It’s bully versus nerd (Obama v. Romney)
NY Post ^ | July 8, 2012 | MICHAEL GOODWIN

Posted on 07/09/2012 11:24:31 AM PDT by neverdem

Mitt Romney is a good man. He’s smart, successful and there’s not a hint of scandal in his 65 years. He’s boring and a little distant, but those aren’t the flaws that could prove fatal.

Romney’s big problem is that he grew up in another America. He was raised to believe there is a clear standard for adult conduct, that even politics has rules and that it is the duty of a president to unite and lead the nation through its economic crisis.

Timing could be his great misfortune. Fate has given him a demoralized electorate that is growing distant from that old America and an opponent who spouts its verities, but actually believes in none of them.

Barack Obama believes that politics is a knife fight, and the only rule is that he must win. His conduct reflects the unholy mix of a messiah complex with the muscle of The Chicago Way. His goal, he tells us, is to “transform” America, not fix it.

This culture clash explains a presidential campaign operating in parallel universes. Romney is making a broad pitch to the nation as a whole, assuming jobs, the debt, deficit and a strong military are what people care about because they should.

Obama knows that’s no longer true for a big slice of the country. He gives lip service to those issues, but they concern him only to the extent they could be his undoing. His aim is to buy four more years by using the power of incumbency to distribute goodies that will insulate his supporters from immediate pain. In exchange, they’ll give him time to turn the nation into a European welfare state, with an imperial president uber alles.

Obama’s not making a national appeal. He’s micro-targeting groups already supporting him, hoping to drive up...

Goodwin wasn't listed among their OpEd columnists!?? I had to search for him at the Post. The word opinion isn't in the URL. He has been providing some local color about NYC after each column for a while. Here he also explained how the Rangel primary got screwed up among other updates.

Now here is the perfect example of propaganda...readers are supposed to swallow this hook line and sinker. The "Old America"? Granted it is a little hard these days to find a text book with actual history and facts still untouched...lying was regarded as about as low as one could get; cheating was regarded about the same; buying only what you can afford went out the window with "plastic"...human nature thinks things for nothing are free...plastic has made that possible - almost. Faith, kindness, manners, and responsibility...'Old America'? You bet...still here and always will be.

I don't think Romney is under any illusions as to the kind of campaign Obama is going to run.

I have never cared for Romney, but he is in an unusual position. If he can oust Obama from power, America and perhaps the world will have dodged a bullet.

If Romney fails, Obama and his henchmen will show NO restraint in implementing their Marxist/Muslim takeover of America.

Not if the GOP can hold onto the House and re-take the Senate. We MUST work to get the Senate out of Harry Reid’s hands and keep the House out of Nancy Pelosi’s hands. If we do that, even if BHO is reelected, he will get nothing done unless he does it by Executive Order and that maneuver can only go so far.

Compared to Obama, Romney is Pericles.

Compared to Romney, Obama is the Sausage-Seller in Aristophanes' comedy The Knights.

(No connection with the knights in Monty Python and the Holy Grail).

That column was dead-on correct. But what should be Romney’s strategy to counter Obama when half the electorate has morphed into a welfare state-minded sponge?

I don't think Romney is under any illusions as to the kind of campaign Obama is going to run.

But he has demonstrated an uncertainty as to the kind of campaign he needs to run to counter this monster.

See, that is the problem with “moving production”.

Production gets moved to ... eventually China.

China unemployment rate is quite low. Problem is the unemployment rate in America is HIGH.

So we send our jobs to China, where they are done by ever-more-expensive working Chinese, and we fall into chaos. We lose control over all production.

Where is the win in that? It’s only a plan for a generation at most.

Then utter failure. Complete, total failure.

Which Mitt never did at Bain, even though Barack Obama thinks it’s obvious that he must have.
