Well, I'd go there to remind them that it was the abolitionists (Republicans) that freed the slaves, gave them the right to vote, passed civil rights legislation.

It was democRATs that owned slaves, formed the KKK, and treated them miserably during the Bull Connor, George Wallace, Lester Maddox, Robert Byrd (all democRAT)bad-old-days. And that it is still RATs "keeping them down" to this very day.

romney picked up no votes yesterday

Yeah, I'll bet he did. Not in that room, but in the black upwardly mobile ranks.

The NAACP heads are just a bunch of RATagandist partisan hacks. Nothing less than Uncle Toms for the RATs.

Because Romney was invited. He went there, and didn't pull any punches.

Their reaction said more than 100's of stump speeches.

“why do we as conservatives and republicans go there?”

Basically because there are two angles to the black vote if you’re a Republican. The first is the obvious - you would love to get their votes. If a Republican gets 30% of their vote, in any contested race with a significant number of blacks voting, it’s game over. Of course Romney won’t get that - which leads to the second angle - which is convincing a sizable (quite large, actually) portion of the white voters that are inclined to support him that he really does care about blacks and will not ignore their needs. He must keep their votes, and they will walk. That is why he went.

I think it was quite clever of Romney to go there. Blacks are not all a monolithic, liberal group. There are likely a number of them who will secretly vote for someone with the courage to go before the NAALCP and speak the truth.
