Kids who bullied bus monitor suspended for a year, assigned to reform school

You need closure.

Following individual meetings this week with school and district administrators, each family waived their right to a hearing and agreed to one-year suspensions from school and regular bus transportation. The Greece Central School District is legally required to provide all students ages 5 to 16 with an education, therefore, during the 2012-13 school year, the students who have been suspended will be transferred to the district Reengagement Center, located in a non-school facility. This alternative education program keeps middle school students on track academically while providing a structured opportunity for students to take responsibility for their actions by completing community service hours and receiving formal instruction related to conduct and behavior that prepares them for a productive future. The program includes a strong parent involvement component.

Each student will be required to complete 50 hours of community service with senior citizens and will complete a formal program in bullying prevention, respect and responsibility. In accordance with district policy, if at 30 weeks into the school year the students have completed the conditions of their discipline and are in good standing at the Reengagement Center, they can apply for early readmission to Athena Middle School.

Too much, too little, or just enough? A year’s a stiff sentence for 10 or so minutes of verbal harassment, as nasty as it was, but the school district’s under immense pressure to be strict with the little cretins. And this incident’s playing out, of course, amid growing awareness culturally of how bad the effects of bullying can be. Crack down on this bunch and you send a national message given the spotlight on this case.

Because I know you’re wondering, the donations for Klein now stand north of $668,000. Per the Times, more than 30,000 people have contributed from all 50 states and 82 countries. Two days ago, she finally met the man who came up with the idea. Here’s the vid from WGRZ.

668k? Wooly Bully!

She should contribute money to the reform school the boys are going to, in particular, to hire R. Lee Ermey as their “teacher.”

That sounds like the way the regular schools should work.

Justice done. Long overdue in the thousands of similar incidents nationwide. My heart still bleeds for the several children who have committed suicide as a result of bullying.

Thank God this woman has received tangible comfort from her fellow man. But school districts need to stop this from happening to the many, many others who are mistreated every day by bullies.

And, most certainly, not all of those bullied are gay, as their apologists would like everyone to think. I wager that the vast majority of victims are not.

You got that right. What you have is typical liberal overkill. You suspend the little hellions from the school bus for 3-6 months at the most. The old women they gave a very hard time to.....She had 450+ thousand dollars sent to her to salve her wounds. She can retire

“30,000 people have contributed from all 50 states”

What about the other 7 States? They must have been Blue States.

A lot, though certainly not all ‘bullying’ would end with a reversion to the old ways. AKA not getting a more severe punishment for self defense than the person doing the assaulting gets.

A bully today KNOWS his actions will be bolstered by the ‘system’ because if the ‘bullied’ fights back, it is he/she who will pay a price. The bully does not care about such costs to begin with.

It’s no different than the lib argument for gun control that punishes the CC holder when he exercises his rights and gets prison time, while the attacker gets to sue him.. It’s only a matter of scale separating the two situations.

Basically the entire system needs a rework top to bottom ... not likely but still the truth.

The discipline is correct but where are the personally written full page apologies?

This punishment is definitely too severe. Two or three weeks suspension and 40 hours of community service would have been more than sufficient. How many cases of equally bad or worse behavior could we find where almost no punishment was given?

Just another example of cowardly officials who are incapable of exercising good judgment, and who overreact to any public pressure.

“”I had NO idea that REFORM schools still existed!! BRAVO!! MORE kids should be in REFORM SCHOOL!!!””

Nor did I. Sounds as tho’ it would work better than the alternative schools CA had or maybe still has. Those kids just went to a different school than “normal” ones. With the punishment of these kids, they will learn some tough lessons. For their community service, they will actually have to look senior citizens in the eye and picture someone treating their elderly grandparents as they treated Karen.

I think the guy from Toronto wanted to reach out and slap that bimbo reporter - that was such a dumb question.
“What would you say to THOSE who say???””” NO - there aren’t those who say - IT’S only YOU!!

It must be the first thing they learn in journalism classes if they ever attended one!

Justice was indeed done, but things like this happen because kids are not taught to respect elders. Parents and teachers should work together instead of fighting each other

They don’t.

Now, they’re Reengagement Centers.

Exactly. They ignored the school bus abuse and now they over react in a cruel and stupid way. 3 months is enough for a child to get the message and for his parents to have to make time to drive him/her to school
