Chris Christie: New Jersey to be ‘Romney country’

“going to be Mitt Romney Country,” New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie believes his state will support Mitt Romney’s bid for president as much as he does.

Standing alongside the Republican presidential candidate, Christie told donors at a $50,000-a-plate fundraising dinner on Tuesday night in Woodbridge, N.J., that the state is “going to be Mitt Romney Country,” according to the Boston Herald.

Christie reminded the audience that few politicians endorsed Romney earlier than he did, in October.

“There were many at the time who were still standing on the sidelines, sitting on the fence, waiting for something to hit them, yeah, and I did on behalf of Governor Romney, that’s right,” he said.

Romney called Christie, a potential running mate, “an extraordinary leader.”

“I was really hoping someone would heckle him so I could watch him go to town here, but you know better, don’t you?”

Not true. You don’t like him. Speak for yourself.

We DO NOT need two Yankees on the Presidential ticket. A Romney-Christie ticket fits the stereotypes of Northeasterners south of the Potomac ans west of the Alleghenies: the country club, Ivy League educated type (Romney) and someone who looks and sounds like a character from the Sopranos (Christie). If the GOP wants to win Ohio, Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico, Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia, this ticket won't work. It may help the GOP in southeast Florida and the Philadelphia area, but you could get a similar bounce with Rubio, who is not a Yankee.

If the GOP wanted to win, they probably could do very nicely with a Gary Johnson / Ron Paul ticket.

Neither of them are the "ideal" candidate, but such a ticket would signal the GOP is serious about the economy and about reigning in government. Johnson in particular was a good enough Governor to get reelected in NM when it was heavily Democrat, and by a fair margin. Ron Paul, well, him being VP would be signaling that we really do need to be responsible with our spending. (Hell, if I were in charge I'd put him as head of the Fed just to watch people's heads explode.)

Whatever it takes to get the Marxist Muslim out of the White House. Let him pick Jeb Bush if that will do the trick. I don’t give a s**t.

LOL Sigh... 48 state loss.

no vote for Mitt is a vote for Obama and thats just a fact.
What is right for America is to toss obama and then work forward.

no vote for Mitt is a vote for Obama and thats just a fact.

I refuse to accede to this reasoning; it is fatally flawed and I refuse to cast my vote for the second prong of Morton's Fork.

What is right for America is to toss obama and then work forward.

That is indeed what would be necessary; however you're deluding yourself thinking Romney is going to work forward. He will at best hold things at about the level they are at now. I have seen nothing that indicates he would encourage responsible spending, dismantle the TSA, encourage the repeal of NDAA, Patriot Act, etc.

In short, all I see him as is a "relief valve" for the statists to keep the 'conservatives' from blowing up and actually starting stuff: that is, he'll simply give people the time to realize that this is the new normal. And honestly, with the opposition form Congress or the Judicial branch there was nothing he could do anyway.

Get out your arguments about why Roberts's decision was excellent, because you're going to need them should Romney get elected.

>If the GOP wanted to win, they probably could do very nicely with a Gary Johnson / Ron Paul ticket.
LOL Sigh... 48 state loss.

Really? You think running on a platform consisting of "We want to end the TSA, the horribly destructive WoD, the government over-reaches that led to things like ObamaCare and the excessive and irresponsible spending" would lead to a whole 48 state loss... even with Obama in as little favor as he is now?

They aren't ideal by any means. But they are for responsible spending and generally less government. Plus Ron Paul is rather popular with the college-agers, combined with the general feeling of betrayal some have with Obama continuing Bush's policies, and that's a nice voting block there. Further, Ron Paul as VP means that the usual arguments against him are moot, because they are against him being president. Johnson, as I said was a good governor, and I think would make a decent President.

If it really is as bad as you portray then America is toast and cannot elect anyone who is even right of center again.
If that be the case, then why shouldn't I vote directly for Obama? Crash the system and let it burn, cause there's no way to stop it.

Proves my point - you go ahead vote for obama to remain

however you're deluding yourself thinking Romney is going to work forward.

I don't think that at all - it is irrelevant to my point about the best thing for America is to rid us of Obama. - I will work on everything else after he is gone.

Really? You think running on a platform consisting of "We want to end the TSA, the horribly destructive WoD, the government over-reaches that led to things like ObamaCare and the excessive and irresponsible spending" would lead to a whole 48 state loss... even with Obama in as little favor as he is now?

Absolutely. Look, Ron Paul, any of his strengths notwithstanding, is a kook, and that, right or wrong to your mind, is how he is perceived in 90%+ of the American electorate. 48 states is about right on the high side of the estimate - O might only win 46 again that slate

f that be the case, then why shouldn't I vote directly for Obama?

Thank you for the final admission.

And that stopped Obama with Biden? Joe Biden?
If Joe Biden can be VP, then who the hell can't?
How about you say what you mean: I hate Ron Paul and would never vote for him on any ticket whatsoever, no matter the position, and nobody else would either.

I mean it's the Vice President... nobody pays attention to the VP, except for a brief flash when they happen to say or do something bad. When was the last time a VP made a significant impact on someone's vote? Now qualify that with "that wasn't positive." (Palin.)

>I refuse to accede to this reasoning; it is fatally flawed and I refuse to cast my vote for the second prong of Morton's Fork.

It's a Morton's Fork as far as I'm concerned:

The top portion is Morton's Fork; it's where two alternatives lead to the same [on nearly same] unpleasant conclusion. Ignore the Catch-22 portion, besides, it's inaccurate.

Replace "live well" with "Obama", and "live frugally" with "Romney"; then replace "must be rich" with "believes on Marxist socialism" and "must save a lot of money" with "believes on Fabian socialism"; last replace "can afford to pay heavy taxes" with "implements socialism."

Therefore I conclude that the two choices are not significantly different.
Where am I wrong in that line of reasoning?

Yeah, they'd get a rock solid 17%.

Sober up and call your drug counselor in the morning.

And how much would Romney get without the "Anybody But Obama" mentality?

Question: why would this combo get less than the differrence?
Answer: The "Anybody But Obama" do not really mean what they say.

“A Romney-Christie ticket fits the stereotypes of Northeasterners south of the Potomac ans west of the Alleghenies”

I was thinking much the same thing. I like Christie a whole bunch as NJ’s Governor, but I think he’d be a bad choice as VP for exactly the reasons you’ve stated.

If New Jersey goes Republican this November, so will Vermont, Pennsylvania, New York, and even California. In other words, it will not happen. My wishing it won’t help.

I agree about NJ as i have been here my entire life. They will be busing in anyone they can to vote for BigO. Something like 110% voting in Neward, Camden, Jersey City. NJ stays somewhat under the radar in a lot of circumstances. Pa. or NY usually gets blamed. NJ is the most corrupt state in the Union. They just do it quietly unlike Chicago(Il.) Look at Melendez, Lautenberg & Torricelli. Then add Corzine and you have a politically worthless state. IMHO
