Kids who bullied bus monitor suspended for a year, assigned to reform school

You need closure.

Following individual meetings this week with school and district administrators, each family waived their right to a hearing and agreed to one-year suspensions from school and regular bus transportation. The Greece Central School District is legally required to provide all students ages 5 to 16 with an education, therefore, during the 2012-13 school year, the students who have been suspended will be transferred to the district Reengagement Center, located in a non-school facility. This alternative education program keeps middle school students on track academically while providing a structured opportunity for students to take responsibility for their actions by completing community service hours and receiving formal instruction related to conduct and behavior that prepares them for a productive future. The program includes a strong parent involvement component.

Each student will be required to complete 50 hours of community service with senior citizens and will complete a formal program in bullying prevention, respect and responsibility. In accordance with district policy, if at 30 weeks into the school year the students have completed the conditions of their discipline and are in good standing at the Reengagement Center, they can apply for early readmission to Athena Middle School.

Too much, too little, or just enough? A year’s a stiff sentence for 10 or so minutes of verbal harassment, as nasty as it was, but the school district’s under immense pressure to be strict with the little cretins. And this incident’s playing out, of course, amid growing awareness culturally of how bad the effects of bullying can be. Crack down on this bunch and you send a national message given the spotlight on this case.

Because I know you’re wondering, the donations for Klein now stand north of $668,000. Per the Times, more than 30,000 people have contributed from all 50 states and 82 countries. Two days ago, she finally met the man who came up with the idea. Here’s the vid from WGRZ.

May she buy a 1 million volt stun gun and the next time one of those little F’ers mouths off to her she gives him a shot that will cross his eyes permanently and simultaneously vacate his bowels.

Emotionally disturberbed under FAPE legislation is a huge umbrella rangeing from severe psychosis to something as minor as facial tics. There lays the problem, under FAPE they do qualify. Unfortunately school districts only ship out the worst case scenerios due to space constraints. The program in my area has a waiting list. So these kids will be put with the most severe. My favorite pediatrician told me that kids like these, loud mouth brats, usually come out with worse behaviors. I have ton of anedoctal evidence to support this position. Sorry I see this a government overreach to the max. The parents did have some leverage but chose not to use it. Lousy parents.

Go google about the logical fallacy of the begged question.

In this case the question you’re begging is what “her job” IS. Not what you’d like it to be, but what her employers put her up to do.

Actually we don’t know if they are criminals. They may not have been arrested ...yet. But, their behavior was pretty demented. Perhaps we are saving some from being another victim of something worse. Their brazen behavior needs to be ‘scared straight’.

The problem is godlessness.

Best and most succinct summary I've seen in a long time on FR.

In a saner world she could tase the bastards.

Alas, trying this today would doubtless get her into a litany of woes from community to government to the school administration.

Interesting. Behind all the gobbledegook, the job description basically reads that a bus monitor is to look after the physical welfare of the children. In other words, make sure they don’t fall off the seats if the bus jolts or leave them behind at a stop. Nothing about stopping a situation akin to Lord of the Flies.

They are just public schools that have guards to protect the teachers and they take attendance....there isn’t any reform here.

The Scared Straight thing was pretty effective intil libs stopped that too. Another reason for the behavior we see now.

Amazing...Here on FR there are a bunch of people literally blaming the victim of these animals and defending them. While having a tantrum that some of us would see them punished for their actions with more than a sternly worded letter. I must have died and gone to Democratic Underground...

“As of 2010, the U.S. national average annual salary of a school bus monitor is $26,699, according to CBSalary.com.”

That’s a sweet gig!

$26,699 to be a school bus monitor?

Let’s see, school is in session 180 days per year and the bus monitor may work one hour in the morning on the way to school and one hours in the afternoon on the way home.

That comes out to $74.16 an hour!

What a country, you work a total of 360 hours per year at $74.16 an hour plus benefits and extended vacation and all you have to do keep order and make sure brats get on and off the bus at the right stop?

And when you screw-up, people will send you a half million dollars!

Arguably that ought to extend to physically restraining them from doing insane things, if possible... but what’s she going to do, clap her hand over ten foul mouths simultaneously?

Our crotchety old uncle does not appreciate the situation at all. Without support what in blue blazes is she supposed to do. He’s talking about what bus monitor might have looked like forty, fifty years ago.

I haven’t given her any additional funds because, in part, it seems she’s doing well enough now. But if I met her I’d tell her I was so sorry to see what happened and disgusted at the confluence of events that made it possible. NONE of which were HER “lack of guts.” She had no latitude to use any such “guts.”

IIRC, Obama's late adopted son, Trayvon, got a comparably negligible slap-on-the-wrist suspension from his school for alleged possession of Mary Jean, unexplained possession of womens' jewelry, reportedly punching out a school bus driver, and whatever else......but it appears a "slap" didn't work too well for him....so maybe he should have received what these little NY darling angels received.....i.e., a serious penalty.

Indiegogo is an international crowd funding site founded by Danae Ringelmann, Slava Rubin, and Eric Schell in 2008. Its headquarters are in San Francisco, California. As of 2012, it has hosted over 100,000 funding campaigns in areas such as music, charity, small business and film. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiegogo)

How do we know how much of that money this woman will be able to keep? Some how, Indiegogo has to make money. Will she be taxed on that kind of donation? A 670k pop of her AGI will put her in the top 0.5% — half that money will be soaked up in various income taxes.

The problem is, indeed, godlessness.

May god save our nation! We send children into godless schools and threaten taxpayers with armed police and court action if they refuse to pay for it. We murder pre-born babies by the millions and allow it to continue year after year. If conservatives ***really** really **really cared they could shut down the abortion mills and the godless government schools tomorrow. God is likely not too happy with us.

If children attend godless, compulsory, socialist-entitlement, and single-payer government owned and run schools the following happens:

—They **WILL** learn to think and reason godlessly. They must just to cooperate in the classroom. How could it be otherwise?

—They risk learning to be comfortable with socialism and government compulsion. Why not? Hey! Any voting mob powerful enough to give the child tuition-free schooling, and *force* them to use it, is powerful enough to give them **lots** of free stuff and compel them to use it.!

May god save our nation! We send children into godless schools and threaten taxpayers with armed police and court action if they refuse to pay for it. We murder pre-born babies by the millions and allow it to continue year after year.

And you are making a complete fool of yourself for no income at all. Looks like she’s the smart one.

What other victims of aggression do you blame? Raped women? Gassed Jews? Mugged senior citizens? George Zimmerman?

Just curious...

The Bus Monitor Job description states:

“The duties of a bus monitor include making sure that children remain safely seated while the bus is in motion, maintaining order on the bus...”

The lady failed to maintain order and was being paid $75.00 per hour of tax payer money.
