EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. A woman in a blue chiffon dress poked her head out of a black Range Rover here on Sunday afternoon and yelled to an aide to Mitt Romney, Is there a V.I.P. entrance. We are V.I.P.
No such entrance existed. The line of cars waiting to enter a Romney event at a waterfront estate here had reached 30 deep, testament to the Republican candidates fund-raising might on a weekend when he is expected to haul in $3 million in the Hamptons.
...
Laura R. Schwartz of New Jersey, the woman inside the Range Rover, complained that Mr. Obama had not visited Israel as president, a slight to the country, in her eyes. I dont think he is good for Israel, she said. Mr. Romney, she said, is a fresh face.
A few cars back, Ted Conklin, the owner of the American Hotel in Sag Habor, N.Y., long a favorite of the well-off and well-known in the Hamptons, could barely contain his displeasure with Mr. Obama. He is a socialist. His idea is find a problem that doesnt exist and get government to intervene, Mr. Conklin said from inside a gold-colored Mercedes as his wife, Carol Simmons, nodded in agreement.
Ms. Simmons paused to highlight what she said was her husbands generous spirit: Tell them whos on your yacht this weekend! Tell him!
Over Mr. Conklins objections, Ms. Simmons disclosed that a major executive from Miramax, the movie company, was on the 75-foot yacht, because, she said, there were no rooms left at the hotel.

The Hamptons; huh? Hot Dog!!! Looks like Romney is going to carry New York. (Tongue is planted firmly in cheek.)
He doesn’t have to carry NY, just take OBs donors will be enough. Obama’s donations are drying up.
Pray for America
Up until a few months ago, we kept hearing about the much-ballyhooed "billion dollar" campaign that Obama was going to run. Well so far, with respect to fund raising, the Romney team has been matching Obama dollar for dollar and then some.
There are still ways for Romney to blow this election, but lack of money will not be one of them.
Obamas donations are drying up.

What happened to that Billion dollars they were supposed to raise for the Obama 2012 Campaign???
The money that Romney picks up in the Hamptons doesn’t have to be used in New York.

Yeah; I know. That was why I said “Tongue is planted firmly in cheek.”
It doesn’t seem to be ‘happening’ for The Won this time:
I dont actually believe this report from the Hamptoms. This is a blog connected with the NYT and it is reported as a leftist’s dream of what might happen... too many stereotypes in the story.
Leftists lie
This story is, IMHO, a lie.
Not that the NYT has ever been party to lies instead of reporting.
Not so. Don't be fooled by the hype. Obama Has More Cash on Hand Than Romney
"President Obama and his campaign team are apparently fibbing to donors. Virtually every day, the Obama team sends out desperate emails complaining that theyre running behind Mitt Romney in the money race. But according to OpenSecrets.org, thats simply not the case. As of May 31, 2012, Obama had raised $255,162,109. Hed spent $109,718,115. That means he had almost $110 million in cash on hand.
Mitt Romney, by contrast, had raised $121,023,126; hed spent $104,036,499. He had just under $17 million in cash on hand. So Obama had raised nearly twice as much cash as Romney as of May 31, 2012, and had about six times as much cash on hand.
Obama hasnt reported his June figures; Romney reportedly raised in excess of $100 million. People have supposed that the reason Obama didnt release his figures is that he didnt want to look like he was coming up short against Romney. In fact, the opposite may be true Obama may be raising scads of cash, but wants to continue pressing a message of urgency into the donor base.
With June being a big wedding month O might have raked a ton of cash in from his wedding gift call....haaa!
Now this I believe.
What about the $100 million in “soft money” Sheldon Adelson of Las Vegas promised to send to the Romney campaign?
I would have loved to been a fly on the wall when Obummer heard the news.
think he got any $$$ from Barney Frank’s guests? Ron Perelman supporting Romney ? Color me surprised.
I don’t believe it, either, chickensoup. That would be considered tres gauche in Texas & moneyed Texans are known for saying some pretty outlandish things. Among the NE elite, it’s inconceivable.
I think the NYT/ this dumocRat shill is projecting.
This sounds more like the way hustlers/ trash talk in a Jack Kerouac or Patrick Dennis novel. (Who does *that* remind us of?)
Patrick Dennis novel.
YOU KNOW PATRICK DENNIS?
Of course not! (I think he passed away well before I read Auntie Mame) But I love his work. I didn’t care so much for his last books (in fact, I didn’t finish either Paradise or Little Me. Paradise was anticlimactic & LM was just plain sad) The best one is Joyous Season. (If you haven’t read it, DO NOT eat or drink while reading it. It’s hysterical!)
If I were these people, I would not have been giving a reporter my name. Makes the work of the Troika so much easier.
Subtle, but the point will stick!
:-) I thought so. (I was just being silly) Paradise might be okay if it was the first thing someone read, I guess. It’s kind of like Hotel Pastis, but not as good (imho). I bought it used from Amazon. After the Mames, How Firm A Foundation, & Joyous Season, it didn’t really “live up”. JS might be my favorite book of all time.
He is still one of my favorite authors, though. John Berendt, Peter Mayle & Jim Bouton are the others.
I’m always running behind the times . . “blue chiffon dress.” Is chiffon in style?
You. Are brilliant. Plastic will do. Or even just a picture of a fork (to avoid the SS) Everywhere 0 goes, he needs to see people with forks.
Heh.
Damn. Even the rich liberals are getting it. :) I am truly happy about this development!!
Would I be escorted away if I decided to drive through the Hamptons all day, in a used car, blasting heavy metal?
“Not so. Don’t be fooled by the hype. Obama Has More Cash on Hand Than Romney”
Fool ourselves?
GOP PACs are already at around 10 to 1 bigger and grewing. The Democrats’ convention has been cut by one day already. Obama is spending hard money - that is money he himself has raised very early in this cycle - that is a very bad sign for him and good sign for America.
Fooling ourselves?
Obama has a lot more campaign money than Romney
"The lie needs to be put to the very idea that President Obama might be outspent during the 2012 election. Nobody knows how much the candidates and campaign will raise in the weeks ahead, but, so far, the numbers are pretty clear. To date, the Democratic National Committee, the Obama campaign and Obama super PACs have raised $471,400,000. This does not include at least $400 million that the labor unions have pledged to spend on Obamas behalf. The Romney campaign, Republican National Committee and Romney super PACs have raised $264,223,126 and much of that was spent during the Republican primary contest.
Anyway, there is a myth in American politics today that Obama will be outspent by Mitt Romney. Maybe that myth exists because Democrats, including Carter Eskew and President Obama, say it is so. It must be a fundraising tactic to scare contributors into giving, because the numbers suggest something completely different.
If Im wrong about these numbers, I wish that Carter, President Obama or other readers would let me know. Lets not quibble over groups like the NRA or the Sierra Club. But any honest analysis of the funding at the top of the ticket confirms that Obama has a huge advantage. As more reliable information is confirmed, I will pass it along. In the meantime I think that the Obama campaigns complaints about being outspent by Romney should be greeted with skepticism."
On the 2012 campaign trail, Obama is claiming that he was outspent by the Reps in 2008--a definite lie that showed Obama with twice as much money as McCain. In 2008 Obama raised close to $750 million. I have no doubt he will raise at least as much this time. Obama wants to be seen as the underdog.
As far as cutting the Dem convention by one day, it has less to do with funding as it does with making a big mistake by holding it in NC. Our first gay president does not go over well in NC nor do the Dems who have an unpopular Dem governor. And a significant number of Dems are bypassing the national convention. The real test of Obama's popularity will be how many Dem candidates/incumbents want to be seen with Obama on the campaign trail.
"Bizarrely, even though Obama was noted for pulling in a flood of campaign cash in his previous races much of it from suspicious, unverified sources his new campaign strategy involves whining about how Mitt Romney and allied independent groups are outspending him. Because the media was completely uninterested in harping upon the point in 2008, and certainly isnt going to bring it up now, you might not recall that Obama actually broke a high-profile promise to abide by public campaign financing rules in 2008, because he was hauling in so much money from donors.
The often-repeated Obama lie about being outspent by Romney-aligned Super PACs was debunked last week. Obama Super PACs have spent more than Romney Super PACs, and the Obama groups have been far more negative. Perhaps the Romney groups will spend more during the heated final months of the campaign, but as things stand right now, the Obama narrative about evil Republican Super PACs burying him under negative ads, which his allies cant afford to respond to, is simply false.
As for the campaigns themselves, Obama began with a $100 million cash advantage, and still has nearly $100 million more in cash on hand. Romney has been doing much better than Obama at fundraising lately, but he had to spend a great deal on the primary campaign, while Obama faced no serious primary opposition. Since the primary season concluded and Romney officially became the nominee, the Obama campaign has outspent Romney 3-to-1, and the Obama ads have been over 75 percent negative."
