Professor: 'Jesus was a Muslim'
Campus Reform ^

Posted on 07/11/2012 2:32:01 PM PDT by oliverdarcy

The head of the religion department at Luther College in Iowa recently argued that Jesus Christ, the central figure of Christianity, was in fact, a Muslim.

“‘Was Jesus a Muslim?" asks Prof. Robert F. Shedinger in the beginning of a book he published this year entitled Was Jesus a Muslim? " I will answer with a very qualified yes."

In a recent interview Shedinger also defended his controversial thesis explaining that a Muslim undergraduate student had sent him on academic odyssey that culminated with him asking himself "Was Jesus a Muslim?"

"Even as a Christian I have to answer yes to that," said Shedinger, who is the head of the religion department at Luther College in Iowa.

Shedinger also argued that Islam is a better fit for Jesus since it is not a religion but a “social justice movement.”

Luther College as in “Martin Luther”?

Yes, unfortunately....they are ELCA. A professor at an ELCA seminary a few years ago proposed that’s Christ’s death and resurrection is not necessary for our salvation. The ELCA is widely regarded as disgustingly heterodox (to put it mildly) by other Lutherans, who basically cringe whenever they hear those four letters. Luther’s name has absolutely no bearing on their theology...it’s really only a fluke that they are still called Lutheran. Oh, they think that Luther would agree with them, but....then again they think that anything goes.

I’m a Missouri Synod gal. For those of you who don’t know, Matt Harrison who spoke at the congressional hearing for the HHS contraception mandate, is LC-MS as well. The main difference between ELCA and LC-MS is that ELCA doesn’t believe the Word of God to be true, and the LC-MS does.

Check out this Youtube video. :)

But how can they lay claim to any of that since Islam wasn’t “invented” until AD600 or thereabouts?

A Prof just selling his book. Most are happy making their students buy their latest version.

This guy is greedy.

The video is mostly for kicks and giggles. If you really want to see how bad things are, check out http://www.exposingtheelca.com/ and then a grisly example of an ELCA church at http://herchurch.org/

Professor of religious studies. Like being an astronomer
cause I know about astronomical studies.

But the Christ, y’know, the Yeshua guy, will forgive the
professor, if he repents from his sin of unbelief.
There is still hope in Gods promises. And God is not
capricious in his willingness to forgive repentants.

How can you be a member of a religion that wasn’t founded yet?

I’m a Catholic. Matthew Harrison is one of my heroes! His anti-HHS testimony was stand-up-and-cheer thrilling!

One more compelling argument for the abolition of tenure.

And you wonder How America got So Screwed up with people like This being the role model other people PAYING for an education have to suck up to to earn their degree.

These are the people who produce the Morons that enact public policy throughout Every sector of our daily lives.

You are so right.

Was it not amazing? My whole family is Lutheran, and my relatively unemotional dad started crying during that speech (if you ask my mom, anyway), he was so moved. My husband and his supervising pastor (he is on vicarage learning to be a pastor) cheered also. I was stuck at work. :p

(But I later found out how awesome it had been!)

I have to tell you—I respect Catholics far more than I respect ELCAs.

That is truly scary. How can you be a member of a religion that wasn’t founded yet?

Easy, because he's God. HE can do whatever he likes.

Wait a second. But if he's Muslim, then he's no longer a god, and merely a prophet. Which means he couldn't be part of a 'religion' that was created 600 years later!
