Ugh. We're hearing good things from the repubs now but I fear they'll cave once again if elected in November. We lack leaders with the courage to stick to their convictions. Enter Bobby Jindall, Marco Rubio,Paul Ryan, Sarah, they are there just not as many as we would like.

I have no idea what Lou (Lew?) is taling about

That is their [Dems/Team Obama] strategy. They want to muddle things.

As Britt Hume said on FNS, they are trying as hard as they can to keep from calling Obamacare a 'tax'; they are running from that.

McConnell claimed that all 60 Dem senators who voted FOR Obamacare were voting for a TAX.

Since SCJ Roberts basically called Obamacare a tax, the Dems are having difficulty -- recall Obama's claim that Obamacare would not add on 'dime' of taxes to the middle class?

[Hmmm.... this ruling may turn out to be Obama's 'read my lips, no new taxes' albatross.]

So let's add this all up:

The Bush Tax Cuts will expire 12/31/2012. The average taxpayer making around $60,000 through a paycheck will pay $2-3,000 more each year in federal income tax. The average government subsidy/welfare recipient will pay no tax on the welfare, or the rent subsidy, or the free condoms, etc.

The "Payroll Tax Cut" will expire 12/31/2012. The average taxpayer making around $60,000 through a paycheck will have an additional 2% or $1,200 per year deducted from his paychecks. The average government subsidy/welfare recipient will pay no tax on the welfare, or the rent subsidy, or the free condoms, etc.

And all of that is before the ObamaTax to finance ObamaCare. No matter how the election turns out in November, there is going to be a lot of thunder and lighting produced in Washington just to get back to the horrible economic conditions we have today.

Whoops...Brit whacked out....WHAT!!!!!?

Went off on Liberal Lizzie.

House has a full repeal vote scheduled for November. RATs think they have a second chance to sell it to the American Public, better than they did the first time (with lies and procedural gimmicks)

Liberal Lizzie says RATs say they are the party that believes in "universal coverage" (single payer) and the Republicans are not.

I know Krauthammer says its because Roberts is so noble he didn't want the Supreme Court to overreach its bounds by usurping power over Congress but sorry Chuck I ain't buyin' that one.

I like Krauthammer but sometimes he is a total moron. How the HELL can he say by Roberts declaring the penalty for not buying insurance a tax and then sending it back to be rewritten as a tax is in any way usurping power over Congress?

You can tell this guy is from chicago, criminal and stupid,a deadly combination.

Great point Bernard we are up to our collective asses in taxation and even one more tax will sink a lot of ships. Just what the regime is hoping for.

Yet another week that few if any are talking about hopelessly being in debt up to our shoulders rapidly approaching 16 trillion about a third due to the current regime. Why does no one talk about this?

So ... we have to elect congresscritters who WILL stick to their convictions & when they don’t, send them home. Pronto. No re-election for 30 years or whatever some of these guys have been getting.

The country as set up by our Founders is “BY the people, & for the people”. It has been perverted to ‘by the politicians and for the politicians’. The country should be like a manual shift car .... requires constant work/attention to drive it. We’ve let it morph into an ‘automatic’ .... we elect whomever wants to run, send them to DC & let them do as they please. We should get involved at the grass roots level and rigorously VET candidates there ... then if elected, they should get CONSTANT feedback and instructions from their constituents at home. If they are not responsive, they lose the next election.

This is how it ‘should’ work. We’ve gotten soft & lazy. The founders, who set this up, pledged their lives, fortunes & sacred honor & many paid up on that pledge. I don’t think they envisioned what we have now .... folks who wouldn’t be engaged at all. The Army ad is “An Army of One”. We can only for sure make sure that we as individuals step up & do what we can do. We can ‘for sure’ try to influence others to do the same. On another thread, ‘freedommom’ was talking about her dad who was on the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor .... his comment on how he survived that experience was “everyone did whatever they were big enough to do......” If we want to survive as a country, we need to follow his advice.

why are they not starting off by defining the DIFFERENCE between health insurance and healthcare?

I just don’t get why they aren’t doing this??romney’s not doing this either.

As much as I dislike Justice Roberts’ vote, it is consistent with the idea of calling balls and strikes. The Supreme Court does not have to agree with the law or the tax, or even if the law or tax is a good idea or a bad idea; all they are supposed to do is decide if what Congress does is constitutional or not. In that sense, what Roberts did makes sense. We would like it better if we agreed with the outcome.

Its who and what they are.Nothing happens without it they are almost always on the wrong side of events. It will ultimately be what dooms the Demoncrat party. ok, watching Nancy Pelosi and I must tell my Nancy Pelosi story.

For I knew Nancy when she was but a young adolescent wearing the perfectly pleated skirts of a Catholic high school.

I know Palin called Pelosi and idiot but it’s deeper.

Pelosi is the daughter of Mayor Tommy D’Alesandro, former and very corrupt Mayor of Baltimore. The D’Alesandros ruled Baltimore, easily, and the D’Alesandros did what they do.

My father was a shop steward in Baltimore local Carpenters union 101. As such he got the job of remodeling the D’Alesandros Little Italy home. I went with my Dad to help him sometimes and Nancy would come home from school.

D’Alesandro was a great fan of the Baltimore construction unions and no wonder. Come election day, the union guys, especially the electricians, would go to the voting place and somehow would zap all the voting machines to make them read whatever D’Alesandro wanted them to read.

Nancy was a spoiled brat child. I’d watch her throw stuff across the room when her mother told her no for something. She’d go pout to her father who always gave her her way. I was only about 11-12 years old but I despised her, thought she was nothing but a brat. Heaven forbid I should ever talk to her, which I had to once in a while, because she’d lift up her nose and act all snooty.

The voting machines were old-fashioned things, I don’t know how they worked, but the union guys always made them read the way that would keep the D’Alesandros in power. Nancy’s brother was also very active in Baltimore politics in the day.

Pelosi’s not an idiot. She’s used to getting her way and she moved cross country to be somewhere else where she could rule and ignore to suit her, her children, all the D’Alesandros....and if the little guy benefits, well so okay but Pelosi could care less about that.

The idiots in the Pelosi story are those who voted for her. She’s just enjoying the benefits is all.

RG...all Roberts had to do was repeal the damn thing.

It’s old and boring to try and figure his logic.

Allow me to tell you his logic....

HE WAS SCARED TO TAKE A STAND!

If he’d done his job all this nonsense would be over with.

We have a Supreme Court so they will take a stand.

And Roberts, worst of all, did not.

I have NO respect now, possibly ever now that Roberts has shown us how NOT to be a Supreme Court Chief Justice, for the concept of a Supreme Court.

You want to see real poverty, go to a communist dictatorship; that’s where you will find the worst poverty and oppression. Why do we want to bring it here?

McConnell wants to dodge every question and just say it’s a tax.

Watching ABC.
Has Roberts created a new tension between the Feds and States?

The Feds collect the new Taxes and have the cash.

The States can refuse the expansion of Federal programs, in this case Medicaid, and the States are solely responsible for delivering Medical care.

The Feds cannot push on that rope and force States to bankrupt themselves via Medicaid.
Can progressives fight 50 wars to force Rommnycare onto all 50 States?

I just watched Paul Ryan save the day for all of us vis a vi obamcare. Going up against stuffy stephy who was laid back today since his side thinks they have now won the day with obamcare Ryan was brilliant.

In essence he gave a choice to viewers of either let government tell you what to do or trust the judgement of Free Enterprise. Ryan said that Roberts had now raised the stakes more than ever imaginable in Nov. He's right.

I agree that he was ineffective at getting the message out but completely agree with him. I want to see nothing more than he mentioned:

1. All states should have a High Risk Pool.
2. Tort reform.
3. You should be able to buy coverage from a carrier in any state.

He should have mentioned the current success of Health Savings Accounts, and the additional reform of Association Health Plans.

AHPs would allow any association to offer group insurance using a preferred carrier from any of the other states. That would be the same advantage now enjoyed by large multi-state businesses and labor unions.

I don't want any more meddling at the federal level. Do you?

It’s not that you were wrong in your analysis of what might well be the eventual result of the Roberts’ action.

It’s just trying to read Roberts’ mind is what the political chattering classes are doing. And in the attempt to step up to the editorial podium to sound all wise and insightful....well hey, RG, I write fiction too. You just dream it up in YOUR head and attribute it to a character, in this case Chief Justice Roberts.

I swear I’m right, I swear I’m right. Roberts did not want to take a stand, he did not want the court to take a stand.

He did not do his job, which was to take the law, AS WRITTEN, and rule if it’s in keeping with the constitution.

COME ON GUYS! Why couldn’t he just do his damn job?

Now we look at a Supreme court with jaundiced eyes. Cause we can’t get rid of them.

Let me end by saying it again, maybe Roberts is reading this thread:

YOUR JOB IS TAKE LEGISLATION AS APPEALED AND DETERMINE IF IT MATCHED OUR CONSTITUTION AS WRITTEN AND AMMENDED.

Sheesh, it ain’t even rocket science....we do this sort of stuff all the time out here in la-la land.

“Hey Joe, I’m working on drafting a law that has a penalty for people who don’t get rain gutters on their houses. Does this match the contract with the community organization?”

“Well Bob, maybe you should call it an extra monthly assessment for those without suitable rain gutters. The contract calls for proper rain gutters on all homes in the community. The contract also allows a special assessment for those not in compliance with the bylaws.”

“So I shouldn’t call it a penalty but an extra assessment?”

“Yeah Bob. Cause if the homeowners appeal it to me I’m going to have to strike it down cause the contract does not call for “penalties”.

Like that.

All the time we do this stuff out here in la-la land where we carry this country on our backs.

Yet this past year we’ve spent millions of dollars, couldv’e bought many homes for non-working liberals, waiting for those prima donnas on the Supreme court to come with a ruling when go on, he could have just done his job.

You’re right.

I argue Pelosi’s not a dingbat either. Though I understand Palin’s larger point, I really do.

But Pelosi’s more a person who’s had everything she’s wanted in life and did whatever it took to continue towards that end. This includes using huge airplanes to fly her family and friends back and forth to DC.

Pelosi doesn’t have a moral one in her pathetic body.

I can recall vividly what Obama said right after the SCOTUS hearing on Merdicare in April, i.e., “Ultimately, I’m confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.”

At the time, many in the press didn't include the word "ultimately." I noted at the time that this indicated to me that he knew the decision of the court and was trying to undo it thru this pressure or perhaps blackmail. There are indications that Roberts changed his mind at the last minute.

This is truly frightening if the WH using whatever means can intimidate SCOTUS. Roberts had to manufacture a reason to uphold Obamacare. It was painfully obvious. The real question is why as you point out.

As Mark Levin points out, Roberts became a judicial activist with this decision. He created a precedent that the taxing power of the government can force people to buy something they don't want and it applies to every person in this country--except illegal aliens and some other excepted classes, which makes it difficult to defend as a tax.

Actually, over the past week I just finished reading reams and reams of conjecture some probably true some probably not about who Roberts and the people who put him in power really are. My comments stem from a lot of the research I did.To me they seemed logical.

It's rather obvious he ducked the issue of "was the mandate legal/constitutional or not" by declaring it a tax. The question remains why.

I just watched Paul Ryan save the day for all of us vis a vi obamacare

I think Ryan is the one to explain the details of Obamacare. The whole bill is an impossible fairy tale and Rube Goldberg idea.

The idea that you can add 32 million people to medicaire and not reduced quality is a fairy tale. You will never see a doctor unless you are on the operating table.

The idea that the middle class can get all these new goodies and the rich will pay for them is a fairy tale. Nobody gets "free" socialized medicine in Europe.

The dims have been very crafty in this battle. ACA is all about getting socialized medicine camel nose in the tent because there is no way this policy can work budgetarily. They have co-opted industry and created a health care Potemkin village. We need to get the facts out ASAP so voters will know how destructive this bill is.

Exactly, I think its rather naive to ignore the possibility of intimidation.

Exactly and when everyone learns that there are plans to hire over 10k irs agents to monitor compliance, what else do you think they will be monitoring? This is just a big govt. takeover of private enterprise by slick commies in control.

Just read an an American Thinker article poster on FR regarding Roberts.

My take after reading this article is that Mittens, the two Bushes, Clinton and Barak are all from the same family. Today it is Barak’s turn to run the show and appoint people to support his point of view. The bureaucracy, just like the apparatchiks in any Communist/Fascist country are all the same. They wish to push their view on the rest of us.

We will see in November who the people have elected. We will see in February if it has made any difference.
