CA Makes Moves to Ban Most Semi-Auto Firearms
NSSF ^ | 7/2/12

(GunReports.com) -- If you think it is hard to own and possess a semi-automatic firearm in California now, just wait until Senate Bill 249 gets enacted, NRA-ILA reports.

Senate Bill 249 was amended from an agriculture bill to a serious anti-gun bill to eliminate the ownership and possession of most semi-automatic firearms by law-abiding Californians. SB 249, introduced by state Senator Leland Yee (D-8), would restrict any person from importing, making, selling, loaning, transferring or possessing magazine release components in semi-auto firearms (bullet button, etc).

Senate Bill 249, if enacted, would ban the ownership and possession of AR-15s and other magazine-fed semi-automatic firearms that currently use "bullet buttons" or other tools to restrict the removal of the magazine. This anti-gun bill would also authorize civil and criminal penalties for possessing a "conversion kit."

Also, SB 249 would make the possession of a "conversion kit" a public nuisance, authorize civil and criminal penalties and require surrendering the conversion kit. According to this bill, a conversion kit is any combination of parts that, when affixed to a firearm with a fixed magazine, are designed and intended to convert that firearm into an “assault weapon” as defined in the bill.

S&W Model 617 comes in 10-shot. I recommend looking for the model with the stainless cylinder vs alumimum cylinder. See 617.

Romney signs off on permanent assault weapons ban

“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts. These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”

“The only alternative left to us will soon be to stop being “law abiding” citizens.””

Well said. Sad, but well said.

They also make the 627, which is an 8-shot 38/357 revolver.

Lee suposedly has stated it will not affect the bullet button rifles and is meant to cover the Mag Lok release specificaly, but most are saying the language of the bill does not say Mag Lok and therefore covers all bullet button rifles including those made by Colt, Smith & Wesson, and others desinged now and approved by California DOJ.

The use of a mag-magnet on a featured AR-15 is, arguably, already akin to the manufacture of an un-registered assault weapon. SB249 makes it against the law to possess as well.

A couple of misconceptions I'm seeing people post that are irking me (though I do understand the fear... The CA Penal code is a PITA to read if you're not used to the way it's set up):

- SB249 outlaws magazines with greater than 10 round capacity. (An assault weapon with a FIXED magazine with the ability to hold more than 10 rounds is defined in Penal Code 30515(a)(2)... which is NOT noted in the "conversion kit" definitions paragraph. (Only ones noted are those definitions of "evil featured" detachable magazine rifles, pistols and shotguns. (a)(1), (a)(4) and (a)(7) respectively.)

- SB249 outlaws standard magazine release catches.... A standard magazine release button cannot be used on a "fixed magazine" rifle, only a rifle (AR-15), without a mag catch. A rifle in this state is functionally equivalent to a single-shot bolt action rifle. Therefore, the "when affixed to a firearm with a fixed magazine" does NOT apply.

-SB249 outlaws the bullet button. Same logic as above. Cannot be installed on an already "fixed magazine" rifle.

The economy HAS picked up in other states. SD is doing very well; accompanied by other Leftist-unfriendly Midwest states.

They also make the 627, which is an 8-shot 38/357 revolver.

My wife and I each have a 686+ (7 shot) with 4" barrel. We have put many thousands of rounds through them. Clearly our favorites. A few years back, I purchased the fancier 8-shot 627 for my wife for Mother's Day. It is still NIB. Not that she would not love to take it out. Our move to Idaho messed with having an indoor range membership that we used 3 to 5 times a week. Now it's an outdoor range. Fewer firing positions, a longer drive and often weather impaired. C'est la vie.

I am a native Californian and have lived here my whole life other than my time in the Corps. I admit I don’t know all of their stupid laws and I don’t care. I am sure that I own and use some weapons that the state considers illegal so tough sh#t, come and find them and prove it. I will continue to shoot what I want when I want and as much as I want.
It is just a horrible shame that I lost all of those wonderful weapons in a terrible boating accident on a very large and deep unnamed lake here in northern California. PROVE THAT I DIDN’T. To the state of California, “FU#K OFF”.

Isn't it wonderful that Politicians have the right to turn Law Abiding Citizens into Felons overnight?

It happened when my AK-47 Semi Automatic Rifle was just that one day and the next it was called an Assault Weapon that had to Registered with the State.

Failure to do so would result in my committing a Felony, even if I didn't do a thing differently from what I was doing the day before the Law took effect.

I decided to sell my Rifle to an out of State Buyer so I would be taken off the CA Assault Weapon Owner Registry. The only upside was the Value of the Rifle increased 100% from when I originally purchased it thanks to Obama’s Election.

Now I have a CA Legal AR-15 with the magical “Bullet Button”, so I guess I will be on the the brink of being a Felon once more without lifting a finger.

I'm beginning to feel like a German Jew in 1936. The Progression of Progressives is stealing our Liberty day by day, minute by minute.
