reason.

Even for a news anchor on a minor, insignificant cable network, Matthews is an outrageous buffoon. If MSNBC would dump him, they might pick up a few viewers, prisons, mental institutions, old folks homes, nothing that would justify big advertizing bucks, but better than broadcasting into empty space.

Hmm, I guess because Sotomayor recused herself, it could have been 4 to 4 with no majority. Then, the prior court ruling striking the whole thing down would stand?

Taney was appointed by Jackson. Earlier he had been Attorney General and Secretary of the Treasury under Jackson.

He was vilified mainly for the Dred Scott decision and for some of the reasoning in his decision, but the fact that he was a Catholic in a period of intense anti-Catholicism was probably an element in the hostility he faced. I think he was no longer a slaveholder at the time of the Dred Scott decision. He served through most of Lincoln's Presidency.

I have been saying that for weeks!

The Supreme Court has always been for taking away Peoples Rights, Hell in Dred Scott they declared him to be a Non-Person and Lets not forget the Legalization of Child Murder in Roe v. Wade.

The Supreme Court has never truly worked correctly, even since the days of the Founding. The people they are suppose to oversee Ignore them, Andrew Jackson told them to Piss off during the trail of tears. But they have supreme power over the citizenry (see the Dred Scott case above).
