Wayne LaPierre to UN: Americans Will Never Surrender the Second Amendment
Townhall.com ^ | July 11, 2012 | Katie Pavlich

Today NRA Vice President Wayne LaPierre addressed the United Nations as the debate about the Arms Trade Treaty, or the "Small Arms Treaty," continues in New York City. The treaty is written to make it seem as though only arms transferred by governments will be affected but the details of the language seem to show the treaty applies to civilian firearms. The treaty has been classified as an international effort to attack the Second Amendment in the United States Constitution.

"I am hear to announce the NRA's strong opposition to anti-freedom policies that disregard American citizens' right to self defense. No foreign entity has jurisdiction over the freedoms our Founding Fathers guaranteed to us."

Any Arms Trade Treaty must be adopted by two-thirds of the U.S. Senate, which has 100 members.

Bull$hit, and he knows it. It takes 2/3 of "THE SENATORS PRESENT" which can legally be as few as 34, and if he thinks Harry Reid won't slam this monster through in the dark of night he should be fired, right now.

Let there be no confusion. Any treaty that includes civilian firearms ownership in its scope will be met with the NRA’s greatest force of opposition.

Those are weasel words Mr. LaPierre, because this can be read two ways. What about MILITARY firearms ownership: assault rifles or .50 caliber?

"No foreign entity has jurisdiction over the freedoms our Founding Fathers guaranteed to us."

Not according to certain FReepers who consider themselves Constitutional "scholars"...

All I can say is they are going to need to bring a lunch with 'em. This may take a while and get messy.

>> slam this monster through in the dark of night

Can the Senate schedule a vote secretly or without fair notice to the entire Senate body?

It would seem to me that subverting the process of representation especially at the expense of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, our Liberty, and Sovereignty would be a reckless maneuver.

If the UN. ...er...make that ANY UN law tries to govern me, consider me a lawbreaker.

Any UN dork ...or any other trying to enforce any UN law on my property well be considered a target.

One of these days a really stupid Democrat politician is going to do something so egregious that it will provoke enough people to violence.

Pushing this "treaty" thru in the middle of the night with a bare minimum of hand picked Senators would probably do it. I don't think that even Dingy Harry would have the balls to attempt it.....

...but maybe not...I am wrong frequently about political outrages....

The treaty has been classified as an international effort to attack the Second Amendment in the United States Constitution.

The Second Ammendment does not grant the right to bear arms. It merely reminds the Federal government that they are prohibited from messing around with a "Natural Right". Repealing any of the Bill of Rights would have no affect on the existance of those rights. It would only cause the Second American Civil War.

Any Senators who signed this treaty should be hunted down and branded with a T for Traitor on their faces. And that would be just for starters.

Americans Will Never Surrender the Second Amendment but our "leaders" might. At least they will try. However, I firmly believe that a treaty cannot amend the Constitution and if a treaty does not pass Constitutional muster, it is null and void. One might even go as far as to say that signing such a treaty would be a violation of the oath of office and therefore an Impeachable offense.

Just askin’. How will this treaty get enforced? There are no UN police nor are there any UN gun registries.

Any “treaty” would have to get approval of Congress, yes? I do not see that happening. Ever. Cetainly not 4 months from an election.

Try and bring it.

the prevailing fear is an attempt to circumvent the constitutional ratification requirement by having a midnight vote with hand selected quorum of senators instead of by a full senate in full view of the American people. Not sure if there’s a precedent for such a thing, NAFTA maybe.

There are millions of AR15s in this country. Uh, my wife has an intimate relationship an owner.

They are for the most part semi-auto civilian versions of the M16. You can bet they are very high on the gun grabber list of priorities as *assault* rifles.

I do not care for Romney, but I remind everyone here that Moochelle and Zero have made it clear that if he gets another 4 years, they *are* coming hard and fast for the guns. If that happens it will be time for a lot of big talking gun owners to put up or be shut up.

“they *are* coming hard and fast for the guns.”

Freedom in the country began with a gun grab on 4/19/1775, and pretty much ended with one on 4/19/93.

The Going On Progressive party has been an epic failure in maintaining the rule of law and freedom in this land.

Imagine what would happen if the KKK were caught on video intimidating black voters, or put a bounty on a black man who killed a “white” man in self defense.

BP Agent Brian Terry was forced to confront a criminal with a bean bag gun by the government that armed his opponent with a semi-auto AKM rifle.

Sadly, the soap box and ballot box may no longer sufficient to defeat tyranny in this land. I pray I’m wrong, but one cannot ignore the facts.

Apathy in the face of evil destroyed Germany before it was rebuilt into a respectable nation.

Its not the Americans that will surrender the 2nd Amendment — it may be POTUS and Congress and they not necessarily represent the American people.

I completely agree. Way over rated. For a number of reasons.

It isn't like TV. A 30 round magazine doesn't last for 10 minutes of continuous fire. / snigger What is the rate of fire on auto? And how many times can you be shot while changing mags for the 4th time in 2 minutes?
