The lady was given a figurehead job. As if just having a grownup there would cause unruly kids to simmer down. That was when kids respected grownups. What was she empowered to do? Diddly squat. They hired her where she would prove to be a patsy, but old fashioned she had no idea that kids were this wild today and so accepted the post.
The video went viral, the school district was embarrassed, the parents either don’t care or are stupid to allow such a placement offer to stand. These kids will now have a classification, and resulting EIP, determined to be severely emotionally impaired. Becuase this is a government entity, good luck ever getting that expunged from their records. Shame on the parents. Big difference between “emotionally disturbed” and being a freaking big mouth brat.

The job of a bus monitor is to keep control of the students on the bus and maintain safety of those on the bus.
The bus monitor failed in her duties and should have been fired long ago.
Can’t whip them at all today in most places, which would have been a very quick answer, but at the least it ought to have entailed a lot of community service before letting the bullies back to school.

Well, obviously you had parents that taught you the concept of consequences. These kids did not, based on what I know they are in for the “hell” of their young lives.

The whole scene was a production for the video. A copycat of the rap star beating videos on the internet. I would say conspiring to do that makes them severely emotionally disturbed. Continuation school or whatever they call it there is well deserved.
Was she supposed to make up her own “job” rules? School administrations today are notorious for disempowering the adults. She was a figurehead, designed to be such by her employers. If she was at any fault, it was for being old fashioned enough to believe that just being there as a grownup with the kids would get them to behave themselves.
Yes! They absolutely sicken me. As if this elderly woman could have done anything to stop them. In this PC world, if she had touched one hair on the head of these little Rosemary Babies, she would have been in the slammer. If she had raised a finger to hurt them, they could have torn her to pieces.
P.S.: Did you read that these monsters are going to work in a nursing home?? I wouldn’t let them near my 87 year old mom - even with supervision.
They were 7th grade kids and each and every day millions of parents, teachers, coaches, grandparents and bus monitors manage to keep control of 7th grade kids.
It is not as if she had the job of maintaining control of prisoners on their way to GitMo.
My daughter in our little town had a teacher with over 40 years in the job. She quit the next year because the school refused to let the teachers use the most minor forms of control and discipline. In her own words, that’s the only reason she quit. She would have taught into her 80s had the situation been different.
I agree, this sounds way too optimistic an assignment. The brats ought to be made to clean and groom the grounds of the nursing home and other things maybe where they are well separated from the residents. Otherwise they might think it great fun to unplug some funny looking old lady’s respirator.
